Question:
Hello People...
I am in need of desperate help, my year old SBT goes absolutley crazy whenever anyone comes to our house. She jumps up (nearly touching there heads bearing in mind!) and nearly knocks them over. Now, she doesn't do it with myself or my partner, but goes on a mad one when people arrive! We have tried the whole, crossing your arms... telling her to sit and give her a treat... ignoring her completely! Nothing seems to be working.
We also have the same problem when we go to other peoples houses!
I'm beginning to worry as people are starting to become scared of her (not that she would EVER hurt them!) as they don't know how to take her!
PLEASE HELP!!! x

hi
typical staffy glasgow kisses by the sounds of things !! LOL
my only suggestion would be to have her on a lead when greeting guests and when she stays on the ground giving her a treat etc - however dont think it will happen overnight and will have to be totally worked at to get it in the concrete staffy head !!LOL
Bruno is 4 and still occasionally jumps up to give kisses (normally when they are bedning down with theior mouth open saying hello - so they end up with a wet dog snog !! NOT nice !! LOL )
good luck

Good advice from Dani Put her on a lead. Ask visitors to ignore her. That means ignoring her totally - no speaking to her, no trying to touch her, and absolutely no eye contact. As far as visitors are concerned she is invisible Get her to sit, and only when guests have settled and she has settled allow her to go for a pat. If she starts leaping then back on the lead she goes. It will take time but she will learn that the only way she is going to get what she wants, i.e. be allowed to greet guests, is if she does it politely

Have to agree with all that advice,Zanta doesn't do it to us anymore but when visitors come round they get the full works,a 7mnth old 7 stone newfiexberner is a bit much too take.Although yesterday I got caught out unawares, the person is a dog person so that was lucky, she did as I asked and ignored her she jumped twice and then gave up,came back 5 mins later and stood front paws on the kitchen worktop and gave her some nice kisses and then went away.Think they get it slowly, but the lead thing is good if you know when people are coming.

I find that when the guests are ready to greet the dog (I agree on the settled in first), then make them turn their back if your dog still jumps up.
It shows the dog that the behavior isnt tolerated and it cant lick their face when they´ve done that
Make them turn around again and start over - repeat til the dog understands and do as wanted

I'm going to have to start this with Luna..
She jumps up, when people come.. And its really annoying. She does it with me sometimes aswell..
And then she goes grab a toy and wiggles around people, and jump up again.. But I need to put a leed on her.. and hold her back? and then ask her to sit?
