Question:
Many people have question the use of stem cell research as morally wrong. Here is a hypothetical question. If a cure was found for psoriasis or psoriathic arthritist would you use the cure despite how it was descovered?
YES, ABSOLUTELY, and I wouldn't think twice about it.....
The answer is yes, but the hypothetical has nothing to do with the morality issue. You see the morality issue is only related to certain ways the stem cells are obtained, but there are other ways to obtain stem cells that no one would have a problem with.
The "morally wrong" stem cells are embryonic stem cells that come from aborted fetuses, but if the stem cells came from a donated umbylical cord then it would be fine. So the answer is yes because there are other methods of getting the stem cells.
Mitch,
You're question paints a broad swath. WHile I would like to know the specifics of a "medical breakthru", in general I would not have an issue with using a treatment if it was created via ethical means.
Of course, the variable will be what people consider ethical.
F.M.
Personally, I wouldn't care how they got the stem cells as long as it worked. When I had my second child, I donated his umbilical cord for stem cell research just for this reason.
Maybe I should ammend the question.
For the purpose of this question all research and iformation derived from that research was gather in medically excepted ethical practices from embtyotic stem cell research.
Weather that research was done here in the USA or abroad. Would you take the cure?
That narrows it down some.
I would not have an issue with it myself Of course, this is an issue which will probably polarize people one way or the other.
F.M.
YES, ABSOLUTELY, and I wouldn't think twice about it.....
Ditto for me too...bring it on.......stem cell research is the same way organ donation used to be, they thought it was morally wrong to decimate a body after death. Let's do it. I need a cure soon, if the itch doesnt get to me first.
"YES, ABSOLUTELY, and I wouldn't think twice about it....."
Ditto.
hang the morals....when it comes to P, diabetes, MS, heart disease...etc!
anyway I don 't see it as a moral issue....just a humane one
GOD IS ALIVE AND WELL. HE KNOWS WHAT GOING ON IN THE WORLD.
HE IS CONCERNED. HE JUST DOSEN'T WANT TO GET INVOLVED!
I like my version better ;) :p :D
GOD IS ALIVE AND WELL. SHE KNOWS WHAT IS GOING ON IN THE WORLD.
SHE IS CONCERNED. SHE JUST DOSEN'T WANT TO GET INVOLVED! YET!
Actually Sally the quote is "God is alive and well in Mexico City, He knows what is going on in the world, he is concern he just dosen't want to get involve."
By the way I for one would take a care from where ever it was derived from as long as it was done ethically.
Mitch
I wouldn't care at all. Hopefully they come up with something really soon so people don't have to suffer any more
If it can cure this disease or any other disease I am all for it...I don't care about ethics, whatever needs to be done do it...
We have been studying the issues surrounding stem cell research at school lately, and because i attend a Christian school, we have, of course, been looking at it from a Christian point of view.
I personally think (maybe its cuz of the way ive been taught, buttt... ) that it is wrong. It is as wrong as abortion is....
BLARGH im getting kicked off the comp, but ill be back in l8er to tell you more about why i think this^^

Glad you answer the question.
.................... the hypothetical was covered nicely - 10/21/04 in Barry 75's thread - great exchanges, until creakysue said I was crazy or cookoo or something(hysterically funny I might add!). Got your attention, didn't I? Still not locked down! Missed that one DEB. Anybody checked STEM stock lately? Private sector basically ran up the white flag - except Dr. Frankenstein of course. You know the guy running einna's "FARM". Need an application breakthrough somewhere else, unless of course you start letting these fertilized eggs, embryos, fetuses grow and then ........ that ground covered in Barry 75's thread also. Do not have to answer the question - we'll all be in the grave a long time before stem cells help anyone with anything - why do you think the expansion of the "to be used" is being pushed? Let me guess, you won't wear fur, but you'll grow a baby - kill it - to cure your P/PA? And creakysue said I was crazy! What a laugher. Here's a question. Should we take stem cell $ and put it into String Theory research? Then we could all move to the parallel universe where P/PA does not exist. Those pesky "scientists" just can't seem to get those two sub sub sub atomic particulates to crash head on! Swiss, working real hard on this one too. Where are our pesky scientists when we need them?

einna, there's a call out for fertilizer down on the farm - girls?
Robi My Love,
Have you noticed the drop in fertilizer stock? Over saturation of the supply.
Like a hammmer dude.
XOXOXO
Scientifically I know about as much about stem cells as I do about the genetic basis of psoriasis. Basically I know absolutely nothing other than what I have heard in the media. I will tell you this, that making a choice based upon what the media says is really tough. A cure for psoriasis will be welcomed, I cannot believe that anyone would not welcome it nor use it if it was proven safe. I guess to some extent we need to trust our scientists to do the "correct" and "ethical" thing. If the issue becomes significant enough to warrant a decision, the people in this country or those that represent us will ultimately decide. We need to put a little trust in our leadership and have more faith in our doctors, universitys and scientists.
Please, someone explain to me why Robi mentions me in every single post he makes? LOL! I will see what I can do about the lock Robi! Pouvez-vous m'indiquer le chemin pour aller a la municipalite
