katrina a year later
Question:

well its almost a year gone by for us. and guess what things are just as bad . yall never head me say anything negitive or political on here ever. we here always knew we were treated different and always have been .but that was just life here .buttttt the way this went down and continue to go down lets the rest of this country see with there eyes just how we are treated. and if ya think im sour grapes well yes i am . theres still houses in the middle of the street and all the garbage is still not even picked up and they havnt even came up with a code to rebuild by.sorry for the outburst but somtimes its hard to hold stuff back . oh yea we are the higest taxed state in the country and the lowest income and needy . does that make any sence.
and what kills me is the rest of the country thinks all is well in new orleans cause we had a mardigras.atleast that brought a few familys back together for aleast a little while. im done got that off my chest anways.

Answers:

Joey, it's OK to gripe! I hate what they have NOT done in the areas that Katrina hit.

IMHO, this country should stop all the foreign aid that is given to other countries and invested in our own.

Hi Joey,
I read the Times-Picayune (www.nola.com) on line just about every day. It breaks my heart to read and see what's still going on.
Also, Diane (mdgirl) has several relatives who used to live in the lower ninth ward; she tells me that they still don't have a home to go home to.
The whole thing is very, very sad.
The scary thing is that that hurricane season doesn't end for several more weeks, so it could happen again. That's a very sobering thought!
Hang in there!

hi mike and granny how yall doing .
you can drive for miles and mile and its like out of some horror movie still now. as far as you can see nothing but waist land, wild animals living in homes and businesses cause they dont have anything left either . its so sad to see . no news cast or view from a tv set can give you the true impact of the sight of that.

Answers:

Joey, that is all soooo sad.....:(
You are right....the rest of the country does not think about all of this and it seems when something is old news it is forgotten.
Thank you for bringing this up....it is horrific but the United States HAS to do something! Oh Lord......it breaks my heart.
I pray for better times,
Juanita

I'm doing well, Joey!
I can't even imagine what you're all are still going through.
The situation in St. Bernard parish sounds like it's especially grim.

New Orleans is such a great city, and its people so warmhearted & spirited ... it's infuriating that you've all but been forgotten and abandoned.
Your disgust & anger is completely justified -- shout it from the rooftops, baby!!!!

Answers:

thanks yall . ya cw thats the key i think the word ,spirited. we are like a child that just has there own will and cant be broke. we beat to our own drum and big brother cant stand it .and we air out dirty laundry in plublic a bit to much too . but damn dont leave us for dead shsh .there was running water 45 minutes from nuwalins . and it took how many days to get it there. i hate to say it but it sure looks bad . dont even wanna say what i think. and now just play game after game with people who need help. just like insurance cos. and dont be late with your taxes and ins. premiums tho. wheww ok im done bitchin, i feel better now .

I have seen plenty of storm damage in my line of work. But I havent seen anything like that before. Florida is just gratefull that there is wind codes.
something every state in the path of a storm should have.

Later

Are going to make a trip to Fl. and hang out with us?

Joey,
My heart hurts when I think of what the people of New Orleans has had to endure. NO ONE should have to live like that for a day, let alone a year. New Orleans holds a special place in my heart. My husband and I have traveled there three times in recent years. It is very sad to know that nothing has changed since Katrina. I myself am embarassed at the lack of response our country has taken in regards to the Katrina disaster and it's MANY victims.
Vent anytime Joey!

1 Attachment(s) Hey Joey,
I hate that nothing(or little) is being done in N.O. I have seen pictures of everything..it makes me heartbroken. We had many students come to our school from N.O. too.
I helped raise a bunch of money and that was somthing that I felt needed to be done, I was kind of shocked when for a while there was more money raised for Tsunami relief then for Katrina. I'm glad the statitics have changed but from the looks of it the money should still be in the bank..or most of it at least! I wear my Katrina band non stop. I think i have only taken it off for a swimming event.
I hope N.O gets put back to the beautiful city it once was.

There are stretches of Louisianna and Texas that were hit by Rita that haven't been repaired either. There are parts of Alabama and Mississippi that also haven't been repaired from Katrina.
New Orleans is just the most visible. It was caused by greed and politics because the work done on the levees wasn't proper and the politicians didn't give a damn.
The other places were wiped out by nature.
It doesn't really matter what caused the devastation. The country, not just the affected states needs to put some of the effort we're putting into Iraq, into Afghanistan, and into all of the 3rd world countries into our own country.
The billions of dollars that we're wasting on outside countries needs to be re-directed into our own country.
We should rebuild the storm ravaged areas, then move on to Appalacia, into the backwoods of Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and other states where there is poverty. We need to fund recovery for the Indian Nations. There are so many needy in our own country that it's almost criminal to give it all away.
(There. I've blown off a little steam.)
Have a good night all.

Sadly things can be better in New Orleans. My thoughts go out to you and all the residents. Still, I cant help but say the following. The more I hear the things the New Orleans' mayor has said, the more I detest the mayor and appreciate the citizens of New Orleans (unless of course everyone holds to the same views as the mayor). Honestly do the citizens of N.O. really adore the guy? I know he was voted in for another term but still.....

Dude, I never saw the documentary. I must say that I have seen some of his work. "Do the Right thing" is as balanced a portrayal on race relations as I have seen. Just thought I point that out.

Joey,
This morning on the Ellen Degenerus show, she had the whole show about the Katrina flooding in New Orleans. It was an emotional show. She is from down there and talks about her growing up down there.
