Question:
I have two staffys. jack is 18 months and teagan is about 14 months,
Both are house trained and ask to go outside to go to the loo.
However Teagan will go in the house when we are not in. Even if she left for just half an hour she will wee and poo.
She also does this at night, she is let out before we go to bed and we watch to make sure she goes.
She knows it is wrong but carries on doing it.
We moved house about 6 weeks ago, she used to do it at the old house but not as bad.
Its really getting us down as we don't know what to do. Does anyone have any ideas?

Cassie used to do it now and again, she's just over a year now. We found if we don't lock her in one room and give her the run of the house, she's absolutely as good as gold! We also had a dog flap installed so the kitchen door isn't open in the dead of winter. Works for us but I'm sure some more of the more experienced DW's will be along to give you some advice. It could be the move of house that's throwing them off.

Hi Nat If she only does it when you're out, it might be Separation Anxiety. Are there any other things she does when you are out, chew things up or howl for example?
Put the words Separation anxiety on the search here and you'll come up with a few threads, most of which are probably about my dog Archie That will help you figure it out.
Also do a search for it on Google and read a few articles, then you can figure out whether it is SA or not.

Midge was already housetrained when I bought her home, but when I had Jasper, who was not housetrained, a year later, Midge forgot her training and they both started to poo in the kitchen at night.
This is probably going to sound really silly but I'd make the dog sit next to the poo and say 'what have you done, that's dirty' etc. Not shouting but in a firm voice. This worked really well for me. On days when there was no poo I'd praise them and give them a treat.
Only problem was when there was only 1 poo. Then I'd get them side by side and tell them both off.
My family think I'm mad for talking to my dogs like this, but to me they're almost human!

Do you tell her off when you come home and find she has messed?

Unfortunately, your dog probably had no idea what you were telling him off for, as once they have done something, they have no recollection of it.
Unless you catch them 'in the act' do not tell them off, just ignore it.
People say there dog looks guilty. Your dog cannot look guilty, and doesn't know what guilt is!
They just know you are feeling angry about something, and react to that, and know they will get attention.

Agree Hevvur (sorry pf!)
Everything I've ever read about SA (and that's a LOT! lol ) has said,,,,, don't tell them off when you get back.

Knew you would think I was bonkers but it worked for me so I think they must understand! If a dog has such a poor memory how come mine can remember where they caught their last rabbit?
Sorry Hevvur I know you are probably more experienced than me but I have to disagree with you.
Answers:
Also agreed, if you don't catch them straight away, they have no idea what they're being told off for.

Nat i found a good idea for that (well it worked for me or my dogs) i cut a piece of grass carpet in a small square and put this on the terrace ( the terrace door was open most of the time when she was alone in the apartment) she never done it in the room always went out on this piece of green carpet when the terrace door was closed i put it in the bathroom and it worked just the same there it was perfect had no problem just had to wash it every day ( this is no joke )perfectly true
