Question:
I gave Harry a bath this morning and have noticed his has some red marks around his groin. They are a dark red pigment colour. I have tried to take a picture of them but they haven't come out very well.
I also noticed he has got another red mark on his willy, right next to this mark is a pink spot, the spot is quite big. I have pressed on it to see if it caused Harry any pain, and it doesn't. Again this picture hasn't come out very well but hopefully you will be able to see the spot next to the red mark.
These red marks are not spots, when I first saw them I thought it was just speckles of dried on mud. Harry has had dermatitis before and these marks look completley different. The spot on Harry willy is quite hard.
I will see how these marks and the spot looks on Monday morning, if they haven't cleared up I will take him to the vets. But if anyone could suggest what they I would be very grateful.
Thanks Louise

Dogs do sometimes get a rash from urine scald, but the spots look too discrete for that. Could be an allergy or some form of acne or due to the area being hot. The one on his sheath looks quite large, possibly a reaction to a scratch or a foreign body? Are the other spots flat or raised? My boy gets small dark pigment-type markings which seem to come & go in his groin. I am sure others will be along to offer suggestions, but a vet opinion would seem to be the best course of action.

Does he lay in the 'frog position' with the back legs stretched out behind him? How old is he, how often do you bath and in what? Agree urine can cause a burn but it would have to be splash back or does he wet the bed or the floor? Sorry questions and no answers except to agree the vet is the best thing but understand you wanting some idea of the cause is now

Thanks for your replies.
The red marks are flat, they look they little grazes but they are not. Harry is 5 in May. I bathed yesterday and normally do this every 3 - 4 weeks I just used a medicated dog shampoo. I hoped the marks might clear up over night but they haven't. Also the spot on his willy is still there, it's quite hard and has a couple of little black dots in it. He hasn't been sitting or acting any differently than he normally does.

Hi lckerry Hard to say from the pictures, could be many things particularly with Harrys history of tummy problems/possible allergies .If the spots don't go soon I would get the vet to have a look.

OK, have you changed anything, like washing powder, laundry conditioner, floor cleaner, shampoo, food, treats, toys, air freshener or started walking him in a new area? Has he been trimmed lately or has he been scratching or licking? Have you had new floor covering or funiture?
Answers:
I haven't changed his diet or washing powder or anything else. Harry is acting normal, actually he's be really happy over the last couple of weeks probably because he is being walked more often than usual. He hasn't being licking around that area. I didn't even notice these marks until I went to bath him yesterday so I don't know how long they have been there. If they haven't cleared up by tomorrow I will take him to the vets.

Think the vets is the next step as there seems to be nothing obvious, only thing I wouls say is why are you useing medicated shampoo?

My Bullmastiff had these a little while ago and i gently cleaned the skin with diluted Hibiscrub (available from chemists for around £3 a bottle).I cleaned his skin twice a day and they cleared up in less than a week.
