Send good thoughts our way, please....
Question:

If you're a praying person, please pray big time. It's been a hard week around our house, and I'm still waiting to find out what's really happening.
My 3 year old woke up Tuesday with what looked like chicken pox, but it never developed like CP. After her nap, she woke up absolutely covered in huge hives, raised off her skin big time.
Saw her pediatrician that afternoon, and he said she was having an allergic reaction to a virus of some sort...keep her on Benadryl.
At 11pm that night, her right eye was swollen shut and she had two huge lumps on her head....we were off to the ER. ER doc called the lumps angioedema and the rest was still hives/allergic reaction to a virus. He gave her a shot of adrenaline and a steroid, more benadryl, and a steroid prescription. The lumps started going down and the hives were less inflamed so he let us head home.
Thursday morning she woke up 100% covered with these red spots, struggling to breathe (asthma attack), and saying her "tummy hurt", but pointing to her breastbone when asked where it hurt.
Back to the doctor where he gave her a prescription strength antihistamine and will start working with her allergist (likely for an epi-pen or something like that), and we have a follow up appointment this morning at 11AM.
Today she's much better than she has been, but she's still covered with hives (60 to 70% or so). Her feet hurt so much that she won't walk, and while she's in good spirits, she's pretty still compared to how she normally acts.
So! It's been an interesting week around our house...I still don't know exactly what bug she has, but she's definitely having a massive allergic reaction to it, and I'm more than a little stressed over it.
Any good thoughts and prayers you have to spare for her to continue to fight this bug and for me to maintain my sanity and gind some sleep would be more than a little appreciated!

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I know how hard it can be. My son had a emergency this past week, he had severe abdominal pain and it turned out to be a kidney stone (he is only 17), thank goodness he passed the stone yesterday.
I know it is hard when your child hurts, and my thoughts an prayers are with you.
Take care and keep up posted.

Mel,
I am so sorry. What a terrible scare for parents and child! I am glad to hear that she is improving, but we'll certainly keep you all in our prayers here.

By Saturday morning, the hives were down to just on her calves and fading, and by Sunday they were gone.
I still don't know what it was she was reacting to, and while I'm okay with not knowing....I'm not okay with not being prepared should it happen again, and since I don't know what it was, I don't know if it will happen again or not!
When Mom took Bit to see my Pede on Thursday while I was at work, he mentioned the idea he would look into working with an allergist on this, would consider epi-pens to make sure all is well in future, etc. When I took her in the following day for the follow-up visit, he dismissed all that thought and said we just didn't know what it was and that was that.
That's what bothers me more than anything else. I know we're not likely to find out what it was if it was a virus running around....but what happens if it happens again, only worse? I don't like not being able to be proactive and am considering the conversation I need to have with him to manage everything.
Thank you again, everyone....for all your good thoughts and prayers. Pray she doesn't catch this bug again....I suspect it was a mild case of whatever it was, and if that's the case, I don't even want to think about how she would react to a severe case of whatever it was!!!!
