Argh!!
Question:

I need to share or I will implode...
Started out as a pretty nice week, mild weather, for a change no rain and it was pretty quiet in the neighborhood.. Little did I know so much would be lurking there just beneath to put a stranglehold on me and mine. Found out monday that my sister-in-laws sisters husband was killed in a car accident. Which really stinks big time but that side of the in laws is very nice.
Both of the nephews that I watch on thursday nights have hemophilia. Well.. I knew my older nephew had an ankle bleed. If you are in my shoes and used to it you figure no big, dose him with his factor ice his ankle down and let the factor do its work... Oh no he ended up having a bleed in both ankles. My sister took him to his doctor at the hemophilia clinic. We already knew that he down the road was going to have to have his ankle bones fused. Hopefully years but it seems that if he will be having it alot sooner than was hoped. Ok surgery for him.. It can be handled right? Alot of TLC and spoiling then he would be right as rain. Wait it gets better.
Tuesday morning was to be my firt lesson on how to give both boys thier factor with having to actually use needles and access the port through the skin. ( a port is basically a central line on the chest just under the skin.) Well the youngest was first to let me use him as a guinnea pig so to speak. First stick He was stuck but I had missed so I had to try again. Pulled out the needle and pus dribbled down his tiny little chest. I tell my sister and the home nurse who was there to teach me. They told me to do it again and I did and actually got it in on the second try. Not even a wimper from him either time I stuck him. They have this cream that can be put on before hand that will numb the area so there is less pain. Nifty stuff. Gave him his meds, kinda creepy because he was staring me down the whole time. Finished the meds and took the needle out. Pus dribbled out again, so the nurse took a culture of it. Moved on to the other nephew and he was already breathing heavy and darn near hyperventalating . Felt so bad for him but I had to do this knowing that my sister was going to be out of town next week . Got everything ready and stuck him. He screamed bloody murder. My sister stopped me and did it herself. no big to me.. I didn't want to hurt the kid so I let her. But... while i was gettin the factor mixed so I could dose him my sister had called the clinic and talked to one of the nurses there. They told her to bring him in along with the culture. I['m thinkin.. ok she had to take Justin in anyway because of his ankles, now both boys had to see the doctor. She calls me about noon today to tell me that they have started Josh on strong antibiotics to counteract the infection before it got worse. If it doesn't start clearing by monday he is going to have his port taken out and will start getting his shots in his arm again which is much more painful. The youngest the little stinker after all was said and done yesterday morning comes up to me before i left and with a straight face tells me that I hurt him when I stuck him, so knowign me I bent down to hug him and tell him that I was sorry that I had hurt him. He backs up and has a big grin on his face and giggles saying that he fibbed that I didn't hurt him at all. Could have cheerfully strangled him but I tickled him silly for the fib.
We found out last month that Toms mom had cancer and she had her consultation today with the doctor about it. She is going to have to have surgery the day after thanksgiving as an outpatient if everything goes ok. One thing that gets me is that she had went in the first time and they never said if it was benign or malignant. Argh!! I guess they have to wait and biopsy the tumors when they take them out. She knows that we are there for her whatever happens. Tom and I aren't telling Stephen yet, for one he wouldn't really understand and two I don't want him upset and worrying. aI know I have tried talking with her about it but she won't really talk and that has me worried. I know she is worried about the operation but I know it is better to talk about what is worrying you and share the burdon. I know all I could do at that point when she told me today was to give her a big hug and reassure her that i am there for her.
I still feel like imploding but I do feel a bit better.

WOW!!!!!!!!!! and I thought I was having a rough week.
I am so sorry you are having to go through all of this.
My wife and I have been going through it all the last few years.
2 years ago this month I had the SMA (Superior Masonteric Artery <--ms)
dissect (Case number 27 in medical history). My wife got breast cancer last year, and her going through chemo summer of '05 he father passed away. Then Sept '05 I had to have my Spleen taken out because of a sudden enlargement.
All I can say is you will need a lot of prayers and friends to get through it all.
If you are lacking in either let me know.'I will pray doubly hard for you.
Let me or us know if there is anything we can do for you.
Good Luck,
Thanks,

I know I was about ready to scream by time it was all said and done. There is a bit of an up date. My nephew did have his port taken out. They are now waiting for test results to come back to make sure all of the infection is gone and they will put a new one in. As for the other. She didn't have her surgery, she ended up sick as a dog that morning and canceled. So now she will have surgery on the 11th of December. argh!! My son has been sick for the better part of 2 weeks. Finally hauled his screaming butt to the doc yesterday. Sinus infection..poor darlin.. But he has meds now when seem to be helping. Since when did shildrens antibiotics become chewable? All I can say on that is thankgoodness for kids insurance...

Good to hear there is some good news.
Sorry to hear about your son.
Those chewable meds are great arn't they.
I also see in the CVS (Pharmacy) that for $2.99 you can add flavoring for the liquid meds for the children.
Even when my 15 year old son was younger they didn't have that.
It is amazing what they can do now a days.
just think what it will be like in 10 years from now.
Amazing...just amazing.
Thanks,

Oh I agree completely! Then everything that was supposed to make you better tasted awful. Kids lately have it so much better.. Although even the cough meds they gave him had a cherry flavoring he still hated it and had to have something to wash away the flavor.. Don't blame him.. Tasted it myself and it was yuk! But he is much better now, back to his ever energized self. I tell ya though. I did keep him home one more day because of a fever he had. By the next day I was ready to ship his little butt back to school. No such luck. There was a nasty ice storm and the school was closed which had him home for 4 more days. Beign inside like that was driving him nuts. Plus I ended up getting his cold.. LOL Eh! Thats life..LOL

Quick update! She is ok and home resting comfortably. She was a bit punch drunk when they finally got home. Although she looks like some one punched her in the eyes, the bruising is from the incision that runs 2 in. from the inner corner of her eye to almost the tip of her nose. I knew that she wasn't going to be in the mood to eat much or to eat anything heavy so I made a pot of turkey soup. YUMM! By time I said dinner was ready she was sound asleep. LOL so I left it warming for her when she woke.
As for Stephen, he is back to his normal feisty self. Running around and doing his thing. It helped that he had a great week at school last week and it looks as if that trend is continuing. YAY!! I know I have been forever trying to help him to learn to read with no success. But.. he read his first book to me with barely any mistakes. *sniffles* I am so beyond proud of him!
And my nephew. He is fine. His infection is finally gone and they are just waiting for the incision to heal before they will put a new port in. That though does hinge on the factor levels in his blood. But all is well on that front.
As for me? Still about ready to scream. Various factors and enlightening conversations that I have had over the past week/weekend. Not going to get into them all because that would take a month of typing.LOL But one important one is that I have finally have had the time to sit down and wait on hold to talk to some one about getting assistance about getting enbrel. I should know something in a few days. I hope it is good news. If not I move on and find something different. It was the ENcourage Foundation and the lady that I talked to was very nice and very helpful. Knowing my goofy self I had her cracking up by the time we hung up. Well thats it for now. Going to go get myself some more caffine... :D
