1 tsp Powdered Sugar
Ice
Shake with ice and strain into a glass.
Let's say we pick a middle ground How about Nashville and chaimFL can get some Tennesee SOur Mash or CHurchill Downs in Kentucky and have a Mint Julip?
Mint Julep
2 1/2 oz Bourbon
4 sprigs Mint
1 tsp Powdered Sugar
2 tsp Water
In a julep cup or a mug muddle mint leaves, powdered sugar, and water. Fill the glass or mug with crushed ice and add Bourbon. Top with more ice and a mint spring.
1 Attachment(s) FlakeyMatt, your Avatar is cute & very funny. Got a laugh out of me.:D
About the Mint Julep...
I did some very extensive research upon moving south of the mason dixon line.
The Official Julep of the K Derby is made with the above ingredients, to be sure, but without the powdered sugar. In its place simple syrup is used.
The mint leaves are to be bruised, not shredded or ( god forbid! ) chopped.
You guys need to come out West, suck down some whiskey/tequila and beer (no “Foo Foo” drinks here), then Oregon Eric and I will teach you how to go Cow Tippin!!
heps/Helen Glad you like the Avatar I thought it was funny as well and also thought it was kinda like dealing with P and PA!
Fred... Cow Tippin'? Well YEE HAW I haven't gone a good Cow Tippin' excursion in years. Let's go pardner!
FlakeyMatt
bella what is going on here ? lol
Cow Tippin'! Wow....haven't done that since I was living in Virginia.
We used to also play Cow Pie Bingo. Now, that's a hoot....couple that with your tequilla/whiskey and beer, and/or foo foo drinks and you've got yourself a grand time!
Sorry to just butt into your thread here, but I just had to when you mentioned Cow Tippin. Plus those martini's sound yummy.
ANd I gotta tell ya, after I lived in VA, I moved to KY and you're right about those mint julips. Simple syrup, and the mint sprigs that need to be bruised. And, it can't be just any ole bourbon, mind you, it needs to be Makers Mark. Served in the official Kentucky Derby glass!
Have a great day, everyone! Thanks for letting me just butt right in!! :)
Ann:)
Oh for pity sakes we have people so knowlegeable that they know what the official drink of the kentucky derby is???
Well all I can say is lawdy dawh!!! LOLOLOLOL!!!!
Actually I found that quite interesting PJ !!!
I am just a chick from the sticks and I drink arbor mist wine the 3.39 a bottle stuff with the screw on cap!!! You people are just too houdy toudy for me!!! LOL!!
Caution Blonde at work!!
Ahhh, yes....the Mint Julip, the official drink of the KY Derby. After a couple of those, I now understand the hat wearing thing! LOL
Now, they also have Mint Julip flavored Makers Mark. Just pour that over your crushed ice and bruised mint sprigs. No need to make your simple syrup. However, that could be considered "cheating"
Ann
Now this is supposed to be about ME!!!!!! Read the thread! Not cow tipping, official derby drinks, or cow pie eating or whatever!!! It is about my Frou Frou drink, and FlakeyMatt throwing me a Super Splendid Martini Blowout poolside in Jersey!!!!! LOL
Naw just joking, Let the cow tipping begin, and the derby drinks run, it's all about fun, and have you noticed that no one in this thread has thus far mentioned a certain letter, which is connected with a certain disease????
THAT'S WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT PEOPLE, HAVING FUN!!!
Gotta go pack my cowboy boots and hat and horse-shoes now, talk to you later!!
Take care and smile
