Drummer Boy
Come they told me, pa rum pum pum pum
A new born King to see, pa rum pum pum pum
Our finest gifts we bring, pa rum pum pum pum
To lay before the King, pa rum pum pum pum,
rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum,
So, to honor Him, pa rum pum pum pum,
When we come.
Little Baby, pa rum pum pum pum
I am a poor boy too, pa rum pum pum pum
I have no gift to bring, pa rum pum pum pum
That's fit to give the King, pa rum pum pum pum
rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum,
Shall I play for you, pa rum pum pum pum,
On my drum?
Mary Nodded, pa rum pum pum pum,
The ox and lamb kept time, pa rum pum pum pum
I played my drum for Him, pa rum pum pum pum
I play me best for Him, pa rum pum pum pum,
rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum
Then He smiled at me, pa rum pum pum pum

I know you have all labeled this with songs...
My favorite is Winter Wonderland...
But I decided to add a tradition that has been passed down for generations in my family. Every Christmas Eve you get to open one gift and that gift is new Jammies. So when you wake up in the morning all your Christmas Photos are in your new Jammies. So every year I get the girls new Jammies that they open on Christmas Eve. It is so much fun picking them out. I think my parents had the same kind of fun. 2 years ago after Jessie was diagnosed (Nov 14) I had a hard time finding Jammies for her, of course, I was this crazy mom who had a daughter that was 95% covered with P. My father knew exactly what I needed. One Christmas Eve when I was 8 my father was stuck at an airport because of a big Blizzard. So we did not get our Jammies on Christmas Eve...Well that Christmas 2 years ago, my father pulled out the Silk Jammies and Robe that he bought me for that Christmas and gave them to Jessie. It was a great gift for a beautiful girl. I am continuing this tradition and hope my girls do someday.

Marielle, we do the same thing [for my kids, of course]. and my husband and i still wear our LL Bean Red Night Shirts that we got the first year we were married. They're 20 years old!!! I think it's time we put them to rest though because they're getting quite tattered.
Anyway, a couple years ago we started a secret santa game within our family. we pick a name out of a hat and then have to perform random acts of kindness during the month [not only to that person but to other members just to throw them off] and then purchase or make an ornament for that person that depicts their hobby, sport or some sort of interest. Each year when we decorate the tree, it brings back so many memories because i keep those ornaments in a special box with the to/from written on it from year to year. :D

Hello everyone!! Well my family tradition is a little different, lol. Every year since I was about 10 (now 20) my parents would put names of Christmas things on the presents instead of our names ex: To:Rudolph From:Santa. They do this so we dont know who's presents are whos, and it makes our christmas opening time last a lot longer, and in my family we open one present at a time because we dont want the present opening to be over in 10 minutes. Its so funny because we usually have to take an intermission because it takes so long. It usually lasts between 4-6 hours. Isnt that nuts! :)

When my boys were young we always made cookies for Santa and left some out with milk or tea. We also put out carrots out on the front porch for the reindeer. After they went to sleep I would sneak outside and make hoof prints in the snow & put teeth marks in a half eaten carrot. Then I would enjoy Santa's snack and in an undistinguishable handwriting from mine, write a letter to the boys from Santa telling them all the good things they did that year to deserve all the gifts that were left for them.
When the oldest first heard the rumor that there might not be a Santa I explained to him that Santa only came to those who believe in him. When you stop believing your parents have to take over. And then I added that it was always best to believe in Santa as long as possible because moms & dads can't afford to bring as much as Santa. I got a bit more mileage out of the Santa thing with that line!!!
When I was young we just hoped that my father would come home sober so that the Christmas tree wouldn't get thrown out the door. I know that sounds sad but it was true. We always got a few nice toys, but to make the gift pile stretch my mom would give us socks, undies, slips, mittens, etc. And our stockings had little items such as pencils, cards, crayons and were also padded with fruit, nuts & pennies to make them full. My youngest sister and I were only 2 1/2 years apart so we were dressed alike for Christmas & Easter. We always went downtown (no real Malls back then) and it was a tradition that my grandmother bought us patent leather shoes from an old store named Miller & Peck's. No matter how cold or snowy it was we insisted on wearing our patent leather shoes with little white lace trimmed socks to church on Christmas Day.
Wow, the more I type, the more I remember. I can even remember some of the outfits. And my mom always trimmed our bangs the night before so that we would look nice for Christmas pictures. Either we moved a lot or she was a very poor stylist because our bangs in nearly all our old photos are as crooked as hell. LOL
XOXO

What a fun thread!
We have lots of traditions in my family but my favorite is a rather recent addition. I am the youngest in my family and since I've been about 16 maybe (I'm almost 21 now) we decided that we all have to get up early every other day, why not sleep in on Christmas morning? So instead of getting up in the morning, at least until one of us has kids to get up with on Christmas morning, we get together with the one side of the family on Christmas Eve, have dinner and all that, presents, and then we go to Midnight Mass at church. We go home from there and then we sit around and open presents until every last one is opened, which usually ends up around 4am. We do one at a time too so it really stretches out over a long time! It's really hard to get tired on Christmas Eve with presents and all that, so it's not a big deal for everyone to stay up. My brother and his wife live an hour + away and my sister lives about 40 minutes away so its a good chance for us all to catch up too. Then in the morning nobody has to get up until they feel like it! It's definitely been the best way to do it :)

I grew up poor. I was the second of six kids in a family that stressed the meaning of Christ in Christmas. We were taught at a very early age that this was not a day for getting, but a day to celebrate the birth of our Savior. We always had an Advent calendar and each child took turns opening the Window for the days before Christmas. We worked on paper chains and strung popcorn and cranberries to decorate the tree and made other ornaments according to our age and ability. We sang carols and made cookies and candies. Christmas eve we made the Baby Jesus a birthday cake. Mom made each of us a new pair of Pajamas that we got to open and put on after Midnight services at Church. There was always something from Santa in the morning. We had Daddys old sox with a tangerine in the toe and filled with nuts and candy and ALWAYS a new toothbrush. The Boys got a new little car or truck and the girls got a little baby doll or new home made clothes for and old favorite doll. There was so much love in my family and still is. I wish my own kids had the kind of memories I do. Instead they grew up in split families spending Christmas with non custodial parents and being over indulged by parents trying to out-do eachother.

When my kids were little, I taped lollipops(1 red,1 green together) to the frig in shape of a Christmas tree. They could have 1 a day until the last one(top) was gone it was the night for Santa. We also watched all the TV shows for kids together.
When I was growing up we always had oyster stew on Christmas Eve. Does anyone know why? I think it was a Dutch thing but I'm not sure. We did not hang a stocking, we sat chairs in a semi-circle and each child sat their shoes under a chair. Did any of you do that?
Now, it's just the two of us and we do as little as possible. We are thinking of not putting up a tree and just going to Florida and doing some sight seeing. I guess we are lazy or tired of it all. It's not any fun without our kids around. :(
