Goodbye To Hotel Rosey
Question:

Well the time has finally come. Hotel ROSEY is going on the market. It is officially for sale! It should be posted in about a week. I met with an agent, signed a contract and the process has begun.
It is going to very hard parting ways with this wonderful old house. It was built around the 1900’s and like many old home it was build to last forever. It is a house that has served my family and myself well. My grandfather bought it in 1955 his third home in Englewood. Each one of his homes were bigger and better. The other two houses are still standing and thieving.
I still remember as a kid coming out to Englewood from Brooklyn via train and bus to visit my grandparents and my aunts. In 1955 it was still safe to travel the NY subways by myself even thought I was only eight. Occasionally I would even get off at bridge plaza at the foot of the George Washington Bridge and walk across the bridge and then on to Englewood. It is about a 5-mile walk. Now I just get tired driving that distance.
The apartment downstairs was once a doctor office. It became home to Carol and me for 25 years before inheriting the house and moving upstairs. It is in the city where my son was born and the community where both my kids were educated. It was also the place where the good citizens of Englewood elected me to four terms on the Englewood City council. And over the 14 years on the council we were able to bring about the renisance that is taking place today. My last official act as council president before I left was to establish the project that are trying up the cit today which will eventually make Englewood a better and more beautiful place to live, work and play in.
One of the things that my grandfather love about Hotel Rosey was the upstairs porch which allow my grandmother to sit outside even though she could no longer go down the steps. We have spent many evening out there watching the city pass by. It has now become the haven to those smokers who visit Hotel Rosy and are banished to the outside.
Hotel Rosy has been a place for many relatives and friends who have come to the NYC area to visit.. We have enjoyed all their company and it was our joy in hosting them all. In particular were my friends who I met from the NPF. From Bella, Dave, Jodie, Abbey, Rich, Kim and I hope I haven’t left anyone out its was our pleasure to have you guys in our home.
Now its time for Carol, Patches and I to move on to the next chapter in our lives. Although Hotel Rosey will be closing in New Jersey, I am looking forward to many guests at our new home, location to be determined (not yet purchased) but it will be in the Phoenix area. We are excited and scared. We will be leaving behind our kids and friends. As my son Alex put it so well. “Dad you have planted the seeds and given us direction it now time for you two to enjoy life”. We are so blessed that they are self reliant and independant.
I will keep you posted on when we sell Hotel Rosy. I hope when plans are finalized that we will have one big New Jersey / New York blast as a sendoff. Don’t know how long this process will take but we are ready.

Mitch,
Alex is right....but ... :( . There goes my lil Sunday mini-vacations..sorry being selfish there for a min..lol. We will just have to take longer vaca's.
I wish you and Carol all my best selling the house and moving on to life part II, it will be a great adventure. A place to start new memories. I've never been to Arizona, so I guess this will give me the opportunity to see it...I can do a tour like the traveling frog and visit Annie and Donna as well.

Waiting for the big send-off party, should be memorable, maybe I will even get DH to NYC! lol...or CT for a mini party would probably be more his style...oh wait, we can have a party in 10 days ;) !
Love ya,
Karen

Mitch and Carol part deux!
Now this sounds like an adventure!
I sense the lobbyists painting a bulls eye on Phoenix as a target for an upcoming NPF conference, and I am also looking forward to a proper NYC sendoff in the near future.
It does not matter where you move Mitch, NJ will always be home.

I know it must be difficult for Carol and you to think about leaving a home with such fond memories. Good people always find good friends wherever they are. Arizona is a great place and I believe you and Carol will have a good life there. Please keep us informed about you progress. Just think, you will be that much closer to Portland for next year's conference. Cheryl

Wow, this is making me really sad. :( I feel so privileged now that I was able to have a nice, albeit brief tour of Hotel Rosey.
I wish you, Carol and Patches all the best in Phoenix.

I had such a good time staying at Hotel Rosey...you two are wonderful wonderful wonderul hosts!!! Thank you so much for the great nickel and dime tour of Englewood...the residents there will surely miss you!! I got such a nice vibe driving around in this town, you should be proud of all that you did on city council Mitch...very proud.
And Patches??? awww...how much fun did I have with this dog?? :p
I think he will have a great time wherever the two of you decide to go!
and the upstairs porch? I was out there every night! Not to smoke, but to talk on my cell phone and just people watch...it was great..
Good luck to the three of you as you venture on to your next endeavor! If you have a farewell party in New Jersey I will DEFINITELY try to make it!
See you two in California real soon!
with love and aloha,
Abby

Having been an honored guest of the infamous Hotel Rosey, it will be sad to think of finding alternate accommodations when I visit, but the best part is the wonderful hosts and their canine mascot will be that much closer to me!

Hey Guys thanks for the knid words. I have just started the process and it hasn't hit the listings yet. Hopefully by the middle of next week.
We are all looking forward to the move but till everything is settled there is a great deal of stress and anticipation. Coarl has been after me to move for the past 35 years. But now with all out family obligations behind us we are ready to move tothe next stage of our development. Both of us plan to find work in Arizona but are in no rush. The most excited one of all is Patches. There are many dog runs through out the arear we are lookig in and he is excited about the move as well. I will keep you all posted as the final sale approaches.
ONce again thanks for the knid words.
