Question:
Someone had to post this sooner or later. :) I'd like to dedicate this thread to the 17 year cicada. How many people here are awaiting their arrival? What part of the country are you in? Do you have any stories about cicadas? What about recipies? Here in Cincinnati the experts are predicting they should start to come out this weekend if the weather stays warm enough. If you don't know what a cicada is check out this site:

Check this out, you can even book a cicada get away:

I personally have been doing my part to educate all the cicada virgins I know. (cicada virgins are people who have never had the pleasure of living through a cicada invasion). Me telling horror stories....never.... :D
Oh happy day, oh happy day!!!
Have you ever seen anything so ugly? Kinda looks like my hubby!
Last time they came one actually ate my dog! LOL!
Well good morning!!Now I need to remember to not eat before
I read SOME post's!!!
I was shocked to hear people eat these insects that come up from the ground and makes a beautiful sound on a hot summer
night, and then die and leave their dry shell behind for us Grand
Parents to scare our Grand children with!!!
I did some reserch myself...what an amazing discoveryLOL!!!
For anyone on the Low Carb Diet this will make you Happy. It
appears to be very Low carb and high in protien, hmm? Can we market this?!!!
The web site offers a lot info on these no carb, high protien, and
jamed packed with vitamins and Im sure they even have recipes
for them. My question is will they rid our bodies of P? If they would I would be sure to try one!!!

Excuse me while I go and throw up (the technicolor yawn)!
.............Dogs love to eat them. Lots of protien but problems digesting exoskeletons. Use caution leaving dog in the yard for extended periods. Surgery is the only cure for over indulging in BIG MUD FENCE UGLY BUGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D
And I thought the florida cock roach was bad.....that's an ugly critter to have around.
I don't think we get those down here...if we do I have thankfully never come across it.
It has been thirty years since I lived in the midwest. I'm going to the Chicago "burbs" for my neice's wedding next week and I'll be there to hear the cicadas! OH JOY! ......... Comes to mind my ex ........screaming out the window toward our pond at the spring peepers one dark night ............." SHUT UP, FROGS!!!!" LOL

I don't know if they are 7 year or 17 year, but we get um about every 3-4 years. They seem to be a lot bigger than they look in that picture.
I remember back a few years ago what it was like to mow the lawn when they were in full swing. Between them cooking under to mower and the mower shredding them into millions of tiny pieces, it was just loads of fun! (Barf!)
Wait a sec here.....beautiful sound?? When they come back for the 17 year reunion there are millions of them for weeks and they never shut up!!!
It is horriblle !!!!!! You cannot even sleep at night it is so loud!
Yippee.....the experts say all we need is a little rain and the cicadas should start coming out. I'm going out and turn the sprinkler on to see if I can coax them out :D
OMG I almost forgot this! My oldest was a kindergartner when we last had our "swarm"...
Our neighbor who loved my daughter dearly but loved to tease her said "Hey Amy when your bus comes you will see your bus driver is a big old Locust"!!! It was funny but not to little Amy who may be traumatised to this day! LOL!!!!
They've been sighted in Baltimore! Here's a link to an article from The Baltimore Sun: http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/he...-home-headlines.
A few have made their appearance here in Cincy. I can't wait till they all come out. I'm having way too much fun scaring the cicada virgins I know. Telling the horror stories like you won't be able to see the sun for 6 weeks cause the sky will be blackened from all the cicadas. I told one friend that she should wear her hair straight after they emerge cause they'll fly in her hair and lay their eggs. (She bought a hat) LOLOLOL Walgreens is selling giant fly swatters, they're like 6 inches square. It was supposed to be a joke item. I told one couple to make sure to buy a couple of them so when they walk their dog they can swat the cicadas before they land on their dog. If enough cicadas land on their dog at the same time they can actually fly off carrying the pooch. (the dog only weighs 12 pounds). I am going to be in so much trouble when these people find out the darn things don't do anything except make a lot of noise. And to think I have to wait another 17 years so I can do it all over again....
LMAO Cicada Virgins!!!!!!!!!!!!
BOY AM I GLAD I LIVE IN THE NORTH WEST NOW, AS I DON'T BELIEVE THEY'LL COME HERE. THANK GOODNESS........
I'm screamish to critters like that. Eeeeeewwww
