help for my sister
Question:

My sister has what I believe to be erythrodermic psoriasis on her entire body except for her face. She has been dealing with this for a great many years. She is at the point right now where her entire body is severly red and burning and itching. She looks like she was in a fire. Her skin scales and flakes all over. She is constantly cold and shivering. She has been going to a doctor who put her on steroids (prednisone). She went back to the doctor today and he told her that she had a reaction from that medication and he told her to take twice the dose. After reading extensively tonight the information on the web, I think that my sister is in serious trouble and should be hospitalized. My question is does anyone know of a doctor in New Jersey who specializes is this type of psoriasis. I really think that she needs to be treated by someone who is an expert in this field. She also has high blood pressure, she swells up especially her ankles. Sometimes she cannot even walk. I appreciate any help that anyone can give me as I am very concerned for her.

Answers:

This is a very serious form of psoriasis.
I would get her to an emergency room now.
There are several folks here from NJ and I'm sure someone can refer you to a good doctor.

Post this under the psoriasis section. More people will see it faster! Good luck finding the right doc.

Hi
I'm sorry to hear about your sister. I don't know where in NJ you live, but I live in NJ and my derm is at the University of PA. Her bedside manner leaves something to be desired but she treats over 200 patients per month that live with psoriasis. That being said, I live with her lack of fuzzy communication and allow her to treat me. I've had psoriasis for 22 years and this is the first time in a long time I've seen any results. I'm currently taking Remicade with minimal side effects and it has given me my life back. The University of PA has an entire clinic dedicated to the treatment of psoriasis.
I hope this helps!!!

Hi Patti,
Welcome to the Board. Nice to meet you. I'm sorry to hear about your sister. :( I agree, it sounds like your sister is e-dermic. E-dermic psoriasis can be very serious. I just sent an e-mail to several friends who've been in your sister's situation. They'll come along shortly and help you in any way they can.
Where in New Jersey are you?
Please keep us posted.
Mike

Hi,
We have a small team of advocates who work exclusively with e dermic patients. We have a group of Dr's who take our patients, and we have an excellent Doc in NJ. You need to send me a pm here with your phone number, and I will give you a call as soon as I get it.
I'll be online all afternoon watching for your message.
Regards,

I am sorry to hear about your sister I am one of the friends of Mike that have had to deal with Erythrodermic psoriasis many times Most of the time E-derm is triggered by a infection commonly strep The infection has to be treated aggressively Prednisone is a common treatment for E-derm the trouble comes in when you taper off of the prednisone to fast usually not when you start it but she could be allergic Yes I think your sister needs to be in the hospital If she is shivering and feeling faint you need to take her to the emergency room she can go into shock and that can be fatal I have been in that situation 10 times now We need to know what part of New Jersey you live in and we can suggest a doctor that has experience in treating Erythrodermic Psoriasis Not all doctors know what to do for it If you like you may email me at davidk_46219@yahoo.com
