Any good books?
Question:

I was just wondering if any of you had any good book recommendations. Is there a book that's inspired you recently or a favorite book of yours you could tell me about? I'll read just about anything, and I'm looking for a good reason to take a break from all these text books!
Thanks, and have a good night everyone,
Katie

Well, i just started it,so cant exactly tell u how good it is...
but im reading "Prophet" by Frank Peretti... this is what the back cover says:
"John Barett, anchorman for the "NewsSixatFive", the citys most watched newscast, has a problem. His comfortable, successful world is being jarred to the breaking point. He's caught his producer skewing a story to fit her own prejudices, then lying to cover her tracks--and she appears to be hiding something much bigger. His fathers "accidental" death suddenly isnt looking so accidental. Carl, his estranged son, has returned to challenge his integrity and probe to find the man behind the TV image. The supposedly professional and objective newsroom is now divided and fighting over Truth. And what are these mysterious "voices" Barrett is hearing..."
So far its really good... dont get caught up in all the religious mumbo-jumbo in the first chapter... it gets better! i swear!!
gnite!

Different Flavor:
Music through the Dark: A Tale of Survival in Cambodia. Its the story of Daran Kravanh's life during the Khmer Rough genocidal reign. How he used music to pull himself and his spirit through, and continue to use it in his new home.. America. I couldnt read this book without crying. The stories so familiar because i hear it all around me, various families and friends. Including my own parents. Who broke through, struggled hard to be where we are today. I feel a closeness to this book. I am a child of WAR.
DEVDAS: An Indian Novel. An awesome read. If you have time, check out the movie as well. It premiered at the 02 Cannes film fest and was a smash. One of the first "Bollywood" movies to make it to the fest. The colors, the dancing.. the movie is as beautiful as the book. But like all movies made from books. Its also pretty different. I wont spill the secrets. Read and watch for yourselves.
Lighter Flavor:
The Devil Wears Prada. The title itself caught me first of. Its just something fun to read.
Some of my fave authors. I love them for their fun, fresh nature and outlooks. Always from a woman's point of view. Linda Jaivan, Jane Green, Molly Jong-Fast, Candance Brushnell and Amy Tan

Hi Katie,
Personally I'd recommend my own book, Divine Witness. It's a fun read and a perfect escape from the torturing of P, PA, or studying!
Of course, I may be biased....

Greetings Katie!
I read some really nice books Senior year. If you're into modern novels, then "Alas Babylon", "Night", and "Into the Wild" are pretty good.
"Alas Babylon" is about the lives of a Florida community after a nuclear holocaust and what they do to survive before they ar rescued.
"Night" is the true story about a young boy named Elie who experiences losing his family during World War II while in a concentration camp.
And "Into the Wild" is about the journal entries of a rich, independent child named Chris McCandless who leaves all his family and friends, and roams across the American Southwest and winds up in the Alaskan Bush.
They're all pretty short, but they were such nice books, I kept them after Senior year.
have fun! :)

That's great, Molly. Glad you enjoyed the sample chapters! That's why I put them up there, so people could get an idea of my writing style and see if they like it.

I just finished reading Maus I and Maus II for my English class. It's the story of a Holocaust victim, written by the man's son. What makes it really awesome though is that it's not JUST any old book, it's done in a comic strip. I know, sounds a little silly and totally unbefitting of a tragedy like the Holocaust, but both the books are REALLY awesome! I can't even describe how brilliantly done both of these books are. They're both by Art Spiegelman and I tell ya, I couldn't put them down once I started!!

I am reading Broken Music by Sting. It is taking me awhile to get through, because I don't have alot of time to read, but it is really good.

My favorite book I have read was Les Miserables by Victor Hugo. i read the unabridged version and it was quite long. But I enjoyed it.

Anything by Janet Evanovich. Oh my God, she is just TOO hysterical!! Only author that makes me laugh out loud. I've got my mom and sis reading her now, too. She has a whole series out about Stephanie Plum, a character who's a "Jersey girl" working as a bounty hunter.
I work with financial stuff all day long, so I like good easy reading in my spare time.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions-
I've heard a lot about the DaVinci Code- I'll have to check it out.
Renae- that actually sounds really intersting! I'm definitely going to look into your suggestion. I recently went hear a woman speak about her own experiences surviving the Holocaust, and it was incredible.
Seek- I'm going to check out your websight!
I'm going to look into all of these suggestions, thank you all!
Katie :)
