A poem for my mother
Question:

After spending six and a half years in two different nursing homes, my mother passed away on March 6th of 2001. This was during the night in the middle of a blizzard here in the northeast. Sadly, no one from her family was at her bedside when she passed. This includes her three children (myself, my brother and my sister). My father passed away in 1983 and her only surviving sibling was 91 and lives far away.
This is a poem that I wrote for my mother the day after she died and then read at her funeral.
ROSES ON THE ARBOR
I look upon the arbor in spring, anchored deep in fertile ground,
Its long spans arching firmly upward and
Along their guiding lengths, the buds of three roses.
I look upon the arbor in summer, standing firm in warm sunlight,
Its long spans arching ever upward and
Along their guiding lengths, three roses bloom.
I look upon the arbor in autumn, weathered now in cold sunlight,
Its spans now bending as though to follow the arc of the setting sun.
Within its spreading shadows, three roses have become a bouquet.
I look upon the arbor in winter, its form now dim in fading twilight,
The stems of three roses remain, nestled close,
Within their shadows, the promise of spring.

Thank you for sharing this. I lost both my parents when they were still young. To my amazement, I am now as old as my Mother was when she died. And, like you I still miss both of them.
Just remember they understand better than we do when we can't be with them at the end. I believe deeply that they will greet us when it's our turn.
Take Care,
Dove

1 Attachment(s) Beautiful Poem - I had a very relaxing feeling upon reading your poem Jor-El
as my Darling Mother, Dad & my Darling husband are all buried together near a beautiful
large man made pond and trees near by where I'm to be next to them when my time comes...

Answers:

Thank you, one and all for your kindness. It's greatly appreciated.
As you may have surmised, the arbor is a metaphor of my mom and the three roses is a metaphor of her three children.
