Question:
Thought while I was venting I'd get this off my chest also...Why do we allow the insurance companies dictate medical care. And better yet what can we do about it? What happened to the good old days where your doctor said "your sick and need to be in the hospital" and you went? Now it's you need to be in the hospital BUT you can't go unless you want to pay for it yourself. The doctors spend how many years in school, only to have their knowledge and sometimes years of experience questioned time after time. Or the doctor writes you out a script, then you find out it's not covered by your insurance. Is the health care system too far gone in this country that it can't be fixed? Where do we start? Anyone out there fed up enough and would like to join me in a letter writing campaign? Anyone with a background in writing that would like to draft a powerful letter that we can use as a guideline? I say we P sufferers have enough to deal with already. We don't need to be told NO you can't have that treatment, No you can't have that drug...Lord forbid it might help our condition. I say it's time we let our voices be heard. Lets keep this thread going...Vent away!!! whew I feel better now, that was fun!!! hang in there everyone....pat:)
Already wrote me a letter to the :D
But you are right the current system does need major over hauling. My biggest grip is your pretty much stuck with what ever INS your company provides instead of being able to search for a plan that suits you best.

What we have today is what was supposed to fix the old way.

Health insurance s****s, but it's better than the ulternative.
I'll try to keep this brief, but this subject is important to me right now. Two Dr.'s want me to have a biopsy on my tongue. They diagnosed Leukoplakia which can become cancerous. The Dr. they want to do the biopsy is an Oral Surgeon. Our insurance doesn't cover dental. So I'm in wait mode while the Dr.'s try to convince insurance that this isn't dental. What do the insurance people think? That teeth are the only thing in the mouth? That an Oral Surgeon isn't the one to operate on a tongue? It's bad enough to be scared and worried about what they will find, without being on hold while they fight. I just want this over with. I already had a biopsy on my tongue two years ago, and have been mis-treated since. So stalling now is not in my best interest. This insurance situation in our "Land of the Free" is nothing but a crime!
Thanks for letting me vent/rant/rave and gripe too.

Run to the nearest Ear, Nose & Throat surgeon for your biopsy. This should NOT be done by an oral surgeon!!!!!!!!An oral surgeon is a dentist who performs dental surgical procedures. That is why it is not covered by insurance. It is not a surgical procedure that type of surgeon should be doing. If there was a problem with the biopsy you would be promptly referred to an ENT surgeon.
It was an ENT that has been mis-treating me for two years. This is a small community and I have to go to a larger town to get treatment. The Oral Surgeon is the choice of my Primary Care and Derm. I trust them to know best. I will not return to the ENT who has ignored every thing I've told him. It seems that this Oral Surgeon is familiar with P in the mouth. Which I have, that has also caused Leukoplakia on my tongue and inside my cheek. That is what they want another biopsy on. I may still have to see another Dr., but I'm not giving up on this one yet.
Annie, I thank you so much for caring enough to be concerned.
