Jumping in
Question:

Hi I'm new, but have been suffering with the disease for about three years, I am on my third specialist, this one specialized in Psoriasis. I am very sick and getting worse by the day, if I had to guess I would say that 25% coverage and alot of swelling around my ankles and feet from the athritis. I could not get in to see this doctor until late March, any home remedies until I can see him?
Thanks

Hi Sue:
Welcome to the boards. I'm sorry you are having a hard time with both p and pa... perhaps it's time to demand an earlier appt. You should not wait so long for some relief. Hang in there and keep us posted.
Glad you found us,

Hi Sue, and welcome to the boards. I'm so sorry you're having a rough time with P/PA. Some ways you can try to make yourself a little more comfortable until your appointment: for the P, keep yourself moisturized as much as possible. Dried out P itches more and has greater chance of painful cracking. There are some very good anti-itch moisturizers you can get at any drug store. My personal favorite is Neutrogena Soothing Relief Anti-Itch Moisturizer. It has lidocaine in it and is fragrance free so it doesn't burn like some moisturizers can.
For the PA swelling in the ankles, try to keep your feet elevated as much as possible. You can try wrapping in ace bandages. Try ice and/or heat and see which feels better to you. Ice will help with swelling, but either can help with pain. You can also alternate between the ice and heat.
One of the symptoms of PA is fatigue. Overdoing and getting overtired can make you feel much worse. Try to get a good night's sleep and rest when you need it. It's easy to feel guilty about needing as much rest as we do, but you have a chronic disease. Your body will tell you when you're doing too much and you need to listen to it.
Some mild stretching exercises can help also. Go slow and listen to your body. If it hurts, ease up or stop. I do stretching of my achilles tendon and ankles while sitting and watching TV. Over time it really helps to keep me vertical. I notice a big difference if I forget to stretch a couple days in a row.
Hope these suggestions help you get through the next couple of months. And again, welcome to the boards!
Jody
