My brother, who drives a towtruck in So Cal, was in a serious accident early Sunday morning. He went over an embankment, through a chain link fence, and to the bottom of a concrete flood control channel. The truck was totalled.
But someone was looking over him. Although he can't remember if he had a seatbelt on or not, and the airbag never deployed, he went straight down and landed right side up (although very hard!) After finding himself unable to open the door, he crawled out the rear window, up the ladder of the side of the channel, and up the embankment to the road. He then went to the callbox to call for help. He can't recall if he blacked out in between or not, but he managed to get there.
When the highway patrol got there, he said they kept looking at him really funny, and asking if he was ok. He said he thought he was. They then had him look in the mirror of the patrol car.....he was covered with cuts and bruises, and had blood all over! He thought it was just dirt from his climb out. I think that's probably when he lost it.
He was taken to the hospital, given an MRI, had his knee x-rayed for serious damage, and all checked out ok except for a concussion and a number of cuts and bruises. It was so good to hear his voice tonight, even though I know he will be in extreme pain tomorrow. At least he is alive to feel it.
Everyone, please take a moment to tell those you love how much you love them, and say a little word of thanks to whoever watches over us that my brother's time here just wasn't up yet. No matter how bad our problems seem, never forget that something tragic could happen at any moment to change your life completely. This really put my life in perspective today.

Hey Kim glad you finally got a chance to talk to him yesterday. When we chatted last night you only knew he was in an accident and that he was ok but hadn't heard his voice.
Im glad everything appears to be ok. Like his sister he seams to have a hard head. Payers and thoughts are with you.

I'm happy to hear that your brother is doing well and that you were able to speak to him. I'm glad that he was being looked after. Sometimes I think, we get sent a wake up call just to remind us of how precious life and our love ones are.

Oh Kim, What a trip your brother had going over an embankment, through a chain link fence & ended up at the bottom of a concrete flood control channel; in a way having a concussion through all this could be a blessing as if he didn't, he would have been scared out of his wits which wouldn't help matters. I'm glad that that's all he got. He definitely had an angel looking out for him.

Thanks so much for all your kind thoughts. I talked to my brother again tonight, and he sounds good. The towtruck, however, met its maker.
Vehicles can be replaced, brothers can't....:)
