First, I want to declare that moderating a group is VERY HARD because of the subjective nature of censoring some posts. NOT THAT I AM DEFENDING ANYONE. It just is...
That said, moderators should always respond swiftly to any questions regarding a censored message. Fair or unfair, it shows responsiveness and openness. Nitegale, for that alone, you SHOULD be upset.
As far as the other P word (politics), this should NOT be a political forum, because it will cause antagonism. PERIOD. I would be EXTREMELY rigid on this one.
At the same time, if it is true that the NPF is making alliances with big pharma (again, not surprised), it is truly jeopardizing its credibility with its members. That is the reason I separated from the NPF; went to a so-called psoriasis seminar that ended up being a 2 hour infomercial for a big pharma product.
Is the NPF a vehicle for big pharma? IMHO, of course it is. However, its membership proves of value to me personally. And that's why I am here.
In the hope THIS message does not get censored...
Best,
Steve

Hi Steve,
You make very valid points and I agree with much of what you said with one exception. The word politics. This website is laced with politics form the NPF its self. Form attending and urging people to come to Washington for Capital Hill Day, to letter writing campaigns to congrees for addition funding for the NIH (National Institue of Heath), to lobbying the FDA for approval off new drugs. Politics is inter woven throughout the thread. Can you bar deusions on politics and still allow post for Capital Hill Day etc. I think not.

Thank you for an objective view on this, Steve. This is the issue that I also have with the NPF right now. My posts were also censored with no notification from them, and no response to my pm's to the moderators. This has also happenned to several other members that I am aware of.
I realize that resolving this issue takes some time, but the courtesy of an individual response to our pm's would go a long way. After all, we took the time to voice our concerns, and deserve no less from the NPF.

Fair enough, Mitch. However, I will artfully dodge the political discussions. One thing we do concur; if the NPF opens the door on the political front, it is open season.
Having the NPF lobby the FDA for big pharma drugs approval is a very VERY
dangerous/touchy subject. IMHO, the NPF should recommend treatments and technologies and only after a review of clinical trial results has proven it worthwhile. NEVER should they recommend a particular product. That is LOBBYING. Plain and simple. And big pharma has enough money to do that without the NPF's help.
My question is: Is the NPF lobbying or providing technical recommendations on potentially beneficial treatments with no monetary bias? Not that tuned into that side of the organization.
I have my tin foil hat on today.
Steven
P.S. See, no controversy ;)

All~
Generally, I like to deal with these issues on a one-to-one basis, but since you are all curious, I'm happy to respond publicly.
Yesterday, I did send nitegale a PM letting her know why her post was originally pulled. It wasn't pulled because of what she said, but because of how others decided to distort the thread and turn it into name-calling, no-holds-barred fighting session.
We were happy to reinstate her original thread, which we did. If you would like to go and respond to it, it's here:

During the first few days of this message board issue, we were not able to keep up with letting each individual know why we were pulling their posts. Now we are able to get back on track, and we apologize to anyone that feels they did not get a proper response.
If you have additional questions about these issues, please contact me directly at 800.723.9166, ext. 386. I'll be glad to help in any way I can.
Sincerely,
