Question:
NATIONAL PSORIASIS FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES SPOKESPERSON
(Portland, Ore. – May 2, 2007) The National Psoriasis Foundation announced today that CariDee English, winner of Cycle 7 of America’s Next Top Model®, has signed as spokesperson for the nonprofit organization.
CariDee, who developed psoriasis at the age of 5, openly discussed her disease on the television show that aired in late 2006. As a teenager, psoriasis covered nearly 70 percent of her body. She spent years gathering information and trying various treatments. Her psoriasis persisted but so did CariDee. She maintained an optimistic outlook and the intense belief that modeling is what she was born to do. After hard-won acceptance of the disease, and visits to three different dermatologists to find a treatment that works for her, she is living her dream.
As a youngster, CariDee says she felt “cursed” with psoriasis. She experienced taunts and embarrassment. Today, her “curse” is her cause.
“Psoriasis awareness is very important to me. I want others with the disease to know they are not alone. I want to inspire them to live their dreams,” she said.
CariDee will participate in various events over the next year, including the National Psoriasis Foundation® 2007 National Conference in Las Vegas, Nev., Aug. 17-18.
“This is a very exciting opportunity for us,” said Gail Zimmerman, president and CEO of the Psoriasis Foundation. “Many people with psoriasis are reluctant to talk about it. As a model whose success is dependent on outward appearance, it’s courageous of CariDee to step up and speak out about psoriasis.”
A warm welcome, and congratulations to CariDee.
Thanks for your help! In addition, I am certain that she will be an inspiration to many of those that suffer from this disease.
again, Welcome! :)
Cheers

Welcome and I must say what a wonderful spokesperson the NPF has chosen. I must tell you, while I have never seen that television show, several of the girls at my office are totally hooked on it. In fact, they each couldn't wait to tell me that CariDee had psoriasis "just like you"! It was somehow, for lack of a better word at the moment, "exciting" to them. Now, if this is ANY indication of the awareness and hope that CariDee can bring to this disease, the NPF has certainly taken a giant step for us all!!!
I, for one, am proud and excited to have you, CariDee, as our spokesperson!
Nancy
PS: I cannot wait to tell this big news to the girls at my office tomorrow :)
That's really cool. She's such an inspiration.

That is awesome
Somebody was busy today WOW!!!!
I was reading the new issue of Seventeen [July 2007] & It was updating us on CariDee and what she has been up to since she won. In the tiny box that included only one sentence, it mentioned her spokesperson position.
CariDee English-the first winner to be featured on the cover of Seventeen!-has been busy filming commercials for CoverGirl and acting as spokesperson for the National Psoriasis Foundation.

Dee, thanks for sharing the quote from the magazine. Sounds like this is something near and dear to Caridee's heart, don't you think?
I realize modeling reqires the "perfect" body, skin, etc. I will be surprised if this "spokesperson" has any sign of the disease in order to win America's top model. With that said, why would The National Psoriasis Foundation agree to making a model our spokesperson?
Too many psoriasis sufferers will never be able to become a model! I think this is ridiculous! As a fellow sufferer, I cannot possibly identify with a young beautiful woman who apparently has her disease under control.
Most of us do not..... and never will have our disease under enough control to even wear a pair of shorts or a short sleeved blouse!
What ever gave the foundation the idea of making a model our spokesperson? She does not speak for me!
I also realize the Foundation has been seeking a spokesperson for a very long time. I just do not think this was the right choice.
Just my opinion.
