I know there are the doggy and kitty threads for those of us with dog and cat pictures to post, but what about those of us that don't have those pets? I figured we needed a place to post all those other animals people might have. Horses, birds, fish, reptiles, bunnies, hampsters, ferrets (my pet of choice :D), or whatever!! So post your pet people! Whatever it may be. -Taryn-
P.S. I have attached a picture of one of my babies. This is Azriel after she found an open bag of Cheetos at my friend's house. You can see the orange on her nose and fur if you look closely.
Hi Roxy,
I saw the doggie and kitty threads, and was thinking of posting on them, as I will, but I was going to start my own "POST A FISHTANK" aquarium thread. I used to work in pet stores, and I love fish. They are so relaxing, and aquariums are so beautiful and can be so artistic. I'm going to post ASAP, My tank is awesome! Although I only have one fish - he's a jack dempsey (aggressive) and he's killed all his buddies. I'm thinking of trading him in and going for some less aggressive fish like tetras or semi- aggressive barbs and such. Everybody post their aquariums! I want to see! Oh, and if you need advice, talk to me - I'm a freshwater fish master and have dealt with saltwater, and all sorts of critters. Roxy, how do you stand the smell of thier cage? Those ferrets know, as soon as you finish cleaning the cage they go #2 right in the corner - the cage is forever stinky. god bless you for dealing with it. (I wouldn't) Andy
Aaaaahhhh Roxy, she's a little cutie
I love this thread!!!
1 Attachment(s) We need more critters people! I know that you guys have to have pets other than cats and dogs. I have a hermit crab (I had two but I found one dead just this morning :() I have three betta fish, all in separate bowls of course. I have a fan talied tetra in a five gallon tank (all the other fish slowly died off and this is the only one I have left). I have the three ferrets (Andy: as long as you clean out the litter box at least every other day it doesn't smell). And I have my favorite pet, my husband John. :D Te, he, he.....But seriously people lets get some other critters on here. -Taryn-
Here's Azriel's first bath. :)
1 Attachment(s) Here's a fish tank for you.
30 gallon long standard, custom ordered in walnut trim. Double bio wheel emperor filter, submersible heater, full spectrum lighting, custom made stone backround with green rock, slate and african purple. 2 sizes of creek gravel, genuine driftwood, stones, and plastic plants (real ones are impossible without a Co2 setup and huge lights - I tried it once, it's great if you love algea!)
1 Attachment(s) Here's Jhonny!
sorry, couldn't resist the Shining reference for this little psycho killer. Jack is all alone in his tank because he murdered all his tankmates. Now he's in solitary confinement. Ha Ha! I have a small pond with large comet goldfish too, Maybe I'll post it soon.
This is Burrito. We call him "Birdzilla", He's a Goffins Cockatoo. He belonged to my Neice and was pulling his feathers out because he was stressed. He is happier now and growing new feathers.
He is a lot of fun and keeps us entertained.
I also raise finches. The picture is not mine, but this is the type of finch I raise. They are Lady Gouldian Finches, and My aviary is called "Over The Rainbow"
Nice fish LoveHandle. My brother had a 50 gallon tank when I was growing up. He had all sorts of freshwater fish. We had an Oscar once. He picked on all the other fish so we had to get rid of him. The coolest fish we had was a fire eel. She ate worms which was very neat. She was worth at least $100. She just died last year. She was probably about 13 years old. My parents gave the tank to my neice last year and some of my brother's fish are still alive and kicking after all these years (my brother died over ten years ago and he had that tank or a few years before he died). Anywho, I love the birds LottieBay. They are so bright and cheerful. And the big one is gorgeous. Does he talk? Keep those critters coming everyone! -Taryn-
Hey Roxy,
Thanks - Those fire eels are cool! I remember they were hardy, but only liked the live blackworms and tubifex. (folks, if you buy worms make sure thier alive and in clean water - they can be dangerous to your fishes health if not clean) Hey get a photo of the 50 gallon if you can! love to see it. So Sorry to hear about your brother's passing.
Hey, beautiful finch photo Lottie Bay- what a colorful display! we never had those kinds of finches! Nice cockatoo, love the name!- Burrito! just watch your earings and jewelry! I once had one pull the winding crown right out of my watch! he also bent a customer's wide gold serpentine necklace in half! Such sweet birds though.
Yes Burrito talks ...............and screams! mosty he says "Whatcha Doin"?" "What are you doing?" "pretty bird" "pretty dirty bird" and a long drawn out steam of jibberish that always ends in "BIRD." I'm sure what he says is meaningful to him, since he always says it the same way, but we can't figure out what it ts. he mutters a lot of stuff we can't understand.
He wolf whistles several different ways and whines like a puppy.
He can untie any knot.......... Can easily solve a number of puzzels, and Knows how to let himself out of his cage if it's not securely locked. He throws tantrums if he doesn't get his own way. It's like having a smart Two year old kid who will never get any older
I don't know how to put pics on here but we have I think it's 55 gallon fish tank. We have 2 oscars, and 2 pacus about the size of your jack dempsey. We also have a shark and an algae eater fish. I'd love to have a jack dempsey but it was hard enough for me to spend $10 each on the oscars let alone $30 for the jack dempsey. I'm just scared I'd buy it and it would die two days later, that would really tick me off. Stephanie
Hey Stephanie, I'd mail my fish to you for free, but I don't think he'd make the trip to Ind. Ha Ha! Yeah, buying fish is a risk, but if you acclimate them properly, they aren't sick and nobody kills them, your OK. This guy kills everything, so I give up with aggressives. about the photos - scan print, or download pic from your digital camera, then downsize with your photo program until it only measures 50k bytes. Andy;)
Bump!
I just got a turtle this weekend for my fish tank. It's pretty big, I've been wanting one forever!
Oh boy,
I hope you mean turtle tank - or a tank set up for turtles, they can't live in a fish tank with just a cork floating thing. they need a gradual grade to climb out of the water, poop alot and clog the filter - get ready to do constant water changes. Also, they need a heater - maybe not in the summer, but they are cold blooded, and if the temp drops too low, they won't eat because they're going into hibernation mode. water has to be 75 degrees. Also, he might not eat right off anyway, because of stress. If he doesn't eat pellets - try live rosy reds or tuffies. I've had just about every pet imaginable over the years - and turtles were a favorite! I sure miss vlad the impaler (he was a painted turtle) He got to be too much work, so I gave him to a friend with a pond.
If you are curious about something with your turtle, please let me know. I'd be glad to help. Yah, Dracul.
Andy.
1 Attachment(s) We need to bump this baby back up. I know more of you have pets out there. Come on and post them. We need a little variety here. Cats and dogs are great, but they make up such a small amount of the vast species of animals out there. Keep those pets coming!! -Taryn-
Here's another one of my ferrets. This is General Disarray. We dressed him up a little for X-mas. This little Santa wine bottle outfit just happened to be ferret sized. What luck!
Taryn,
When I worked in pet stores, people would come in looking for sweaters for thier little cat sized dogs, and I would run in horror. Exuse me, can you help me? I'm looking for a sweater for fido - - I think he's an extra small... do you have the blabla in that size? OOOOOHHH god! Imagine getting stuck helping that customer for an hour. Pets were not meant to wear clothes. But that ferret is the most hilarious thing I've ever seen! You should market that wine bottle cover! people would buy it for thier ferrets! on second thought, pity the poor pet store clerks.
Anyhow, I agree! bump up this pet party - I want to see your tarantulas, rats and aligators! Crackie mate! Andy.
Those pets are so cute!!!
I want to have one!!!
Well, I have my beautiful siamese cat .
Enough.
Oh My God , You can't imagine , how demanding he is.
Well, I work 56 hours a week.
He stays alone 56 hours a week also .
Imagine when I arrive.
I remember I was talking to a lady , I said , I like to come home
and see two little eyes looking at me - besides plants (which I don't think is the same).
She was so jealous of me , and said :
Well. I have a fish !!!!! - Does it work?
It was so cute !
We laughed...
See you
Vini
This is a Bachino, or "Owl" finch. I have two pairs of them among many other varieties of finches
Cordon Bleu finch
Cuban Melodious finch
Margaret:
Your finches are so beautiful! Are any of these your birds, or do you raise these types? My grandmother used to have a cage full of more common finches, and I always loved hearing their little peeps and twitters.....very soothing....
Taryn:
You need to market that pic of General Disarray (love the name!) for Christmas cards! :p He is just too cute!!
I really need to get a shot of my bunny on here. Will try to work on it this week.....and maybe my daughter's hamster on a good hair day....oops!...he doesn't have any! :D
Kim
