Question:
Bear is constantly trying to get her collar off. She'll use her hind legs to scratch it off constantly. How do I get her to stop this? My current plan is saying
Ah ah ah!!!
But sometimes she keeps on doing it.
Any suggestions?
Answers:
Try the collar for a few moment at a time gradually extending the time, put it on before you play with a toy or before she is fed, don't say no..ignore /distract unwanted behaviour don't draw attention to it

Have you tried putting his collar on just before mealtimes when he is hungry?
Answers:
lol when i pull on the collar he just lets himself get dragged along glaring at me.
meal times aren't really set. he has his food bowl and eats when he wants to, he doesn't eat till he pukes so i leave it out for him. i use the treats for bribe tactics *ie when he was learning to come, sit and stay etc.
i had tried the collar and a treat and the command to come. again he just glares at me. as soon as i take it off he does what he is asked to no problem.
Answers:
Unless your dog has some sort of dietary problem I would stop the free feeding. Mealtimes are an important part of the bonding process, they are something for the dog to look forward to, and the food bowl is a great aid to training Start set meal times. Put the food down, give the dog 10 minutes to eat and if, after this time, he has left any take the bowl up and give nothing at all until the next meal time. It may take a couple of days for him to realize that he has to eat when you want him to eat or else go hungry. Once the feeding routine is established and you know he is hungry for his meal prepare the food, put his collar and lead on and lead him to his bowl.
How do you manage with taking him for walks?
Answers:
i'd feel so guilty if he was hungry!! i know you are right in your advice, i have heard it from others.
when i we go for a walk he just stays with me. if he sees another dog he stays if he is told to and comes back when he is called. i don't know how we managed to get him to do that but he does. we tend to walk where there is no car traffic so that is not a worry. we also have a huge back yard that is fenced and he plays out there too. when we go to the beach he wonders a bit to chase seaguls but comes back when he is called. i can never get too far out of his sight and he will come looking for me even when we are in the house. everything is great till that collar goes on and then my well trained pup plays dead. i haven't really had a situation when he hasn't come back. however in saying that nor do i want to come across one, hence i'd like the leash and collar thing to work.
ps. no dietary problems

As far as the collar is concerned I would put it on in the morning and leave it there, he will not lie on the floor all day and will forget it in a half hour or so. Try to disassociate the putting on of the collar and going for a walk then you will know if it is the collar or the walk that is the problem.
Answers:
Sorry should have said that once he is ignoring the collar, and if you don't give in believe me he will try tying a piece of string to the collar and letting him trail it round the house, when he is ignoring that the try a longer piece and then an old lead. Don’t make a big deal of it just put it on and ignore and get on with what ever you normally do

i bought him a very light weight collar so i will put that one and leave it and see what he does with it. =) i think he thinks the world has come to an end. he loves the walks i am sure it is the collar part.
i will try the food dish thing see if he will figure out when chow time is.
thank and thank you!
