I have to tell you a funny one!!!!!!!
Question:

So...after my wonderful day with MikeK in JC,NJ, and my great visit with Lahita, I had to go visit my Mother. My Mom fell a week ago in her new Senior Citizen apt, and broke her foot. She was transferred to a rehab (short term) for two weeks.
Being the Downtown Jersey City girl I am I went straight for where "I thought" she was, Saint Francis Hospital, but when I drove past it, it was all boarded up, so ....then I said, well my mind is going to h*ll in a bucket again with this PA. I stopped and asked someone on the street, and they told me to go to the "Hamilton Park center on 9th and Monmouth.
Ok, I grew up on the very street in front of that (literally) so there I went. Parked in the handicapped, and went in. There was no one at the desk, and there were seniors eating in a dining room, so I walked with my cane to the dining rm, and the lady seated to my right says "sit down honey, they are bnringing our dinna right now". Scared the u know what out of me, so I quickly realized I was in the 'Nursing home" and they thought I was a patient!
So I call my sister on the cell and I ask "where is Mommy, I can't find her-to which she quickly replies "well, Elaine she is a rather large woman I doubt very much that they lost her".....
So I look around and I see a Dialysis unit attached to the Nursing Home. I go in, and I say to the guy at the desk....I lost my mother, you have her and I want her".....and he busts a gut (by this time Im exhausted-no one told me I should park on the Monmouth St side because that is where the rehab entrance is. He laughs and walks me through some doors to an elevator. Says take the elevaotr to the 4th floor. i do. when I got off a nurse came over and asked me if I wanted the wheelchair to get back to my room! (Now I want to run out, Im scared to death someone is gonna sign me in this place). I ask if they have a patient by the name of blah blah blah. She speaks very broken English and cannot pronounce my mom's name and she's yelling it now. One of the other patient's with Dementia come's over and says that that's his wife.....NOW WE ARE ALL CONFUSED (especially since I don't remember my mother remarrying).
FINALLY...she's on the 5th floor. Ok up one more fllor. I get off the elevator and the nurses aide says..."Oh Myra, look we got a new patient, honey stay right here until we get your doctors orders". Welll.....by this time Im convinced they are gonna keep me, so I start literally running and hopping to my mother's room as fast as I can without my knees going out (You getting this mental picture yet?)
My mother, laying in that bed, laughed so hard that she wet the bed and we had to call the nurse, but this time when the nurse came I ran in the bathroom! Now...seeing as I have to go back there tomorrow...Im leaving the damn cane home, and I will do my best to walk as if I was 10 years old again!
So janelee...now what do ya think? Have I lost it or have I lost it? I hope this makes everyone laugh as loud as my husband, sons, and my mother did. it's a good thing she only had a cast and not sutures!

OMG! That's hysterical.
I knew that they were converting St. Francis into condos, but I had no idea that they closed the rehab unit already. (My dad spent several weeks there after his surgery in 2002.) Now I understand why a friend of my mother went to Hamilton Park when she broke her hip a couple of months ago. Even though they act like the don't know what they're doing, mom's friend got excellent care while she was there. I hope and pray that your mom has a complete and speedy recovery.
