Got my first injection Tuesday..
Question:

I recieved my first injection of Isle 12 Tuesday. I hope it wasn't the plecebo, and if it isn't and I got the medicine. All I know is that I am itchign more than normal. I go back today for bloodwork. Joy joy and more joy.. I so hate needles. I will get the next injection next tuesday. It will continue like this for the next three weeks. Injection tuesday, blood work on friday. Is it a wonder I despise needles?...lol... But life goes on and so must I. I think the most dehumanizing thing about the whole process is the picture taking.. I am really modest and very shy. I know it is done as a way of keeping track of my progress. I still don't have to like it. Thank goodness though that i have a really patient and understanding doctor. Well enough from me for now. I have t go get ready for the vampires to take more blood.

I know what you mean about the vampires! ...and it doesn't help that I have crappy veins, and have to be poked about 3 times to fill their little vials!
....and don't you just LOVE the "modesty garment" ?! I swear a stripper's g-string covers more!!
Good luck, and hope whatever you're getting helps. :)

Thanks for the update Gretchen!
Good for you for feeling the fear and doing it anyway!
I know what you mean about the pictures I had a derm in Ohio that took Polaroids i thought it was very odd and needless to say it was very uncomfortable.
Keep us informed I'm proud of you for trying this

Speaking of modesty, what til ya hear this one.........I never took my sportsbra off for my surgery (like I was suppossed to)........when I got in the operating room, they went to hook up the heart monitor....hehe....surprise!!!!I figured they were doing my mouth they didn't need me to striip..........I guess they have their reasons ..lol (Annie probably hates people like me.....:) ).
Cricket, I miss talking to you, hope you are doing better, and I wish you the very best luck!!!!!!!!

Pam,
Are you kidding? I've dreamed up everyway to get into the OR for surgery with most of my clothing on and as much make-up as I could get away with. If I need to have my shoulder done I have a tube top picked out. When I had my knee scoped I wore bicycle shorts. Had to take off the undies for the hysterectomy, but had my friends in the room with me and had it under an epidural! So you see, I'm crazy like you.
How is your face? Did you get the path report? Sure it's just one of those annoying cyst type things. But for some reason the gang in Deb's playhouse is always being challenged!

Im hanging in there by the bits of my nails Mitch, the new nurse they have there has been hitting veins wiht me left and right so tha tis a good thing. thank you for the prayers, I hope the enbrel starts workign ofr your p not just your pa. its a good thing though.
Torry, I know what you mean by the modesty garment, I swear I was constantly shifting that darned thing aroudn so it would ride up my butt.. I hate that. The first study I was in, they ended up having to bring in others to try and stick me for the IV. It was a mess. I ended up having to stop that study because of the way my veins are, they tried stickign me in my feet. All I can say is ouch but i toughed it out. and cried cause it really hurt.
Poloriods? that just sounds fishy to me. Out and out fishy. I promise I will keep everyone up to date on my progress (scuse me gotta go find a door jam for a moment)....hee hee much better now.
Thanks Pam. They do the best that they can to make me feel more comfortable. But sometimes you just can't help it. With the way my skin is I don't even like undressign in front of my husband. I am afraid he will run sreaming out of the room. I know he won't but it is my irrational fear. Go figure.......

Ok, I got my second shot tuesday and still itching like there is no tomorrow. BUT I am starting to clear. I thought i was but knowing me I had to have others tell me because I thought I was losing my mind. Guess not .. As each day goes my spots are starting to go from red to pink, the scales are thinning out which is making me sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo happy.
And definately I will come and visit you Pam. But first I need to go to Georgia to see my darling brothers. Maybe in late April early May I can ditch the hubby for a week and Stephen and I will fly down to visit.

Hang in there, Gretchen! Itching is healing! If you can stop the scratching cycle (easier said than done), it will heal that much faster. Glad to hear that it sounds like you're on the way! :)

Answers:

Gretchen,
Congratulations on your progress. I agree with Torry. Itching is an indicator of healing for many, including me. It sounds like you might be taking the real deal and not the placebo.
One question: you refer to the treatment under study as "Isle 12". Do you think that might be "IL-12"? ("IL" is an abbreviation for "interleukin".) Would you happen to know if there is a link to the study listed in http://clinicaltrials.gov, or http://www.centerwatch.com or in the ?
Best of luck.
