Question:

has any one used methylprednisolone 4 mg:(

Answers:

Hi Andrex,
I've never used Methylprednisolone, but I just checked and discovered that it's listed as a Class 7 Steroid on the NPF's Steroid Classification Chart. That means that it's a pretty weak steroid. (Steroid as classified, by strength, into seven different classifications. The higher the number the weaker the steroid. Here's a link to a thread that includes a post that has a copy of the chart in it: .) Some doctors prefer to gradually work their patients up to the stronger steroids. That's because long term use of the really strong steriods can lead to problems such as skin thinning. As soon as they find something that works, they'll often have their patient alternate use of the steroid with a non-steroid such as Dovonex or Protopic. If the Methylprednisolone isn't working for you, you might want to consider asking him for something stronger. He or she might limit your use of a stronger steroid to the weekends only or even for a maximum of a couple of weeks.
I hope this helps. Please let us know if you have any other questions. Good luck. Keep us posted and please don't be a stranger.

Hello Andrex,
You do not give very much information on what type and how serious your p is? As far as methylprednisone goes it is an oral steroid and usually given if your p is serious or very stubborn to treat. What all oral steroids do is decrease your immune system. This helps in p because with p your immune system is misfiring and this drug will suppress those misfirings. Like all steroids though, if you are on them for a long period of time and i repeat a long period of time your body will not manufacture it's own hormones which you will need in case you acquire some sort of infection. This can have a catastrophic effect. Your derm will probably prescribe this for a short period of time with a tapered down dose to prevent any disturbance in your body's equilibrium as well as any rebound effect on your p.
Hope this has helped you.

Answers:

Methylprednisone is not neccessarily an oral steroid. In it's topical version it's the weakest strength you can get and still have it called a steroid. If you have the topical version and are not seeing desired results you have plenty of stronger levels to acheive if that is what you and your doctor decide. If it is in fact the oral version of the medication you need to be real careful when stopping the medication to prevent a terrible rebound flare.

I have used it-
My MD prescribed it for my asthma -it did nothing for my skin at all.
