Question:
I am currently using an ointment called Dovebet and I have been using it for about 5 weeks now it doesn't seem to be making much difference and is thinning my skin. I am wondering if anyone else has or is using it and how they find it?
Also has anybody heard of exorex, you can buy it over the counter as it is not prescribed, it comes in a form of a liquid and a moisturiser. I would like to gain more knowledge on this ointment as I am considering using it. Thanx

This thread would be better suited for the psoriasis forum rather than the conversations forum, but that does not mean it should not be responded to so I appologize for noticing it rather late.
Dovobet is not available in the US so I have no experience with it, but from my understanding it is a compound of dovonex (a vitamin D3 derivative) and a potent steroid. The steroid used in the compound is very potent thus the skin thinning, but it is odd that you are not seeing benefit from it. Perhaps seperate prescriptions for dovonex and a potent steroid (such as temovate, ultravate, or diprolene) would suit you better. A good way to use the 2 seperately is by using dovonex monday-thursday and the steroid friday-sunday this way you minimize the thinning effect. You may want to even try a totally different approach with something like tazorac (I'm not sure if it is available where you are) which is a topical retinoid, but just note that retinoids, whether oral or topical, usually make the P worse before making it better so a good 8-12 weeks is needed to see optimum results.
Exorex is a coal tar treatment...so if you have used coal tar in the past with good results it should work for you and if you haven't then the you probbaly won't. If I remember correctly exorex is rather pricey so you may want to try using a cheaper coal tar ointment to see if it helps at all before trying the expensive ones.
Hi Heva18,
I don't think that we've met, so let me take this opportunity to welcome you to the Board! I'm sorry to hear that you're going through such a rough time. The good news is that you've come to a very special place. A lot of very nice and helpful people post here. It's great to FINALLY be able to ask questions, exchange information, vent or even share some laughs with people who truly understand. :)
I've never used Dovobet. As Chaim mentioned, it's not yet available in the US. I understand that it's a combination of Dovonex and an steroid. Some of the stronger steroids can lead to skin thinning. Please talk to your derm about the the problems are experiencing.
I used Exorex for a couple of months. It was a two part treatment. You first applied what they called Penetrating Emulsion, which is a coal tar based lotion. I still have some. The bottle says that you can use it up to three times a day. When the lotion dried, you put on what they called Stabilizing Cream. Both the cream and the lotion had to be purchased together, if I remember correctly. It was VERY expensive and wasn't covered by insurance because it was available over the counter. I only got so-so results from it, so I stopped using it. I didn't know that it was still available. I haven't seen it in a long time. (They also made a shampoo, if I remember correctly.) Everyone and their psoriasis is different. It might work for you. It can't hurt to try it.
Good luck. Keep us posted. Please don't be a stranger.

I currently use only the exorex lotion which I apply and then after a minute or two when its dry I apply emulsifying ointment which is kinda like vaseline, this seals in the moisture, I have found it to be really good, and have had patches clear for months at a time, however everyone is different.
Also in the range is shampoo which a friend uses and swears by it.

I tried Exorex too--clear about 10%
I wouldn't recommend it- the high cost for very little results.
Ask you doctor for Elidel it work preety good about 70% results.
Good luck!
