Question:
Well I finally made it back home from Chicago. The training class was ok,but nothing I couldn't have learned at home. But the highlight of the trip gave me the wonderful opportunity to meet a bunch of wonderful people in the windy city. To those who were there, Allie, Bella, Shana and Gerry thanks it was great meeting you all. But my adveture really began on my trip home.
Getting to O'Hare four hours before my flight I didn't know that I was going to be hassled as bad as I was. While going through the personel metal dector I was pull asdie because of the tee shirt I was wearing. This tee shirt the same one I gave to my new freinds said on the front "Yeah I'm A Little Flakey" and on the back it said "Get Over It... I Can't (will try to post a picture of it in the next few day). They pull me aside into a little office. Search through all my possession with a fine tooth comb question me at lenght to my motive. What a hassle, finally they let me go to my flight. I covered the shirt up with a jacket until I got on the plane.
While I was on the flight a did get a lot of compliment on the shirt all though most people didn;t understand the meaning of the shirt until I told them. They all smiled.
What a trip but I made it home safely. I know the agent was being super careful but I gave him know reason for concern. I guess to some it's ok to overreact in the name security. The Bill Of Right be dammed.
I guess this probably should have been posted on that thread of insensitive and stupid people. But it really burned my butt. To those people and institutions I say, "Flake Off." It good to be home.
I am glad you all had a good time!
And thats unblieveable to be treated in such a manner over a shirt!
Gee what were they afraid of , you might flake on em? LOL!
Well I better not dare wear a Greatful Dead tee if i want to fly! I would probably get locked up for that!
Sounds like a pain.
Aren't they required though now to pick people out at random to question/search as well as people who look suspicious, because of complaints abt profiling?
My brother got stopped at an airport in California awhile back because he was carrying a badge that retired NYPD officers get. I think he just has always kept it in his wallet. It set off the alarms, but then they decided that he could have just had the badge to pretend to be a police officer! Eventually, someone at a higher level came along who was a bit more sensible, and he wound up not missing his plane.
I was wondering what you were referring to last night in the chat room. I guess they were scared you were going to flake the plane to death.
Not sure I can see myself standing up on the plane and threatening to shake my head until the entire plane is full of flakes but I guess this is an option that the FTA has thought long and hard about.
Can't say I've had too many good experiences with O'hare myself, but nothing like that.
Glad you had a good time in Chicago with some of my favorite people. ;)
Did they actually tell you that they were searching you due to your shirt?! I mean I don't know a lot about these things, but that seems a pretty flimsy excuse for what was on your shirt. Of course, if I was flying I would rather be safe than sorry.
I am happy that you took it with such good nature.
Rosy,
Sorry to hear you had a bad experience at "Fort Knox" (AKA O'Hare)...what a bunch of insensitive clowns! Maybe the word "flakes" got them concerned...especially given their characteristics of being explosive. Well, "flaring," yes, but "explosive" may be a bit too harsh.
Regardless, glad to hear that you're back home safely and really glad to have gotten the opportunity to meet you in person. I now have an entirely new motivation for wearing "the shirt." I will continue to wear it with pride and I will even consider flaunting it the next time that I am in line at O'Hare Field...just to twist the knife a bit, eh?
Take care friend,
Grafexguy
Rosy,
On behalf of Chicago, I am truly sorry!! That is just plain insensitive for them to be like that!!! I have also had the total search, but for me it was because I was flying standby right after 9/11 attacks... Not because I was admitting I was flakey....
As to the fun we had together on Thursday night.... I agree it was a blast & I look forward to chatting with you on the boards. This is a great place & for me an additional family. I am glad you are apart of that fam.
Take Care,
Allie
I also had a similiar situation on a recent trip(all because of a necklace).........they wanted to take me to the "back room". I said how bout this: "I'll take off all my jewelry first and then you can decide if I need to go to the back room". They had all these different people checking me with their "wands".........what a trip!!
I thought of you all this morning when I turned to Regis and Kelly..........they were live from Chicago!!!
Welcome back Rosie........looking forward to seeing "the pics".
Listen guys I have met Rosy!
I would check him out for security reasons as well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
F.M.
Long as they didn't check the police blotter I was safe. But I'm now free.
