Dangerous Disabled Dove
Question:

Some of you will remember the day I got stuck in the mud, and later cracked a rib. Well....Yesterday was sort of like that. Sit back and let me tell you.
I have been fighting a cold/virus for several days. :( Being such a perfect employee, I went to work anyway. ;) Well, I'd pushed myself as far as this old body would go. Tuesday eve I called the boss and let her know I would not be in on Wed. morning. :p What a relief. I intended to spoil myself. DH started the process by going shopping for "sick" food. I gave him a list. He came home with a CAKE that said "Get Well Soon Lee Ann" Bless his stupid heart. A cake for a sick woman who already weighs toooooo much and can't keep anything down! But, there is more about the cake before I say anything about the rest of my "day off" Wednesday morning when I crawled out to the kitchen to take a cold/flu tablet, there was the cake. Or what was left of it. He had eaten everything around the words. Yup, it still said get well, but the rest of the cake was gone! :D
Ok, I can't eat cake anyway. No problem, just something else to remember about the man I married. :o I was wobbly and decided against trying to take a shower. See, I am old enough to take care of myself. So, I just used a washcloth and did what I could. Then I picked up my glasses......and the right lens fell out. I am totally useless without glasses. Blind as a bat. Blind as when they turn the lights off in a deep cave. But, there was a left lens....so I put them on and closed my right eye and tried to find the tiny tiny tiny tiny screw that was missing. Useless. OK, think. There are other old glasses in the house. Find a pair and steal a screw. Yeah, right. Find something when I can't see. No one else around, gotta do it. So I started my search. Success...sort of. I found an old pair, but the screws didn't fit. Well, my last pair of glasses, I knew were out in the glovebox of my car. We have two lots and the garage is on the other lot. I'm sick and wobbly and I can't see. Is it safe to go outside? Sure, I'm inviceable. Haven't I proved it before? Success....sort of. I made it out...I found the glasses...I put them on...they were bleary...but better than nothing. That much I'm sure of. How I twisted my foot...not my ankle...my right foot, I have no idea. Wearing flipflops, I could see a bone bulging from the side of my foot. Now, if I had any doubt about it belonging there, the uncomfortable sensation coursing through this body was enough to convince me there was a problem here. Pure determination got me back in the house. First embarrassment :o kept me from getting help. Then I decided I could wait till DH came home from work. If I called anyone else, I would be exposing them to my cold/flu. So I spent the rest of the day sick, blind, crippled and swinging from tears to laughter and back again....and again. And wondering how I get myself into these fixes. (Please don't tell me!)
Making an already long story short, DH got me to the emergency room. Where my sad story brightened everyones day. (You know, reminded them that theirs wasn't so bad.) Good news....no broken bones. Or so the x-ray says. I still have that bulge that is a perfect description of PAIN. I'm in a splint with instructions to see my Dr. next week if it's not better. Good news? I get to stay home till next week and by then my cold/flu should be much better.
A little mention in your next prayer would be greatly appreciated.
Oh, yes....my glasses got fixed so now I'm only a sick, crippled Dove and no longer a blind bat.
Love,
Dove :)

What a story! I'm right there with you fighting a cold though. That thing about the cake was toooo funny. :) Sounds like something my husband would do. :) It's the thought that counts right? ;)
Anyway I hope you get to feeling better soon!

I am glad you enjoyed my story. We have to laugh at ourselves or our days could get pretty dreary.

Krista, I am staying off the bulge, as much as possible. But, it isn't going down yet. Flu and extra pain......not fair.
Thank you so much Scott, Grannyfranny,Lisa, and RenaeatUNC. I will have time in the next few days for the P site. Not much else can be done with toes up in the air. (Please, no suggestions needed from the grusome twosome or any new co-horts.) There are a lot of new names on here since I visited.
Pam, Molly, and Helen. Old friends. Thank you for the welcome back and the Psalm, Flowers and the Nurse Kitty. You are always right here with support.
And to others who visit this thread. Hope it gives you a giggle. Psoriasis is enough to handle, but life always slips in other surprises. With humor it will always be easier to come out on top. Together we can do anything.

Hi Dove...............so good to see you back....and what a comeback!
It sounds like you had quite a day....but look at the nice vacation you are getting....except if you're like me, I can't stand to be anchored!!! I was in bed several years back with sciatica (brought on by pernicious anemia) and in-between pain I was forced to look at the bedroom!!!! for endless days on end.... over 30 days
well! as soon as I was able....things got changed but fast...... in that room....haha My DH still does not know what happened....new carpeting, new wallpaper, new curtains, the works.
So sometimes it doesn't pay in more ways than one........
That was so sweet of DH to get you a cake for the BOTH of you... :D
hope you can come back an visit more when you get back to normal....but I know you have your hands full.....still it's nice to hear from you now and again.....

I just got home for grocery shopping and my glasses fell on the floor, and dumb me came along and stepped on them...One lens in broke in 3 parts...They are my old glasses, but my others are bi-focals and I don't like them as well..I am such a klutz at times...
I hope you feel better soon!!!
Take care!

Thank you all so much. It's like coming home after a long time. Finding family who haven't forgotten me. I admit I needed the lift. I know we are all under stress. I can't even imagine what some of you are going through with the Hurricanes. You are in my prayers.
I am doing better, except for the "cabin fever" The flu is hanging on and being a nuisance, but the foot feels better.
Thanks for all the welcomes you've sent.

Tomorrow I have to return to the land of the working.
I'm ready! Time off isn't fun when you can't do anything. I do feel better. The foot only hurts when I step down wrong. I still have to figure out what "wrong" is. I guess sooner or later I will need to find a Dr. who knows what happened and why that bone wants to protrude. I can still see it. But at least it isn't causing me pain, except when "I step on it wrong."
Thanks again to all who welcomed me back.
Have a good week ALL.
Take Care & Be Safe,
Dove
