Collect Questions

My six year old computer died over the weekend. (SOB!) :eek: :mad: I'm more than a little lost without out it. :( The good news is that I routinely back everything up so I haven't lost very much. :) The bad news is that my internet use (including my visits here) is going to be greatly diminished for the next couple of days. :( (I'm ordering a new one tonight.) (I can access the internet from work, but personal use is discouraged for obvious reasons. :rolleyes: ) Sigh!

I can feel your pain, happened to me 2 years ago. My friend was even unluckier, at first anyway. After catching a virus, he had earlier this year high repair costs and 4 weeks ago his computer died, left him forever :p But he applied for a grant and they said finally "yes". So he'll get a laptop in September (I'm jealous j/k). Long time to wait, but I told him, he can be patient. After all he will get the new one for free and has still the family PC in the meantime.

And to think, it wasn't that long ago that none of us had internet and cell phones were still a novelty for the rich. I lost computer access about a year ago and went crazy....no work was done.... no internet.....no email...aahhhhhhh!!!! If it would have lasted longer than a day or to I probably would have need a detox program.

I can trully understand you are feeling terribly sad.... they become sooooooo close and what Chaim mentioned is true... how in earth did we manage before without them.
Anyhow... I hope your new "friend" will be super duper... sure you´ll get yourself the last cry !!!!

I know what you are going through........I had to give up the internet for 2 years to help ease the financial burden at my house, now that things are back on track, I am making up for it.
I not only have the net back, but I bought a laptop from “Steven”……figured he needed the money for bail or whatever now that he isn’t pitching computers on tv anymore……LOL
Anyway, hope you get back soon!


That's too bad, but.....a brand new computer will be a lot more fun!

Thanks everyone. I'm going through withdrawal as I'm typing this. I'm still at work. I discovered that I can live without my cell phone, but I can't live without a computer. I ordered a Dell. They said that I should have it early next week. I can't wait!

Great news on your getting a new Dell...The CPU fan failed on ours, and my husband called service, which was in India, and they got in touch with a tech near us, and he came the next day and fixed it...at our house...cool huh? Put a new unit in, in about 5 minutes...Great service! Have fun!

I've never had that happen to me, but I can only imagine how frustrating that must be. Don't get too stressed though and cause a flare of the P!!! Deep breaths, deep breaths!

I just got a new one so I know the anguish that you are experiencing. For me it was kinda like being without P RX's during a particularly bad breakout. Yuk!!
I've calmed down now and so has my P. After getting this new one I just went through a period where I could get here and read all of your posts but, couldn't post a reply. I was so upset I wanted to pick it up and throw it through the window. I'm serious. I really lost control. Now I've corrected the problem and I'm a HAPPY CAMPER again!
I guess that speaks volumes about my need to be here with you guys and to feel the support of the group. "Understanding" is highly undervalued IMHO.

The machine that died was also a Dell. A couple of years ago, I got hit with a virus (and that's in spite of two virus checkers -- McAfee and Norton's -- that I'm constantly updating) and I can't help but wonder if that's what led to its eventual demise. :mad: (Sigh)
Mama: I know what you mean. It's so frustrating. I have to rely on family and friends (plus a few stolen moments at work) to come here. :( (Sigh!) LOL. I'm also glad to know that I'm not the only one who wants to heave their computer through a window. I live on the 10th floor and have to admit that I thought about throwing my old computer over the side of my balcony when the service tech told me that it was beyond repair.

I am the first to say that I am no expert on this subject. However, my dear husband is. He is very good looking, too, which most likely interests you not a whit.:rolleyes:
He runs McAvee currently on our home machines, but has also used Norton with good results. He says they are interchangeable. However, he has also been running a firewall for years, and claims it has made all of the difference until just very recently.
When we added another new pc to the network here at home this winter, we switched my pc over to wireless cable dsl connection. It has just come to his attention that equipment not on our network has used our connection for internet access twice in the last month!
We have no idea where it came from. If you or anyone else is interested in more information, feel free to pm me.
I hope your set up goes smoothly, and we see you back as usual soon.


did the computer catch fire and burn? if not then did another piece of hardware "fail". if it's a software issue you can just reformat the hard drive and keep using it. if it is a hardware problem just replace the particular part and you'll be right as rain... but you've already ordered a new computer =). just don't throw the old one away yet. you could very well use it as a backup computer.

WEll I am ready to kill my computer!!! I have a cable connection....My computer has slowed down recently...I have done everything I know to speed it back up...I am not exactly computer illiterate and i cannot figure out whats wrong!
