Question:
I know I have seen this information on the boards before but I tried searching and couldn't find it again. I have been try to post a couple of pictures but no luck. I had them put on a cd and when I try to post then I get an error message that says the file is to big. A freind help reduce it some (don't know what he did but still to large. I guess I will have to stay anonomous. Can anyone help. Thanks
You have to open the picture in something like microsoft photo editor then open the picture go to image (at the top) and choose crop. Then you can decrease the margins and make the photo whatever size you want.
Chaim is right
Also, it depends what photo programs you do have. If you have Photoshop for example there's an area called Image Size under the menu titled "Image" up top. In there you can set the resolution to 72 dpi. Anything higher than 72dpi is not necessary for web use. So, if this particular picture happens to be say 120 dpi then it's making the file bigger unnecessarily. So, you can go ahead and change it to 72dpi. Also in that same area you can reduce the picture. You can type in the size you want or even reduce it by say 50% if you think it's twice the size you need, etc.
If you want to email the picture to me I could reduce it for you, also.
This is what I posted in another thread re: posting photos:

If you dont have a graphics editing/viewing program, or want one that is small, free and rated 5 stars by everyone, download IrfanView from:
Irfan View
The author constantly updates the program. I guess he is the true model of an Internet global citizen.
Open the photo with IrfanView, and in the Image menu item, there is a 'Resize' command. Then use 'save as' in the file menu. When the box pops up, you'll see a small options button on the bottom. Click on that.
It takes you to the jpg quality setting. Put the slider in the middle, click 'ok',
then save your photo, either with a new name or as a replacement of the original.
If you are going to upload a photo using the 'attach file' function on the board, it has to be no larger than 102k. You might want to make it closer to 50k, so it loads faster for people with dial-up connections.
As Chaim mentioned, the resolution should be set at 72 dpi. If it is higher than that (and it probably is if you had the photos put on a CD - they do that so if you will have better print quality) it can look like a normal size on your PC, but will look enormous on anyone elses.
Hope this helps!
Hey Guys,
I am soooo jealous that you understand all of this posting your pictures thing. I am so not able to do any more than posting that it kills me to look and feel so dumb.
There! I vented about my stupidity and I feel better.
But I really love all the pictures. Keep them coming!

Hey guys:
At least you're not afraid to USE the computer! ;) I can't get my mom near one! She still uses her old-fashioned typwriter at work no matter how much I tell her she would love Word!
Oh, well, she wouldn't use a VCR or answering machine for years either, and she got a cell phone last year, so I'll just keep bugging her! :D I'm REALLY good at that!
Thanks guy for all your advise on how to post a picture I finally was successful in posting a couple of pictures. As always I can know I can count on someone willing to help. You may have created a monster. How can someone tell me how to take a good picture. Only kidding!!!
I agree IRFANVIEW!!
And I have a digital camera and I love it but I about went nut's trying to figure it out!
I finally learned how to crop the pix down I took with it! But before I did I would send pix o people that took the whole page!!
I finally stopped sending them until I figured out how to make em smaller!
One thing I discoverd was half the fun of learning how do do pc stuff is figuring it out all by yourself!
One thing I think is totally great is a Google tool bar! Any error message you get type it in to Google and you will see probably several people who have had the same thing and sometimes boards like this one you can post on...Post your problem and some geek will be glad to reply to you...
