Question:
CHECK THIS OUT>>>>>"butter them up"!
Margarine was originally manufactured to fatten turkeys. When it killed
the turkeys, the people who had put all the money into the research
wanted a payback so they put their heads together to figure out what to
do with this product to get their money back. It was a white substance
with no food appeal so they added the yellow coloring and sold it to
people to use in place of butter. How do you like it? They have come out
with some clever new flavorings.
DO YOU KNOW...the difference between margarine and butter?
Read on to the end...gets very interesting!
Both have the same amount of calories.
Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at 8 grams compared to 5
grams.
Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating
the
same amount of butter, according to a recent Harvard Medical Study.
Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other
foods.
Butter has many nutritional benefits where margarine has a few only
because they are added!
Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can enhance the flavors
of other foods.
Butter has been around for centuries where margarine has been around for
less than 100 years.
And now, for Margarine..
Very high in trans fatty acids.
Triple risk of coronary heart disease.
Increases total cholesterol and LDL (this is the bad cholesterol) and
lowers HDL cholesterol, (the good cholesterol)
Increases the risk of cancers up to five fold.
Lowers quality of breast milk.
Decreases immune response.
Decreases insulin response.
And here's the most disturbing fact....
HERE IS THE PART THAT IS VERY INTERESTING!
Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC..
This fact alone was enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and
anything else that is hydrogenated (this means hydrogen is added,
changing
the molecular structure of the substance).
You can try this yourself:
Purchase a tub of margarine and leave it in your garage or shaded area.
Within a couple of days you will note a couple of things:
* no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (that
should
tell you something)
* it does not rot or smell differently because it has no nutritional
value;
nothing will grow on it
Even those teeny weenie microorganisms will not a find a home to grow.
Why?
Because it is nearly plastic. Would you melt your Tupperware and spread
that on your toast?
What do you prefer butter or margarine??????
Sorry I couldn't resist!
PARKAY
to be perfectly honest I use whatever the dw gets us. maybe shes trying to kill me. She watches all those court tv shows.
We don't use much of either one,,,,,,but PARKAY is usually in the fridge.
One of the first things my doctor asked me when I first went to her was: do you use butter or margarine?....another was are you or have you ever been on estrogen replacement therapy...there were more but those two stand out.....
I would never use margarine.....yuk!
Butter is better.............. :p
1 Attachment(s) I prefer butter............I hardly ever have margarine in my refrig.

Tim,,,,,what is EVO oil?
Maybe "KNOWITALL" will know :)
How about EXTRA VIRGIN OIL :D
SmartBalance all the way!!!
Tim,,,you mean to tell me when you have toast,,,you spread EVO on it,,,,oh dear.................... yuk
My older sister used to make her own spread using extra light virgin oil and butter (equal parts) then she would whip it up and use that....actually I forgot about that I think I'll try it....when you go to some very fancy Italian restaurants they serve Olive oil with herbs floating on top in a saucer, for the bread....that is delicious!
Tim,,,,,what is EVO oil?
Maybe "KNOWITALL" will know :)
Extra virgin olive oil :D
Yes I have used it on bread and toast, you can mix it with butter. I do use butter on popcorn..... :D
I'm confused here. Margarine was used to fatten turkeys?
My history book reads that margarine was invented in the 1860's/1870's by a Hippolyte Mege-Moutiez in response to Louis Napolleon 111 wanting a cheaper way to feed his lower classes and his armed forces.
What Arl has posted above is a story that circulated first in 2003.

I don"t use either product. One is artificial , the other full of animal fat.
low salt butter...
but I don't really use butter except to bake and when I have whole wheat toast I use very little butter.
:)
I use butter a lot ....I belong to another forum for coconut oil and a lot of them use coconut oil like butter....they have two kinds reg. or expeller which doesn't have the smell or taste of coconut...when I have that I use it for cooking....it really lowered my cholesterol...... :p
Sally,,,I also heard that,,, as soon as I get a large enough bottle ,,i'm going to start cooking with that...
Gran,,, why didn't KNOWITALL know that???? :D
Arl,,,because KNOWITALL does not KNOWITALL! Just most of it! :)
How do you like my pumpkins?
I think your pumpkins are so cute. I had to save them. :)
Thanks Arl, I threw out all of the margarine, and bought all butter. I sure dont want my family eating something thats almost plastic. Thanks for the info.
Patty :)
Gran,,,their cute ,,but please tell them take a break,,,sit them down,,,gosh their active little buggers.... wait till I turn them into pumpkin pie,,,, :D
Patty,,,that's good,,,and your welcome...Hey it's a food for thought,,,that's what I believe.... Now can you excuse me I must go and churn more butter..... :D
How about vaseline? ;)
Al,,, :D :D ,vaseline would probably be better for us than margarine. I looked on my margarine container last night. It has phosphoric acid in it,,,,so out it goes! Read about what this stuff is used for and they want us to eat it! It is in soft drinks and a lot of things. Seems like if a person eats alittle bit here and there, that it would affects us eventually.
I would rather have the animal fat in butter than a chemical like this. It's no wonder that so many people are sick.
Chronic Toxicity Summary
Inhalation reference exposure level 7 μg/m3
Critical effect(s) Bronchiolar fibrosis of the respiratory tract in
rats
Hazard index target(s) Respiratory system
III. Major Uses and Sources
Phosphoric acid has varied uses (HSDB, 1995). In manufacturing, it is a chemical intermediate
or reagent in the production of numerous phosphate fertilizers, agricultural feeds, waxes,
polishes, soaps, and detergents. It is added to foods as a preservative, acidifying agent, flavor
enhancer, and clarifying agent. Phosphoric acid is also used in processes such as the coagulation
of rubber latex, electropolishing, soil stabilization, and as a catalyst in the production of
propylene and butene polymers, ethylbenzene, and cumene. By far, largest use of phosphoric
acid comes in the production of fertilizers (>75%). The annual statewide industrial emissions
from facilities reporting under the Air Toxics Hot Spots Act in California, based on the most
recent inventory, were estimated to be 81,103 pounds of phosphoric acid (CARB, 1999).
Airborne phosphoric acid can be produced by the hydrolysis of phosphorus oxides generated
from either the spontaneous ignition of white phosphorus in air or the combustion of red
phosphorus (Burton et al., 1982; US Department of Defense (US DOD), 1981).
Arl,,,,my pumpkins are hyper-active,,,,,,I have to take away their sugar and chemicals!
Salted Butter always better. Taste and it natural. There is no ubstitue for it.
