Question:
Note from the Psoriasis Foundation Member Services Coordinator:
Recently, our message board server has been overloaded and moving very slowly. After some research, it appears that part of the problem is the number of images being posted on the message boards.
We understand that there is no harm meant in posting them, and we are sure everyone has enjoyed them. However, we must request that everyone please limit the number of images posted from now on.
It is our intention to leave the boards an open forum, and we don't want to have to place rigid restrictions on the number of images people are allowed to post.
We appreciate your help with this!
Please feel free to contact me directly with any questions, comments or concerns.

Thanks for letting us know. :) I thought that may be the case.
I know some people haven't been posting as much due to the frustration of waiting forever for things to come up on the site.
I love using graphics, but I think our friends being able to post is much more important! :D So I'll stop using them except maybe on the kitty or doggie threads? Would it still be alright to post to those? I know so many of us get a lot of joy from those 2 threads. :p
Also, I've started optimizing the graphics in the gallery to a much lower kilibite level, so if some of the pics are a little fuzzy, that's the reason. But they are clear enough so we can still see who everyone is! :D
Again, thanks for letting us know and I hope with all of us being aware of the situation, that soon the boards will be running smoothly again!
Sincerely,
Barbara
Hi, BarbaraW!
Yes, posting pictures in the gallery, the doggie, and kitty photo threads is fine.
It's the graphics that can be problematic.
Thank you for your help, and understanding!

No problem...I am behaving. I am sure it is hard for those on dial up to load these pages at times...So, I shall not put so many on.:D
Does this mean we need to remove any images in our signature area? I certainly don't want to contribute to the problem, and will remove mine if this is the case. Thanks for letting us know.

I'm wondering the same thing, Kim. My signature pic is only 11 kilobites but I guess it adds up by being on every page of the Gallery as well as other places. I may make a much smaller one, or take it off completely?
What do you think Eve-Maridy? Please advise. Thank you. :)
Barbara
Hi, ladies!
Good question. We will leave this one up to your own judgement. If you have a huge graphic as your signature, it couldn't hurt to reduce the size a little.
Every bit helps.
Thanks!

We could just use them for special messages or occasions and not every simple reply. That might help in the reduction without having to eliminate them altogether.
Well i can't get in trouble for this one,,,,,don't know how to do it!!!!!!!!!! lolololo
AR......lol it was me!!! :o
Hello...I got your nessage today. Could you please tell how big I can have them be? Is 30 kb's too big?:o
There seems to be a bit of confusion regarding attachments vs. signatures...
Attachments are files that are stored in our database. Each and every time you Attach an image, it takes up more space...
Signature graphics are stored slightly differently. No matter how many times someone with a signature graphic posts, their signature images is only stored once...
So anyone wishing to have a signature graphic is welcome to do so.
Attachments need to be restricted more because they take up a lot more room.
Most community forums don't even allow attachments for this very reason. We decided to allow them in hopes that the use of attachments would not be abused. But over time, these attachments are taking up more and more room in our database.
If it gets to a point where it starts to slow down the message boards, then we will be forced (very reluctantly) to disable the attachment feature.
I hope this explanation helps, and that everyone realizes that the very last thing we want to do is take away your fun.
Thank you Eric, I was wondering about that.
I'm re-doing the photo gallery as we speak. I'm putting in only ONE pic of each person, still in the order the members ORIGINALLY posted. However, if their BEST pic was posted 2nd or 3rd, I'm using the best pic in it's place.
This will take me awhile because I've just started and I'm having to post only 4 pics per page, but it's looking good so far.
I hope this will help.
When it's finished may I email and tell you? Then you can delete the ENTIRE existing gallery and I'll post the new one? :D
Thanks! Barbara
BTW, if anyone has a NEW/DIFFERENT pic you want in the gallery as your ONE pic..... please PM me and I'll have you email it to me , instead of posting it, to save space. ;)
Thanks everyone! :D
I have a question...what if we post a picture of say one of our pets...and then remove (delete) it before the 24 hour deadline?
that way we can post a pix but not leave it on to take up space.....is that ok?:D
Note from the Psoriasis Foundation Member Services Coordinator:
Let me clarify. The problem is not the photographs of people/pets. The problem is images that people attach to their messages for no reason other than for the "cute" effect.
Although the images are fun, they are being overuused, and that is causing the problem.
As Eric said, it is also not the signatures that are the problem.
I know this can be confusing. Please feel free to come to me with any additional questions.
Thanks for your understanding!

that if someone wants to send a name graphic, for instance, that persons has just so many hours to remove it to their own hard drive and the one who sent it has to remove it .(under penalty of law):D
I just don't understand. Why are some people so hell bent on ruining it for everyone else? NPF and webmaster are bending over backwards to accomodate those who want to attach images and tags. Let common decency prevail, instead of this childlike rebelion. We can all enjoy this wonderful place if we are mindful of one another. Pushing the enevlope is not the answer. Sticking out your tounge and going na, na, na,na, na by slipping in an extra image or two is not the answer. I would hope that this lastest pleas for restraint and self control will work, but I don't think so.
One step NPF should take right away is to eliminate all images and avatars from all threads except the Conversations thread.
If there is no improvent in self regulation then I think that NPF should banned all images and avartars in the Coversation Thread for ninety days. Then maybe members will understand what a privilege they have.
If I offend some then I am sorry but survival of these boards are whats important. Need we have to have and hour or day delay before a message is posted. This place is formost a place to share information, ideas and thoughts on this dreaded disease. The Conversation Thread is supposed be where we can have fun, laugh and play around. A little cooperation will go a long way.
Lets us keep what is have and work together,
Mitch

Barb,
I'm sorry that this controversy has caused you to decide to rework the gallery. I know how much time and effort that you put into it and it's something that I personally enjoy very much. I hope that Eve-Maridy's clarification causes you to rethink your decision. The photo gallery is fine the way it is! Of course the decision to tinker with it is up to you, but I would hope that you would at a minimum include the pics from the various get togethers. Please!
I would also hope that everyone would please cooperate and keep the use of the graphics and images to a minimum. Please don't spoil it for the rest of us.
Thanks.
Mike
Come on kids, just as we are so much more than our skin and what we look like, it isn't so important how our posts look as what they say. So stop now!!!! No more attachments unless it's something as important as say...Jessica the Brave's Birthday.
Okay? If we limit it to those very special and unique occasions we can still enjoy posting our occasional attachments. Or we can continue to abuse it despite the warnings and end up with using nothing.
XOXOXOOOXOO
Dont really want to poke my nose in but as someone who had trouble with loading images to the point of leaving altogther - i shall add my 2 cents
Images load quickly for people who have attached them, so there may not seem to be much of a problem.
So i ask you, think of the 2 minute download time i have and others to endure.
On another note, I was wondering before why this issue was never addressed, other boards are reluctant to allow as many images/attachments (as stated) esp. when the threads are left for new members (or as reference) ie not being archived
Which a really great feature i add.
I didnt really say much, but i appreciate smaller images.
Thanking y'all
Paw
Barb, please do not redo the gallery.
Everyone please do not stop posting images altogether but be responsible and like the original post on this thread says:
We understand that there is no harm meant in posting them, and we are sure everyone has enjoyed them. However, we must request that everyone please limit the number of images posted from now on.
And frankly if a person continues to abuse this even AFTER being warned, I think something needs to be done about that on an individual basis.
When people start feeling like they have to stop altogether or rebuild the galleries...it's "officially" been ruined for the rest of us and that is just so sad...and anyone pushing the rules should be ashamed
Just my 2 cents
Hello all.....
Thank you for the kind words regarding the Gallery. :)
I completely agree with Annie (einna). She said,

MikeK and Denise (flatstanley).....
Thank you for your input and support. :)
For now the Gallery will remain the same with the exception of 4 pics per page instead of 8, due to the reduction to 48K per post.
I'm hoping to work something out, that would possibly allow me more editing freedom (for the Gallery ONLY). For example, over the past 10 months several people have asked me to please take out their first pic and replace it with a newer/better one. I'd like to be able to do that for them and sort of "clean up" or as MikeK said "tinker with" the gallery a little.
I'll keep y'all posted, but for now, the Gallery will remain the same. :D
I am not the tag police you guys but we better pay attention to this!!!!
And I have been one of the worst offenders of this but I did not know any better until this post!
We have been warned you guys!!!! And I love the tags I have about 1,000 on my pc... LOL!!!!
We all have very good friends on here!!! USE EMAIL!!!!
Why can't you just get a bigger or better server? That might work.
