Oh god no...not again, Poor Murphy (Rottweiler)
Question:

After Murphy going lame on his front left elbow (which has ED) just before Xmas (but is now ok) and finally got the call fromt he vet yesterday to say they don't want to x-ray him and will leave it as they think it may have been more of a sprain/twist rather than the ED so that was good news.

Hubby took Murphy & Jesse out for a walk this morning, and came home about 30 mins later (I thought to myself that was a quick walk) and then saw Murphy hobbling in, he is totally lame on his back left leg, not putting it on the ground at all, Hubby said Murphy and Jesse had been paying with a little border terrer and then Murphy went and had a sniff and the next thing Murphy gave out an almight yelp, hubby said he'd never heard anything like it, apparently even other people who were walking came over to see if he was alright, hubby thought at first that maybe Murphy had sood on some glass and had a look but no, it really does seem that Muprhy may have snapped his cruicate ligament , for those of you that don't know Murphy snapped his other cruicate in April last year and then got an infection and was right until end of September 2005, it was a very emotional time for us all, watching Muprhy going through what he did and then with all the xrays

I've spoken to the vet and he too says it's sounds as if its the cruicate but am to rest him and up the Rimadyl and take him to the vets on Monday, if its just a twist he will be much improved by Monday, but I've got a horrible feeling

I remember when they did the other op last year, they said there was a 70% chance the other would go within a year

Poor Murphy, he has had such a cr*p time of it, and he's such a happy dog, he jsut doesn't deserve this

Please can I ask you all to send healing thoughts for my special dude.

Oh no - fingers crossed that it is something minor.
Do you think the troubles he has been through could have made Murph a bit 'soft' when it comes to pain - he remembers the real pain from before and now when he gets a twinge his brain goes into panic mode?
I hope I've explained that as I meant to - I was thinking of my old lurcher who had suffered a broken leg before we had him. He was a total wuss and would scream out if he just got a foot caught on a tussock in a field. Used to make out blood run cold ......... but he was fit and fine in a short time.
Hope resting up will resolve it.
Lots of positive thoughts coming your way

thank you all for your lovely kind words and positivie vibes and I will keep you posted on how he gets on over the next day and at the vets.

DM - I do see what you mean but to be honest apart from the lameness and the initial yelp Murphy hasn't whinced or whined at all, when I've petted him his stump has wagged and he seems in pretty good humour (Rottie style of course ), saying that though the vet and Surgeon have said to me that Rotties are the biggest wusses on the planet when it comes to pain, people always seem them as the big hard type which no doubt they can be when in protective/fearful mode but otherwise they are big softy's.

I'd assume that if it a bad twist/sprain there will be some improvement by Monday if not then no doubt an x-ray will be what they suggest

Thanks you for your thoughts on this DM
