Question:

Hi All

pulling my hair out tonight with Otis. He is having a really naughty day (doesn't help that he is teething)!

Feel like i have nearly lost my voice because i have shouted at him so much tonight.

The naughtiness isn't really the problem, the real problem that is really concerning me is that everytime i tell him to get in his bed and try and go near him, he tries to bite me!!!!

When i point to his bed he just stands there, so then i try and coax him in and he tries to bite my hand.

What can i do because i don't want to end up with an aggressive pup!!1

hmm, he seems to be testing you. indie used to do this when she was little, i would say it is normal pup behaviour and he needs to be taught that its not acceptable. how do u react when he tries to bite you? if you pull your hand away he might think its a good way to get you to go away if you just go and get him anyway and put him in his bed it should work ok. but dont tap his nose or anything as it will just make it worse.

here is a link to a post i wrote a while back when i had the same problem, hopefully some of the replies will help

Hi Jodie

When Archie's having a naughty moment and tries to nip my hands, I hold him with both hands round his chest (under armpits) with my fingers laced... and facing away from me (sitting down) It's hard to explain this so I hope you get what I mean.

Anyway, he can't reach any part of me to bite like that and he calms down after a minute... only put him down once he is calm, if you put him down while he's struggling he'll learn that he can get his way

Just one thing though.... why are you trying to put him in bed? It might be best to just let him run around and be hyper until he's burned off all the energy... most pups have hyper moments, Archie has at least 2 every day and if he's anywhere near his bed he will go to it, not to sleep, but to fight with it! silly pup.

TJ does the same, if he is having a mad hour, and i try and hold him still he will mouth my hand, i just do the same as you tuti, hold him still and show him its not acceptable to bite and it really helps to calm him down, well as calm as a BC can get

It is normal puppy behaviour but you should stop it now, show him whats acceptable and whats not

Thanks gals xxx

o/h is out and otis is really playing me up- flipping typical. he is always good when ian is about!!

i dont mind him going hyper but tonight it felt like he was going for me properly which scared me a bit.

Tuti - i say go to your bed because his bed is in the kitchen and thats where he goes for time-outs.

god im having a crap night!!

Hello isn't it fun having a puppy.
I think to me it sounds like you are saying one thing and doing another - you tell hime to go to bed he doesn't but then you coax him (in his mind you're playing) I bet you're either clicking your fingers towards the bed to coax him or tapping it to him its playing he's a pup hence he bites your hands he thinks its a game. How old is he now?
I have to say I expect good behaviour from my two when in the house and their bed is never used as time out but if your's is then make sure whatever you tell him he does.

What is he doing that is making you send him for time out?

When my pups were young and going through the worst of their teething I used to find that their behaviour got really bad as well - what I did was have a constant supply of ice cubes and very cold carrots and they would take their frustrations out on that - it really helped me a lot hope your night gets better
