Question:
I just got home from a trip to NYC to see my baby gig and I noticed immediately that something was not quite right when I arrived home...it wasn't the cops running up and down my lil street with K9 dogs or detectives going door to door looking for 4 kids who did god only knows what...
I was sore, tired and a lil out of sorts after a long ride and for some reason put my hand to my neck and noticed IT'S GONE.... no not my psoriasis, not my pa...a metal that someone had given me well over a year ago, closer to two years. I've never taken it off. :( and it's gone. It has great sentimental value, beyond words.
I'm hoping it's on the floor at my daughters apt and her dog didn't eat it or it's not laying on the streets of NYC getting stepped on by thousands of strangers...
I can't sleep. My left hip is killing me. My metal is missing.
Did you ever lose anything that can't be duplicated?
* sigh *
I'm so sorry that your evening didn't end too well...
oh wow...so sweet of you to go to Jeannine's gig in NYC but come home to be in pain and lose something so dear to you! :(
I hope it's at her apartment or you find it very soon!
aloha girl,
Abby
:o
Oh, Karen, yes I have and I am just soooooo sorry. I know how you feel. About 17-18 years ago I worked with a girl who was married to a minister. Her father and father-in-law were also ministers. She had this absolutely beautful Jerusalem cross. Very different in shape. Anyway, I loved it. She told me the story of her dad going to the Holy Land and he brought it back for her. I absolutely loved it and told my DH about it. (Who knew he actually listened to me?? :) ) About a year after that my DH was supposed to make a business trip to Jerusalem. At thd last minute the company sent somebody else. My DH had contacted the girl I worked with, photocopied her cross and gave his co-worker $$$$ to find and buy me one when he was in Jerusalem. This was all a surprise to me and made that cross just so important to me.
Anyway, I absolutely ADORED that cross and wore it every day. One day at work I noticed it was GONE! I had folks crawling on hands and knees through 3 floors of our building. I even went up and down the cobblestone sidewalks in front of our buildng. Never found it. It absolutely broke my heart.
So, yes, Karen, I do know how you feel. Wish I could cheer you up. It's hard to lose something that's so important to us.
Nancy
Karen,
I'm so sorry to hear you've lost your medal. I know how important that was to you. Let's hope your daughter finds it at her apartment.
Take care,
Sandy
Karen,
I'm sorry. I hope you or your daughter finds it.
Polly
Hi,
Thanks for all your kind words.
I called my daughter at 2 a.m.....she was giving bitey betty a bath after she ate a pen & was wearing ink..I asked her to look around again. She called this afternoon ~ no go. :( Betty eats everything ( including people still, errr sorry Mike ) and I am now hoping that she did eat it....at least I know I could get it back.
Anyone who knows me knows I'm not a deeply religious person, far from it, as a matter of fact I'm pretty sure I'm going somewhere in a handbasket when the time comes. But, it gave me comfort, it was blessed by the church from where it originated and also by a childhood friend who became a priest last year while everyone in Boston was running away from the Catholic church he was running towards it.
So, If anyone happens to be on the corner of Chrystie and Hester St in NYC or south station in beantown or the red line, please look down and if you see something shiney....please either wear it in good health or send it back.
Nancy, thanks for your story. Some of the good people here made me feel a lil better by saying perhaps the person who found it needed it more than I, I hope the same for your special necklace.
Karen
Karen,
I'm so sorry you lost your medal. It is hard losiong things that are very dear to us. I hope that you find it soon!
x0x
Dee
Karen, perhaps it will turn up someday when you least expect to find it. Don't get mad at me (I'm sure you probably already thought of this one), but you don't think it caught on the inside of what you were wearing, do you, and perhaps it just MIGHT be in your laundry??? Silly, I know, but leave no stone unturned. You're right...after losing my cross (I even checked the papers daily for weeks, hoping somebody found it) I got to thinking....hmmmm....perhaps somebody who needed it more than I did is now wearing it. Of course, I don't ALWAYS think of that.....so, dear Karen, can I book the vacant seat on your "handbasket" to you know where?? :D
Take care and try not to make yourself too sick over it. The true "importance" of your medal will always be where it can never be lost or misplaced: right there in your HEART...
Nancy
hi karen,
im sorry to here that. i hope you can find it some were. i wish you the best my friend
try and have a good night all
richard
Praying to Saint Anthony always helps me find lost things...
Sorry, sweet K. :(
Karen, hope your item shows up soon. But you asked if we ever lost anything that can't be duplicated. UHHHHHH Yes. My FROG.!!!!! Maybe he'll find that medal and we'll both get our lost items back.
Thanks again, gang :) . I'm okay now even tho I still dont have my medal.
I've searched high and low and had called the transportation company that I went with to the city. I kept hoping that bitey betty ate it, but I think it would have appeared by now. She has a tendency to hide things under my daughters bed so I asked her to crawl under it but she didn't find it. So I am going to have to let go.
Nancy I felt a huge weight come off of me with your comment about it being in my heart. You're absolutely right. Thanks so very much for that.
Ginger, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but your frog has been cloned. There are many replica's of him now and we're not even sure anymore which one is the real Traveling Frog, I hope he is wearing my medal tho. :)
Stay cool all. Rich, stay out of the fridge lol.
karen,
Sorry to hear about your medal. I hope it will turn up soon.
robert
Are y'all still watching "Bitey Betty"?
Seriously, I know how you feel having left my fanny pack on the floor of a restaurant while traveling and losing my $2000. in cash. I know, I know....that was NOT a good comparison.....I am truly sorry.
I do have a cross of my Mom's I just brought home and wore it for a couple of days...then noticed I had lost a small diamond in it. Continued to wear it and noticed a second one out so I took it off. Found the first one in my bed and if I had gone ahead and took it off I would have not lost the second. The only saving grace is I can't VACUUM for fear of sucking it up. :D
There are just some things that are so special, Karen and Nancy. When you have that great loss it just hits you in the pit of your stomach. Only time lessens the sorrow and pain (and it really does get physical). Hugs to you.
Juanita
hi karen,
sorry that you didn't find it and the fridge is so cool :D :D :D and i see they have a road named after me in ny. see i can make some thing of my self
have a great time in portland
richard
As some of you may know, I am back in the big apple due to my DD being seriously ill and hospitialized with another auto-immune disease, gotta love the gene pool...
My sincerest thanks & love to each and every one of you for the kind words, good thoughts, support, knowledge, offers of help, cool heads ( what was I thinking stevieb? ) and calming, reassuring ways. I seriously would have lost my mind if not for your all being here for me.
Getting a phone call and being many states away on vacation was not something I would ever imagining happening, especially with her just leaving the day before and being perfectly fine...cripes, don't forget to hug your loved ones today and tell them how much they mean to you.
She was released last night and I'm staying here until I know she's out of the woods. In other words, I'm moving in and living with her forever lol. Errr, ummmm. just don't tell her BF lol..
I thank my lucky stars for her doctors who helped her pull thru this recent episode and may it never happen again.
Anyway, Her boyfriend set up the folding bed last night and LO AND BEHOLD! There in the middle of the bed sat my medal! It's safely back on my neck and I honestly cannot even believe this!!
Talk about devine interevention!!!!
My dear friend who had orig given me this very special medal sent me 4 more, well guess who else will be wearing one from now on.....
Please keep my DD in your good thoughts and send healing vibes.
Karen
p.s. another sidebar ( last one I promise ) lol Her sweet roomate was around 95 years old and when admitted would only say " Brooklyn " no matter what question she was asked, she too got better and as we were leaving yesterday she said she wanted to tell us something....and she said " whatever you do in life, be kind, always love and don't go unless your ready "...
1 Attachment(s) Karen,
Glad to here that dd is home now. That is great that you found your medal.
Polly
Oh Karen, I'm having an emotional day anyway but reading your post has me misty eyed. I'm so happy to hear your medal has been found. You said it, it's definitely devine intervention. I'm glad to hear your DD is doing better as well. I don't blame you for wanting to stay with her. You both will continue to stay in my thoughts and prayers.
God bless that little ole lady. What a powerful statement she left you with.
Be well my dear,
Jen ;)
Oh, Karen, I love stories with happy endings!!
You got me sniffling a bit as well and my day hasn't even been emotional.

Oh wow, dear Karen!
Thoughts and prayers for you and your daughter!!!!
Awwwww, dearest K ...

Although I knew, of course, your daughter has been ill, somehow I had missed this thread about your "lost" medal. (What can I say?? I've been moving, y'all!!)
My initial thoughts as I started reading from your first post mirrored Nancy's -- that is, that this "medal" was far more than an actual, tangible "thing" that you can see & feel; rather, IT'S THERE WITH YOU, IN YOUR HEART, ALWAYS.
But, as I continued reading and witnessed how the story evolved, I believe it's far, far more ...
I just got home from a trip to NYC to see my baby ... and I noticed immediately that something was not quite right when I arrived home ...
... great sentimental value, beyond words.

Okay, okay ... so you're not a "religious" person ... well, heck, I'm not, either, though I AM a person of faith. Could it be that maybe -- just maybe -- someOne, somewhere, was trying to tell you something?? How amazing is it the very thing you were "missing" was right THERE, with your daughter??
As far as how long your present stay is, well, the little ol' lady took the words right outta my mouth:
... "don't go unless your ready"...
Wishing your baby girl well,
Karen,
I am very happy to hear that you found your precious medal, :) and sorry to hear that your daughter is feeling poorly :( Best wishes and prayers are headed to the Big Apple for a speedy and complete recovery.
So glad about the medal that is an amazing story *BIG THROAT LUMP*
Wrapping my arms (mentally) *giggle* around you and Jeanine
