Question:
Sorry for starting this new thread, but I am quite upset. My Mom, who lives in Florida (I live in New York) has been put in the hospital this morning. They said she may have a stone stuck in her bile duct (she had gallbladder surgery many years ago). This would be very rare, but it does happen. They just need to go in and remove it if this is the case. If she has surgery, it will be tomorrow. I leave for Vegas tomorrow morning (11:30 am EST) They also said she may have cancer - her liver enzymes are off the chart. It's a tough decision, but I have decided I am still going to Vegas. My Dad and sister are with her in Florida and I can always go there if needed when I come back from Vegas (Sunday). Am I being selfish in going to Vegas?

Have you been able to talk to your mom before you leave? I'm glad that you have family that will be there for her. I'm sure she would want you to go to Vegas anyway...and if by chance they would want you there in the middle of your trip by chance, I'm sure the airlines could accomodate you with an emergency leave back to New York or Florida.
My thoughts and prayers are with her while she goes through surgery.

I'm so sorry Samantha! Probably your mom will be ok and you will be back from Vegas so soon that she will hardly notice you were gone. If you have to go to Florida, well, I'm sure you could change your flight from New York to Florida without much trouble. Hope everything goes well.

This is your first conference....and you've been living with psoriasis for how long? I'm on your side. I think you deserve an opportunity to do something for you.

I know that this is not an easy decision, but I think that you're doing the right thing. If necessary, you can always get a flight from Las Vegas to Florida.
You've been e-dermic. You survived your own battle with cancer. This is going to be your first conference. You need to do this for yourself.

You may be reading this post from the hotel or when you return home. My experience in years of caregiving for both parents in my house leads me to support your decision. This is time for yourself. I bet you will experience joy and friendship at the conferance based on the posts I have read. Be at peace for there is a soothing calmness in knowing that you know you deserve this time in Vegas. Enjoy!
