Hey, Florida P people, listen up
Question:

Anyone up for another gathering? I know it's difficult given the size of this state to organize a meeting place that's convienent for everyone, but it seems like most of us live on the east coast. Wiredown, Jopperman and Kcobain all live near the Port St. Lucie/ Palm bay area, maybe if we think about it we can come up with a plan.
Anyone game? :D

Answers:

Alli
I'm in for it. As long as I'm not on storm work. Like you said after hurricane season.

Hey Alli... I'm game :)

Heck yeah!!! It's time for another FL gathering. East coast is a great idea. Somewhere fairly central. I'd drive to Jax if I had to though!!! :D

I was thinking somewhere inbetween the Port St. Lucie/ Palm Bay area. It seems like a middle ground for everyone.
I've contacted Wiredown to see if he knows of somewhere on the beach that has some shopping/restaurants/maybe a pier for fishing??
Dennis and I were also talked about timing....mmmm....Hurricane season is upon us, we were thinking sometime after mid-September.
Lets keep on throwing the ideas around.
Alli
P.S. Jen, you HAVE to be there, you're my travel partner :)

Answers:

You know it, Alli. Neither one of us can attend any P functions without the other present. It just wouldn't be right!!! :D ;) :D
I think you've got the right idea about location. I've always heard nice things about Sebastian,
Jen ;)

Sebastion would be great...also Vero Beach might be a bit easier for people further south

Just checking out the web for ideas and Sebastian does look kinda neat. They offer quite a bit of stuff ( including bunging jumping  ), beaches, riverboat rides, fishing.
Hey, Lorri,
Vero beach sounds good as well, but we don't want to make it TOO easy for the South Florida crowd ;)

Let do some research. What kind of place do we want? A day trip or a dinner and drinks? maybe both? Let me ask around and see what I can find.
I will also pm josh.

I am new to this site (not to P). I live in Ft. Laud. What goes on at these P functions? I would like to go, even if just for social support and to ask others about what treatments work for them. I don't know any other P sufferers.

Tara,
Welcome to the boards. I live in Delray which is not too far from you. I co-lead a support group that meets once a month (the 3rd Saturday of the month) at Delray Medical Center. We'd love for you to join us. Send me a PM and we can discuss it further if you're interested. It's more of an educational type group rather than social. However, having a get together such as the one we're trying to plan here, is always a blast. It's great to meet others who know exactly how you feel. It's nice to get to know people on a personal level as well. I sure hope you decide to join us.

Vero beach has an outlet mall for those that are interested in Shopping! Sebastian has lots of boating related stuff. That's about all I know about it. Both are great for me. ;)

any suggestions? We could always see how many people we have and charter a offshore fishing boat for half a day. It is just bottom fishing on a reef usually.

Dennis - I agree with Krista, this is a GREAT idea. How fun would it be for all of us to charter a boat and do some fishing?!?! Now that's what I call a true Florida style gathering. :D
Any ideas where we can charter a boat off of Sebastian or Vero Beach possibly? I'll see what I can find and let ya'll know.

After doing a brief search, I came up with the following link:
Sebastian Area Charters
This page brings up a whole list of places. I clicked on each of the "fishing charters". It appears that only a few will take more than 2-3 passengers. There is one, Rivertime Charters, that offers charters for $25 per person. I haven't called any of the locations yet.
I think we should get a better idea of how many people would be interested in this type of gathering before making any definitive plans.

I love the idea!! There's usually something called a 'head boat' lurking in a fishing marina that takes a whole bunch people out at a reasonable rate ( i.e. those on a budget who can't afford $ 800.00 for a yacht with captain and mate).
Of course, the minute I started this thread, I got busy with preparing to go back to school and planning my first support group meeting in September. I don't have that much time to investigate the details, but count me in !

Sounds like a good plan!
Lots of people do fishing trips from Sebastion. More than likely I'll be there!

Heck NO, you don't have to be from FL!!! We'd LOVE to have you join us. Keep checking this thread for when and where and plan on getting together with us. Can't wait to meet you.

I know there is a couple of heads out of Ft. Pierce. One is the lady stuart II.
I dont about the ones out of sebestion. We jut have to check the weather and pick a good weekend for some bottom fishing. I will check the rates out of Ft. Pierce area.

Dennis brought up a good point, if we're planning a fishing/water day, the whole plan could go bust if we get a rainy day ( hey, I'm delicate, I'm like sugar and melt when I get wet  ).
Jen's link took me to a place called Capt. Hiram's which looks like a large restaurant/resort kinda place that also has a marina and boat rentals. They have entertainment and from the pictures ( hell, those can be so deceiving ;) ), they also look like they're on the water.
I was thinking maybe this could be a place for people to meet up for lunch and then those that want to get out on the water can do so in the afternoon and those that want to hang at the resort can listen to music and chill.
Just throwing out some ideas here.........
