Blood In Stool - possible causes?
Question:

Please Help!!!
Today when i got up this morning @ 8.30 noticed one of my dogs had some blood in their stool, so ive watched them all morning and Noticed it has came from spike my 10 month old staffy.
I called the vet right away and they told me to keep am eye on him and take him off food for 24 hours, and i have to take him to the vets tomorro.
All he has done now is sleep, he is never like this he is always jumping about, but i have been doing up the house and there has been little bits of wood lay ing about, maybe its my blame and he has eaten a bit of the wood??? i just don`t know. I feel terrible!!!!!!
Does anyone have any idea`s on what it might be? All help more than welcome.
Thanks
Gordon.

Aww hope Spike is okay I wouldn't worry too much at this stage it could be anything. Just watch him next time and have a look whether there is anymore. Your vet doesn't sound too concerned about it, so stop worrying man

Hi,

from my experience blood on top of stool is not as serious. Maybe he has eaten a bone which gave him problems with the passage of feces.

Hi spike the staffy The cause of the problem could be a number of things, something eaten, tummy bug, as the vet says keep an eye on Spike and if there is further bleeding in any amounts/he looks in pain (walking 'tucked up' or restless pacing), his gums become white instead of pink get back to the vet.

For now I would keep him warm and quiet, starve for a while then if all is well feed boiled rice and white fish to give his tummy chance to recover.

Hope Spike is better soon

If it looks like blood and it is on the surface of the poo, don’t worry it is probably nothing more than a small blood vessel that has leaked, if this continues for 2 or 3 days then their may be something stuck in the bowl and then vet attention will be needed. If the poo looks tarry and sticky then immediate vet attention it may be required

Ive been keeping a good eye on him, but he hasnt changed he is still his bouncing self, running about the garden with skye, all seems fine, but ive still got an appointment with the vet tomorro, would rather make sure he is checked over.

Hi
I had the same problem with my BC. I rushed her into the vets on a Sunday morning panicking as she had quite alot of blood in her stool.
It turned out to be Colitis.
So don't worry.
Hope is is better soon.
