Question:
Heres a Bible verse containing the words of Jesus Christ.
"He replied, "Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."
My specific interrest in the verse would be the fact that if you could move a mountain by faith do you not think you could heal psoriasis by faith alone?
I often wish that I could have witnessed some of the miracles done by Jesus. These miracles are well documented in History. In fact, his healing of skin disease is specifically mentioned in the Bible.
Anyway, hard to give you any scientific proof on this one, I guess you just might have to have faith in it for it to work. But then, we never will get to the innermost secrets of life, they are out of our reach no matter how smart we think we get.
I just read that verse recently and thought it would be a good boost for those of us with a religious belief and or interrest. Sometimes our inner peace is just as useful as the dissapearance of a skin legion in the big picture. Have a good day everyone!
FAITH CAN MOVE MOUNTAINS. I learned a long time ago that "FAITH IS THE ART OF BELIEVING IN THINGS WE CANNOT SEE"....emphasis on art of believing.
I do believe that faith has gotten me through alot with this disease. An example would be that I was misdiagnosed for twelve years, and knew it, but had faith that sometime I would find the answers, and that it wasn't "all in my head", and that I was actually sick.
Faith gets me through even now, believing that they wil find the right drug to put my disease into remission, and I will once again be fully functional.
Faith allows me to believe that somewhere, somehow, someday there will be a cure for this.
When I say Im spiritual and not religious I mean I believe in a God "of my understanding", and I cannot believe that God would have brought any of us all this way to drop us on our heads now!
Without faith, we don't have hope. Without hope, we have nothing. Good thread.
Placebo effect definition: The beneficial effect in a patient following a particular treatment that arises from the patient's expectations concerning the treatment rather than from the treatment itself.
I find it extremely interresting that Placebo still is included and actually measured in scientific studies. I really have no idea why they do it when placebo really has no scientific merit with the exception that it can be measured but not fully explained.
As for faith, you can sum it up on a thousand different levels, yet our science cannot put a finger on it.
As far as using it in conjunction with any particular treatment regimine I do believe that it has extreme merit. Just putting hope and faith in your treatment regimine may bring you better results, regardless of the method you are using, lights, biologic, homeopathy, steroids, diet, etc...
Some of the problem with our system of treatment, especially with psoriasis, I believe just pushing the THERE IS NO CURE FOR PSORIASIS can actually have a negative effect on some individuals. Instead of having faith in getting help for their condition, they focus on the fact that it will never be cured and they are doomed to this skin problem. When their meds don't work they continue their spiral into psoriatic doom and they falter in their faith.
Good post IHURT, just posting what you did should bolster your faith in yourself and the power you inheritly have....Faith just might be geneticly based too.
What I find amazing is the power in a name, it also helps my faith to grow. I am entirely convinced that there is a lot more to this condition than science and drugs alone.
To me it is the ultimate alternative therapy. It's absolutely free, in fact you cannot buy it. You don't need insurance coverage to afford it. And it's equally available to everyone....problem is....YOU have to find it. The fountain of youth is in your soul/spirit.
Anyone have an opinion on where the human spirit resides in the anatomy? Has it's location been scientifically proven?
An interesting question. Now I am not a religious person, I have not been in a church since I was very young. Even now I have not really made up my mind on the whole thing.
I would say he was just using an illustration to make the point that if you 'believe you can then you will.' He just used a small object that they would know and compared it to a bigger one.
Look at Mathew 19:24 - "Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." Now it’s impossible to get a camel through the eye of a needle, but I don't think that he was saying it was impossible for rich people to get into the kingdom of God. It would just prove very difficult. (As a rich person would tend to be more content or more focused on there wealth then other things. or I would guess)
It would also depend on what your believe faith to be. If you read chapter 11 of the book of Hebrews it gives a definition and examples of faith by people. I would say that faith is not believe that you can (or God can) but that you will (or God will).
Reminds me of something I heard once regarding a man that was standing on a hill and a flood was coming. They told him to leave that flood waters where coming. but the man replied "I have faith that god will save me" and so he stayed and the flood waters started to raise when it got knee deep another group came and said "you need to get out now" but the man replied "I have faith that god will save me" and stayed. The water was now waist deep and they came in a rescue boat and said “Get in now or you will die" and the man replied "I have faith that god will save me" and stayed. The water is now neck deep and a rescue helicopter comes and drops him a line. But the man refused to take the line so the helicopter leaves him. He dies and goes to heaven there he asks god 'why he did not save him?' and god replies ' I sent rescuers on foot, by boat and by Helicopter. What more did you want?’
As far as believing that faith or wanting god to heal your P I would look at Paul. here at 2 Corinthians 12:7-9 - 7.To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. 8. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. 9. But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.
Now the he used a term call "Thorn in my flesh" now all that means is he had some physical condition, bad back, limp, P maybe, no one knows just that he asked that it be taken away from him and it was not. Now I would say that Paul had plenty of Faith in the lord it just didn’t happen the way he wanted it too. Or at least how I see it, again I am not a religious person just how I read that passage when I got to it.
As I said earlier about believe someone can instead of will. I would use the example if an acrobat. Let say you have seen this guy work for years hundreds of feet above with no net. You have seen him do many tricks and are very impressed by him. You know he is not going to fall you seen him do it many time's. He has one trick that you really like he walks a tight rope with a wheel barrel full of bricks about 250lbs in it. And you have seen him walk it across many times. Let’s say at some point he asked you to get in the wheel barrel and have him walk you across. Now you seen him do it you probably have faith that he can, but do you have enough to get in yourself?
I often find that positive thinking is a thin layer that is rapped around a large bit of doubt. Is that bad or wrong? No, its human nature.
And lastly I would say you need to do something with that faith you have. That passage I mentioned in Hebrews is about people who did things by faith but they didn’t stand around and say I believe they did things or set up to accomplish goals that seemed extreme. Remember the passage in James 2:26 - "For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead." So if you’re not going you have works or deeds behind the faith it is dead or useless.
So Do I believe that? Yes, maybe not in the way you are thinking. But in principal I do. And I believe a lot here do too. If they didn't then I doubt that over 100 people would have gone to Capital Hill this past February and made there voices heard to the U.S government. And you know what we have had small successes, Nothing major as of yet, but we have resolutions passing and raising awareness. If a small group of everyday people can start to get the goverment to move. If you don't call that a mustard seed moving a mountain then I don’t know what is.
-Fox
Beautifully said David. I believe faith "carries" us through so much. However, I am reluctant to think that faith "cures" us of much. I knew someone who had such faith in herself and God that she was determined she would not succumb to lung/brain cancer. Her faith in God and actions were plentiful before her diagnosis so it wasn't a matter of "jumping aboard for a cure". She was 45 when she died. And she never lost her faith throughout the whole ordeal. She is my sister Joanne. Is? Oh, yes, she's with me all the time.
XOXO

FAITH:
Main Entry:
Function: transitive verb
: BELIEVE , TRUST
I always have had it, I will always keep it. Just like Papi ;) .
I believe in better treatments & advocating for a cure. I have great trust in my doctors who have my best interested at heart. Is that not faith?
Karen :)

Karen, I'm not questioning your faith, just wondering if we all have enough. Jesus said that even a small amount of faith can move mountains...yet our faith cannot heal psoriasis (or can it?)...which do you think is a bigger task? Move a mountain or heal psoriasis?
I guess it also depends upon where your faith is. Is your faith in yourself or are you entirely dependant on others?
However, I am reluctant to think that faith "cures" us of much.
All you need is the faith of a mustard seed Annie!
Great job in the Bible Fox, that is where you start. It is loaded with great information and is a great guide to living.
It also has other solutions to life problems, however, you need to be invited to take part in that. If you were to make it to that point you would begin to understand.
Continue reading the works of the Apostle Paul. He did great work for the church. I love his works and they have great application for today, just don't get thrown off by the circumcision stuff.
Anyway, I hope that you all can find great faith in yourselves, especially those who cannot afford the expensive treatments or for that matter afford the doctor visits. Life is not all about money, if you're chasing money you are on the wrong path for sure. Put some faith in yourself and you can move mountains and I have faith that you can heal psoriasis with faith, just gotta have enough of it!
I have faith in that seed Brad, faith to carry us. I don't think God is promising cures here on earth, but rather strength to endure. I think the cure comes later, if you get my drift. ;)
XOXO
Annie
Nevertheless, I like this thread.
Brad,
My faith lies within belief, trust & hope.
Of course I have faith in myself first and foremost. I have faith in my family, my friends, my doctors, researchers, medications, red sox, :p etc.
Do I think faith could cure psoriasis?
Yes I do, because of the faith I hold within myself and the above mentioned. Could I rely on faith alone to cure me.....well if you can understand my idea of faith then yes.
If your talking about " religious " faith, that's personal and different for everyone. And I don't care what religion one subscribes to or if they don't at all. Not my business. ;)
Altho I think Fox nailed my thoughts as far as the " verse " regarding the mountain & advocacy perfectly, great analogy!
And Elaine " Without faith, we don't have hope. Without hope, we have nothing.
Keep the faith! Always!
Karen :)
a lot of people don't have faith in faith itself. For instance, how can one have faith in something when to begin with the system doesn't have faith in faith itself?
It's easy for one to say "I have faith in something" but doing is another thing.
In the US, marriage for one is a good indicator of the amount of faith a number of us have. Many are not "faithful", not to mention a 50% divorce rate. Don't most of us have faith in a marriage when we walk down the aisle? Yet half of them fail.
I think there are many hazzards and hurdles that one who might have faith in something must hurdle in order to realize the amount of faith necessary to move mountains or obtain enough faith to reach the equivalent of the amount of faith that a mustard seed has.
Faith itself is not even recognized as a viable treatment by the experts...they have no faith in it. How can you have faith in something when you have no faith at all to begin with? It is certainly an interresting concept. If our minds cannot conceive it, explain it, formulate it, or scientifically test it we have no faith in it.
It's certainly an interresting concept and I also believe that those who are healed by faith alone are likely to keep it secret. They might like to show the others their success, however, I believe that the people without faith will do everything in their power to disprove, discredit, and throw out any positive faith based results. This is naturally due to the fact that these individuals do not have faith to begin with, thus, it would be impossible for faith to be of any use to them.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that if you really don't have faith in yourself don't bother looking to faith for a fix. On the other hand, if you can find faith in yourself, even if it's just a little bit, you never do know what you can accomplish. Just remember, saying you have faith is one thing but having faith is another. Only you know the amount of faith you have or want.
I have faith in red sox
Karen,
And this statement explains all the flaws in your faith.... :D You picked the wrong color of sox. ;)
Have a great day!
allie REALLY CUTE!!!!!!!!!!
gave me a really good laugh! I would tell you both you picked the wrong color of sox!
You need Indians feathers that is what will help you with your faith!
Just a little laugh! lol
Ladies,
Down here in Florida we use fish for faith.
Thanks for the laugh!

Alli,
Just to tell you how much faith I have, I have faith in the Panthers! Having faith in the Panthers is a harder sell than faith in g-d...! :D

L :D L well....all I can say is PAPI always kept the faith and got us to the World Series.... :D . 86 years was a LONG time, I hope its not another 86 years!
There is a billboard on the highway in Boston with PAPI with his great big smile and under it says " Keepin' the Faith "... ;) and somehow it ended up under my screen name. Imagine that :p
Chaim, um..er..I don't know how to tell you this but thats a HOCKEY team lol.

Don't worry Karen, I am familiar with the sport. It's easy to believe in a Florida baseball team or a Florida football team, but hockey!?!?!?!
Now curling, what the heck is that??? I see it as shuffleboard on ice with a giant tooth brush.
Brad, relax, we have faith.
Annie, I have never been more relaxed in my life . I run everyday now, getting my moneys worth at the health club instead of spending it on cheap cigarettes, buffets, and booze. It's been a very good experience, like a great high without a drug.
I'm glad we have faith, assuming that we would mean you and the rest of the world.
My original intention of this faith thread was to discuss it in relation to psoriasis for which I once was catagorized as severe, but fortunately, have lost my qualifications, which I believe in part is due to faith.
Unfortunately, it appears evident that a significant interrest of the message board community at least in relation to this thread, may find discussing faith in baseball teams to be more advantageous than it's potential for use in treating/healing/helping psoriasis.
Nonetheless, I guess it's as good as anyother treatment one might have for psoriasis. UV, Systemic, Biologic, Topical, etc...... Such a hopeless disease for some you know. For some it works, the others it doesn't. Take your pick, gamble your money on a month worth of a biologic or buy season tickets for your favorite baseball team....its all the same money, whatever works for one doesn't work for the other.
Keep up that faith Annie! :D :D :D :D :D
Chaim,
Good point. lol.
I have read before that sometimes a " hockey " game breaks out during baseball. It's snowing here today but my thoughts can't help but shift to the baseball season, maybe I should be thinking hockey heehee
Hummm curling, now there is an interesting sport, now if we see that in Florida...... :p
Brad,
Perhaps different members " faith " are as different than the " faith " you speak of? It's as different and individual as you and I are.
There are known cases of people flaring due to sporting events, perhaps it has to do with faith of a particular team(s). Who said that faith in sports team cannot be healing or detrimental for psoriasis, depending on the team that is. ;)
Glad that your " faith " has been instrumental in helping you clear along with your other life changes.
GO SOX! ( Allie, I didn't mention a color lol )
Karen :D
proverbs 29:9 actually, the entire chapter is a good one.
I do agree with you Karen, I don't think we are talking about the same faith. I think those that understand will appreciate what I have written. I also hope that their understanding may bring forth some comfort for their condition.

As Annie said... RELAX!!!
I think this is a great thread & the various other posts prove people are reading this, even if they (aka - ME) are not comfortable with openly discussing the topic at hand. Take comfort in the small stuff......

Always!

a lot of people don't have faith in faith itself.

I do agree with you Karen, I don't think we are talking about the same faith. I think those that understand will appreciate what I have written. I also hope that their understanding may bring forth some comfort for their condition.

I think this is a great thread & the various other posts prove people are reading this, even if they (aka - ME) are not comfortable with openly discussing the topic at hand. Take comfort in the small stuff......
