Question:
there was a report here that ivan did more damage then any storm in 50 years including camille audry and betsy ekkkk.have several friends down in the gulf shores area working on clean up and they are telling me its a major mess . we here in la. lost quite a few islands. ive been doing some work with the dredge co.s here there gearing up for years of beach restoration. was wondering how some of the other people on here are doing and how there areas are managing . personally im dealing now with a few inches of mud that is starting to dry a bit atleast i can get my cars home now.

The latest down here in S. FL. is:
There's a guy is Port Salerno (very near where both Frances and Jeanne came in) that was reimbursed by FEMA for his $800 generator that he had to buy. Then for his home repairs, which you could imagine were much more expensive, he received a check from FEMA for 58 CENTS!!! :eek: Now, I haven't heard any follow ups on it as to whether or not it was a mistake, but to think that you can get money for a generator and not for home repairs, unbelievable.
The other, of course, is the big scandal in Miami-Dade county. Apparently 10's of millions of dollars were given to the county for residents to repair damage from the hurricanes. Maybe KKellogg and ChaimFL can shed more light on this, but my mom lives much further north than Miami and didn't even lose power. People are enraged because they can't imagine that there's enough damage in Miami-Dade to warrant such astronomical amounts of money. And to add to it, there's not enough money going to the counties who really had the most extensive damage.
Such drama!!!
Clean up, etc. has pretty much been completed down here. There are still roofs being repaired and limbs being hauled away, but things are back to normal here. If there is such a thing as normal!!! :rolleyes:
