Question:
Hey Karen or others.....Mr. conservative travel here.....
Any advice on the downtown public transportation reliability. The hotel for the conference is extrememly high and our group is looking at 4 rooms. I think we can get Airport Hyatt for about 1/3 of the price. Just wondering about that commute. I went to the MBTA website and it looks ok, just trying to get some personal advice.
I do this stuff all the time in Chicago, just wondered how the trains are.
Thanks in advance.
Brad
Actually Brad, the last time I was in Boston the public transportation system seemed to be pretty good. I'd put them on par with Chicago public transportation.
Hi Brad,
Karen can't make our get together on Saturday because she's away this week, so I'll respond on her behalf. (Hopefully, one of our other New England members will chime in.) The good news is that Boston has an excellent public transportation system. The bad new is the the "T" (the subway) stops running shortly after midnight. The Blue line has a station at the airport. The new Silver Line (which is being built in phases as part of "the Big Dig") is supposed to be extended as far as the airport some time this year. I'm not sure if the airport segment will be in service by August. Here's a link to some additional information about the "T": http://www.mbta.com/traveling_t/schedules_subway.asp.
Mike
Thank you Mike for the link, I think we got everything figured out already however. I think it is still a good link for someone from boston to explain parking and public trans. From what I understand, parking at the host hotel is $35.00 per night. Any advise on the public trans is ok, I think we are all setup on the hotels.
Brad
Hey Brad maybe cabs would be cheaper than renting a car...just a thought.....and of course public transportation too
I think it is still a good link for someone from boston to explain parking and public trans I know Boston and I the best advice that I can give you is: Don't even THINK about driving in Boston. Boston = traffic and $$$ for parking. You're better off on the "T". Taxis are also an option. (Although repeat after me ... Taxis are evil and the "T" is our friend. Unless it's after midnight, of couse. ;) )

Can anyone give me info on this meeting in Boston?
Hey!!!... It is the annual NPF conference which is being held in Boston this summer from August 5-7... its a big conference with speakers, workshops, booths, lots of new p people to meet, and tonnes of fun!! You can get more info about it here:
I'm with Carol...needing more information on how people go about the Boston convention. I HAVE been to Boston before, but admittedly it's been quite some time...from what I remember the best way to get around town is walking or taking the "T". When I was there we rented a car, but we hardly used it...it wasn't really worth it. So if that helps...^-~ I'm going to be going alone, and am coming from Seattle...any suggestions anybody?
