Question:
Life sure was much simpler back then, and wasn't all that long ago. Enjoy. :)
Guess I must be the oldster of this board. :D :D :D :D
Hi Tom,
I just read thru the posting and gee, did it ever bring back memories. I really enjoyed reading it and remembering.
Thanks,
Sandy
I remember all this and more. Like before we got TV, even a wringer washer!
I like modern conviences but wish we could go back to some of the moral values that we had "back then"
Not only do I remember these things a lot of them apply to me & my family today!
It was considered a great privilege to be taken out to dinner
at a real restaurant with your parents?
We did this tonight! ( with my inlaws )
Lying on your back in the grass with your friends
and saying things like, "That cloud looks like a ..."
Do this too, of course not right now BRRRR lol!!! Snow angels would probably work better lol...or ice angels!!
Our parents and grandparents were a much bigger threat!
But we survived because their love was greater than the threat.
Thankfully, this never happened my family always respected one another as my daughter, neices and nephews do. I was never " afraid " of my parents or grandparents or felt threatened by them.
Candy cigarettes
Wax Coke-shaped bottles with colored sugar water inside
Coffee shops with tableside jukeboxes
Blackjack, Clove and Teaberry chewing gum
Home milk delivery in glass bottles with cardboard stoppers
We've always had our milk delivered in glass bottles and can find many of the above items at stores, you just need to look!! tableside jukeboxes are still around here and there mostly at diners.
Telephone numbers with a word prefix....(Raymond 4-601).
LOL MIKE and I talked about this once and sent me a link, it was great reading about it.
I think I will freak out the next person who asks for my number and use this. When I was little we use to say Woodlawn 3 and sometimes shorten to WO3!
Green Stamps ........wow, I remember redeeming these at the Green Stamp store!
My husband sold his 1960 something Studebaker Lark a few years back! We own a Cherry Red 1964 Dodge Dart with 28K orig miles with a pushbutton transmission! Ultimate " nerd " car! :p
Still have these! Tinkertoys, Erector Sets & Lincoln Logs
Decisions were made by going "eeny-meeny-miney-moe"? LOL sometimes my husband and I do this too lolllll! Of course not with big decisions. I don't think my husband does it right, we did it on my block differently than his LOL!
Today I purchased a 1930's Mahogany sideboard from a local antique store it's absolutely beautiful with its simple yet elegant lines. I had searched every furniture store in MA looking for the perfect peice to go with our mahogany dining room table.
Honestly, furniture is NOT made like it use to be... here is a link to a similar LOL ( I wrote exact then went and looked again lol ) it's VERY similar... only I paid more  !! LOL!!

Thanks for the smiles Shadow. Glad to see some of these things still exist today.
Karen
OMG, I remembered EVERY SINGLE ONE of these!! Thanks for making me smile!
Sue :)
I remember them all too! Thanks
Thanks, Thomas. :) I remember almost all of those too....and very fondly. My first car was a hand-me-down from my grandmother: a 1962 Plymouth...with the push button transmission! I wonder why those never caught on? I was just happy to have a car, and it was even more fun because it was unique, as well as very easy to work on. I remember thinking how cool I thought it was when my mom and I changed out the alternator. I didn't realize at the time that it was because she really couldn't afford to have it done by a mechanic. A few years later, the car was passed on to my youngest brother, and I wouldn't be one bit surprised if that good old slant 6 is still driving around somewhere. :)
Kim - I remember having a car that had a push button transmission!!! Wow, brings back memories!!! Remember how "MODERN" we thought we were? This was the "FUTURE", wasn't it :)
