Question:
Just wondering if there are people here that collect things? If so what do you collect and why? Really I don't need to know why, a simple "because i do" will work, but if you have a reason for collecting what you do lets hear it!!! I myself do not have anything that I am collecting right now but I am kinda getting into lava lamps. I own 2 an old 70's one and a 90's one. I'm gonna try and make my own out of an absolut vodka bottle. I'm sure some of you must have seen the ads.

I collect key chains. I guess because they are cute and they remind me of where I've been.
Thats cool that you collect lava lamps :)

I'm just starting I'm gonna do some research before I get too serious. I used to collect G.I Joes and hockey cards when I was a kid and I just have a hankering to start collecting something again. Why.......... I have no idea.
I collect apples!! :)
Not the actual fruit, but apple "stuff." Started many years ago, prompted by a verse from the Old Testament (Deuteronomy).
My collection numbers literally in the 1,000's as family & friends over the years have given me apple things as gifts. Treasures include two older ceramic pieces -- a Snoopy-on-apple piggy bank, and a PY (Japan) anthropomorphic apple cookie jar.
I collect frogs :D . It has been my nickname (from my brothers )since my Mom lifted me out of the sink for the first time. I was a premie and I guess my skinny legs looked like a frogs !! :o I also collect books as I am a huge bookworm !! Books everywhere in my house, drives my husband crazy !! :p
I like to collect pictures and posters of rock stars, Beatles being the most prominent in my little collection. I'm not sure why I do it, I just like to find pictures of my "heroes", especially ones I've never seen before. My spare bedroom/office in my house looks like the dorm room of my dreams with pics of the Who, Beatles, Monty Python, the Blues Brothers, Janis Joplin, the Grateful Dead, etc., taking up almost every available inch of wall space....it's my favorite room in the house....
Hmmmm.... Where shall I begin........
I guess the most I have is Baseball cards.
Why.. because I can......
I have about 250,000 cards.
I also have signed bats, balls, sports mags. etc...
I also collect Coca Cola stuff.
Why.. because I built a game room with a bar, and my wife said I could not put any beer or alchohol stuff in there. Mainly because our Church Youth Group meets there every Wednesday night.
So I went to a few Antique stores, and the rest is history.
I probably have about 100 old Coke items, ranging from Salt and Pepper shakers, to napkin holders, to trays, clocks, bottles, unused metal caps, etc...
We both collect antiques. Our house is pretty modern looking, but most of our furniture is over 100 years old.
And as a guy thing I collect tools. Actually not collect, because they are not old ones. In the past 17.5 years I have bought probably 1 of every power tool out there :-) I need them for the projects that I do. Building decks, screened in porches, Arbors, Swings, Entertainment centers, Shed, knocking down walls in the house, building rooms, tearing them down and creating a gameroom, etc...
Let's see... well... I guess that is enough for now.
Thanks,
A better question is what don't I collect?!.....lol. My dh keeps trying to ban me from the evil eBay, but I just can't stay away. As a result, I've started many different collections, and I've run out of room to display many of them....it must be time for a new house....lol. :p I have literally hundreds if not thousands of Beanie Babys, Depression glass, brass antiques (small, interesting vases, teapots, etc), fairies (prints, figurines, and whatever else strikes my fancy), oh!...and small, inexpensive antiques, and my most recent obsession: Partylite candles (I just love the fragrance of these, as well as how they burn). So if anyone knows of a good 12-step program..... :p
I collect flashlights. I do so because I want to see in the dark. Some do not understand why. I tell them its like having a new toy, like a new tool. It actually is a protection from insecurity of the dark. No one questions why flashlights when the lights go out at the house or at work. I like them so much I will give them away to others I know who I think could use one. I do this either at night, in a storm, or when the lights go out. That is when others consider it cool. All my family members have been getting a second present at one time or another. Guess what? A new flashlight!
I collect dust....lol. Or at least my house does.
My husband has a huge bottle collection.
I have some collectable sports items mostly from Boston teams, Red Sox, Bruins and Pat's.
My friend added to the collection when the Red Sox won the series in '04, I can't post the name cause that person is a " Evil Empire " fan LOL!!!
It's a first edition stamp. We framed it. :)
I collect cats. At one point I guess you could say even the real ones. I had 11 cats at one point. Now I only have 2 cats. I love them. I have all kinds of cat figurines and pictures.

I collect colored spiral-stemmed wine glasses. Funny! since my husband and I don't drink alcohol...I just like the looks of them and I have built-in hutches in my home so they make a nice display. It's fun to comb the antique shops for them. Part of the enjoyment is the hunt.
I collect postcards, miniature animal figurines, and bird figurines. But my favorite collection is my angel collection. My husband just added to it at Christmas with 8 Dresden angels (from Dresden, Germany that was heavily bombed during the war) playing instruments. They are very fragile. He spent alot of time on ebay looking for them and placing bids so that makes them extra special since he worked so hard on a special gift.
i collect turkeys. weird...i know...it started as a joke between me and my uncle when i was 3. now i own everything under the sun with turkeys on it....napkin rings, candle holders, dishes, stuffed animals, a thanksgiving tree & stocking......it's a lot of stuff. only my uncle is allowed to give me turkeys.
i also collect teddy bears. i have them from a lot of people. most of my bears have a cried in spot on their stomach. but that's what teddys are for...
When I was a kid and sometime into my teen yrs. I collected comic books for entertainment purposes. Marvel Comics line mostly. The only D.C. publication I ever got into was Batman and even then it was few and far between. I fell out of touch with them when I got older (girls were no longer icky) and the price for comics went up to thirty-five cents. From maybe the age of thirteen I stopped reading let alone collecting altogether. I had a renewed but breif interest in comics when in college in the 1980's. Comic prices grew due to the costs of coloring, paper, printing and distribution. So the industry decided to attract adults with real disposable income. Both publications reinvented their traditional superhero characters. The writing and art got more sophisticated, appealing to an older/adult demographic.
Today at the age of 42 I read but do not buy comics. No longer are stories contained in a single issue. A story can last several issues, sometimes a year or more, before concluding. And often these stories would cross over to other titles, which makes collecting a very expensive hobby. We're talking about $3.00 an issue NOW folks. See ya.
I collect t-shirts from all different places that I have visited and friends bring me shirts from their own adventures and any 5-k's and marathons I have ran in the past (I will not have anymore of those due to PA). But, life is good!
Have a great weekend!
Cindy
I collect switch plate covers and outlet covers. I think the plain ones are so boring. I have metal ones and plastic ones and a few leather ones my Mom made.
I also collect tattoos....................I have 11
I collect dolls, teacups, and have inherited a bank collection from my grandmother. But I feel like I need to get rid of these collections, not sure why, I guess cause they collect dust and aren't doing anything for me! LOL

You also collected the best gift of all from the Big Apple! :D how fitting is that!!!
xo sorry I just had too.
