My son is the Apple Campus Rep at his college. He plans on getting one, but of course he has just about everything that Apple makes. We all use Apple computers here at home. My son says the iphone is awesome.

This phone looks awesome. I want to get one although I don't have much use for it, lol. So I guess I'll save my money. My cousin will be getting one, I'll just play with his, lol. Apple is the best! My whole family uses Apple, I'm the only one that has a windows machine. But in my defense it was a gift, lol.

I want one. I was converted to apple about 3 years ago. Although I'm happy with my treo and have had poor service with cingular in the past. I think I'm going to hold of for a while. Hopefully it will come to other carriers as did the razr wich was originally launched exclusive to cingular.

i jusr read an article and it says the iphone will be exclusive to cingular for 5 years.what makes me mad is cingular is not even giving you a break on price of the phone for signing a contract.

This could be an Apple thing. My uncle used to have a store where he sold Macs/Apples and they allow for very little profit on the part of the store owner. You basically have to make your money from selling software and/or repair services. So Apple probably wouldn't give cingular a chance for much profit on the phones and therefore they can't afford to give you a break.

I am a Sansa user so I do not know much about i-pods, but I was wondering, Will users be able to replace the battery on the new iphone? At a picnic over the weekend, a few people were discussing their i-pods and I thought that it was odd that they mentioned an inability to change batteries. i.e. if the unit is not charged they cannot just pop in a fresh cell and continue to use the player. Also if the battery goes bad, the unit needs to be returned to the factory for repair.
I don't have an i-pod so I am just repeating what was mentioned by two unhappy i-pod users (both had battery problems). Anyway, will this technical blunder be fixed on the new i-phones. I agree, they do look cool, and the dual function will be a good thing for a lot of people.
Another question....Isn't Cingular now AT&T? Probably won't have a bearing on exclusivity rights for the i-phone, but might have an effect on services.
Cheers

As far as battery problems on the ipod, I've personally never had any and I've been through 4 different ipods. Not because they've died just because I wanted a newer model. The iphone battery is not replaceable, however I don't think most cell phone users cary around an extra battery, at least I don't. Cingular was jointly owned by bellsouth and att, att recently purchased bellsouth and they will be changing the name of cingular to att since they now own 100% of the company. From my experiences with cingular I can only hope the change will effect services for the better.

From my experiences with cingular I can only hope the change will effect services for the better. Both of the folks that had problems with their ipods were health enthusiasts and mentioned biking and hiking as two pastimes that are not ipod friendly. I think you are right, for the average Joe battery life and the ability to insert a fresh cell is not very important. My Sansa 250e unit locked up once and the only way could reset it was to remove the battery, an option I would not have had with the ipod but then again I may not have had that problem with an ipod either. Anyhow, I would prefer they ability to access the power cell but having a completely sealed unit does have certain advantages waterproof, being one. I am also a cingular customer and to be honest, very happy with the services. I am hoping that my services do not take a dump with the AT&T regime.
I suppose it is all a matter of perspective and meeting individual needs. Apple/ipod is certainly doing something right.

So does that mean, that if you don't have cingular you can't use the iPhone? Damn it....I want one...but I like my service plan a hell of a lot better than ANYTHING cingular can give me.

That's insane. No thanks. lol...
500 dollars...that's 7 credits for me....which is two classes and a lab. That money can DEF. go to something more important than a phone that can scroll, no matter how amazing it looks.
Plus, once I get enough money for two semesters, I'm gonna save up for an amazing new laptop (possibly the iMac. I haven't decided yet.) I have to see if my dad can get my stupid laptop fixed...so it'll stop freezing up for no reason.

I would love one... I have a good cell plan now with Verizon, but I'd be willing to scrap it for an iPhone in a skinny minute **IF** stupid Cingular/AT&T had service at all in my area.
Maybe they'll just make a handheld. Who needs to talk on the phone?

Answers:

Cingular should have service all over the nation....

Answers:

should, but doesn't... apparently they have no service at all in VT either.
Where I live, you can certainly buy a phone and get a contract with cingular/AT&T, but you'll be lucky if you can use any of your minutes in any of the places (home, work, shopping) I frequent. Everyone I know locally who has tried a contract with them actually could get out of it because the service was so bad. I imagine they are improving, but I don't want to pay a monthly service fee just so I can play with the iPhone & still use my verizon pink razr (which gets exceptional reception for me, it just looks kind of silly).
According to their their coverage map, I can get "moderate" or "partner" coverage... which apparently means that I can only get reliable service if I am standing outside with no hills nearby... and it doesn't cover data, either.
From the website:
I was looking into other plans and yeah, the contracts was what got me. I was like 'I can't tell you if I can afford THIS plan for 2 years......I move, I might need a new number, new plan, new whatever.' so I like my current plan, and I haven't heard of any other business doing it, but the month to month thing (you can go up to one month of not paying and still have your money with no reactivation fee) works for me. Pay the bill of 61.80 a month, and no issues. -shrugs- Signal sucks sometimes....but yeah. I prefer it. I can talk as much as I want (my month is almost over and I've used 5535 minutes so far.) That's in a month, I needed an unlimited plan within my price range, and other unlimited plans are insane!
we have a local company called simmetrypcs that offers unlimited for 39.99 a month.my plan with cingular is not bad i get 450 anytime min and free mobile to mobile and unlimited night and weekends for 39.99 a month.

Answers:

Yeah, I was looking at that plan with cingular (when I was thinking of moving to a city that didn't carry my phone) but I can't do that one, lol.
I talk like all the time, and for some reason there doesn't seem to be an off switch. Plus, I would need unlimited texting, which would bump it to 55.00 a month with cingular (unlimited textin is 14.99 a month) As long as I can, I'm keeping my plan. ^^

There's a review of the I-Phone in today's (6/27/2007) Wall Street Journal (WSJ). Unfortunately, the on-line version of WSJ is available only to subscribers, so I can't post a link.
