...just returned from the hospital E.R.
Question:

I have a kidney stone and it hurts like a freakin' bugger!
Woke up 5 A.M. today, took a whiz and wham! ..instant pain. I was rolling on the bathroom floor with the pain in my lower stomach-to-groin area. My father rushed me to the hospital ER at 6 A.M.
After a CAT scan, urine sample, blood tests, etc. the Doc. confirmed it is a kidney stone. They "juiced" me up with some pain killer in the hospital and sent me home with a prescription of percocet :D and a plastic urine screener thing.
So now I'm drinking gallons of water waiting for this rock to pass. The CAT scan showed it sitting in my bladder and heading south on Urethra Blvd.
My wife wants to trade me in for a new model. She thinks she got a lemon. ;) Do we have any other members of the Kidney Stone Society?

I literally LOL'd when I read that. Not just figuritively speaking, but literally.
Nice to see you've maintained a good sense of humor during this.
Fortunately, I have not experienced the excruciating pain from any type of stone. No gall stones. No kidney stones. There is that big one in my head though.
I do work with an engineer who is about my age, maybe a year or so older, who recently suffered through the ordeal of kidney stones. He said it was absolutely THEE worst pain he had ever experienced in his life. He said that being shot with a gun would probably be less painful.
Remind your wife that if life gave her a lemon, she can make..........some chocolate chip cookies and then go shopping for some new shoes. That usually does the trick. Just kiddin'
Good luck to you. I hope it all "works out."

At least you're laughing about it. I have done a few bouts with the stones, but mine hit road blocks , and had to have a stent put in once. I had Lithotripsy, which blows them up, twice, and I still have several more small ones that are lurking or growing. Its no picnic thats for sure. Hang in there. I hope it passes fast.

I've been getting these dang things for about 20 years now.....they just keep coming and coming....right now have either 2 or 3 in my right kidney....just sitting there, waiting to ambush me.....
Last month I underwent a "procedure" to eliminate 3 from my left kidney.....the operation is easy....they put you under. It's afterward that it's no fun - it takes about a week before the pain subsides and you can pee without flinching....
NO FUN AT ALL!!
It could be worse though.....unfortunately I can't think of how....
Pass it if you can....you don't want to go back to the ER....trust me on this one....

Torba,
You can tell your wife that she doesn't need to trade you in. I am the wife of a guy who was healthy when we got married. In about three months after marriage he was complaining about a pain in the abdomen. At 8:00 on a Saturday night I took him to the ER. He was diagnosed with kidney stones and soon after had a lithotripsy where they break up the stones with sound waves. This was not what I expected for a date three months after we got married. He had to do litho again and then I had to deal with him when they took a stent out as well.
I hope that it passes easily. If you don't have kids yet, you will be super sympathetic to your wife when she is in labor.

Thank you all for the comments and advice. So far, no luck on passing the stone. If it's not passed by Wednesday I need to follow up with another CAT scan and see where the little bugger is hiding.
Shana,
I can certainly understand a fraction of the pain my wife went through, as she endured 4 pregnancies. The last one being twins!

Yikes Bob! Sorry to hear you're trying to pass a rock. I've heard that it's worse than childbirth. (Worse than childbirth with pitocin and a failed epidural? Hmmm...)
How's your guttate these days? Hopefully you're not dealing with both right now!

No Jenn, take it from experience, the induced labor with a failed epidural is worse.

Umm, well I have to say, I unfortunately know exactly what you are going through. I have been to the ER 3 times with kidney stones!! very painful!!
After gettin IV fluids to subside the pain and doing CAT scans to find out where they lie and how many, I too was sent home with a percocet Rx, and a screen,. Which I never used by the way. They say if you can catch it when it passes, they will be able to find out what is causing it. Mostly they are composed of calcium, and I often hear that alot of soda drinking can sometimes be the culprit, but I dont drink soda, and after doing some of my own research. I read that one of the topical medications I was on for my P, had high doses of calcium, so I began to wonder if there was any correlation.
Have you been using any topical steriods? Or are you just a heavy soda drinker? Either way, I hope you pass them painlessly. I still have about 3 or 4 stones in each kidney, just waiting.
Best of luck, I know that experience is no picnic.
If it makes you feel any better, I have usually been to drugged up to feel them pass, so that was a good thing!
take care
