Question:
I just wanted to urge everyone here to make a $ donation to red cross if you can, clear out your closets of old clothes or anything you have that you havent used or worn for more than a year. Please give them to the to what ever agency you can to help those people in MS, LA, and AL PLEASE HELP. I was in three hurricanes last year here in Orlando. I know more than anyone what that was like (it was possibly my PA trigger, that or a car accident) to be with out power in the heat of summer for more than a week. It was awful, If I stipped down to just shorts and opened all of the windows and lay on the tile floor in the kitchen with the breeze blowing just right, you would actually just be miserable. They are talking about months w/o power!!!!!!!!! All of us taking enbrel knows what that would also mean. These people need help badly. I am not a very religious person but throw in a few prayers as well.
Hi,
We were trying to give clothing away up here, but they said they couldn't take them, but needed cash donations. My daughters boyfriends daughter has decided to have a garage sale this weekend, with many things beside clothing too and will donate the cash to a charity.

I play in a blues band www.thehouserockers.net most of the members including our leader is from Miss. and has a brother east of New Orleans(yes i said east) Charlie gets a phone call during the height of the Storm and it's his brother he had evacuated his family but stayed behind to protect the house. This is the phone call And I quote " OH MY GOD!! I [messed] up! I shouldn't have stayed.... Its like a Freight train is going through the house and it's starting too.....click" That is the last that anyone has heard from him. Kind of brings it closer to home.
OMG!!! That is horrible. I have been praying for everyone affected by this monster. Tom, you and I went through 3 hurricanes last year and this is just so much worse than what we went through.

My sister and her boyfriend live in New Orleans. They were among the lucky ones that left before the hurricane, they (and their two BIG dogs!) drove about 20 hours Northwest, couldn't find a place to stay, slept in their car, and drove some more until they finally found a room for 2 nights. They showed up at my mothers house in North Carolina this morning. I haven't spoken to her yet, because they slept most of the day. My sister took one photo album, her jewelry, legal paperwork, and one change of clothes, as they thought they would be returning in a day or two. Now, they probably won't be able to go back (if there is anything to go back to!) for at least a month. They are both now homeless and jobless... I am just sick about this. I made a small donation today, as the agency I work for is doing a fund drive for the Red Cross.
p.s. Taking third dose (12.5) of MTX tomorrow night. Bloodwork came back fine (phew). I'm so stressed, my P is running rampant. I consider myself lucky, however, in comparison to those struck by this horrific tragedy...

I would like to apologize for the for the use of foul language in the last post. I was merely quoting what may well be the last words of a storm victim. It wont happen again.
Yes, Polly you are right we got it pretty good, with 3 three hurricanes in 6 weeks last year, but it is just nothing like this. Shoot, if all three had hit here at the same time it wouldn't be that bad. I just wish people would quit saying why isn't the government doing anything, when we had our storms and when I was doing work during Andrew. Help didn't get there for quite some time almost a week before the BIG effort got here. In Homestead the National Guard didn't get there for a week. I got to homestead 3 days after it hit. We went in Armed to the teeth and had to almost fight our way to the airbase. What was maybe a 30 minute ride from I-95 to the base entrance took us over 7 hours. That was just due to debris, hungry thirsty people hanging on the truck for help that we didn't have, and armed bands of looters. There wasn't the flooding you see in New Orleans so relief efforts are even more difficult. People watching the news just dont get the true magnatude of this and you won't even if you watch all of the news footage you still wouldn't get it unless you have really seen it. The images on the beaches from the storm shows maybe a mile or two maybe. this goes for several hundreds of miles and as far as the eye can see inland.
Tom,
You are so right. We didn't have the flooding and it still took days before we got help. We pretty much all pulled together to help each other. We were cutting the trees from the road ways ourselves. There was a big oak tree keeping us from getting in and out of our home. We live on a dead end street. We couldn't wait for anyone to come and cut it up. The whole neighbor helped do all the work. We had trouble finding ice. If someone found some we would get as much as we could and share with the neighbors.
I think the gov. is doing the best they can. The big problem is that the roads are washed out and they are having trouble figuring out how to get in there and get the people out. It is just so sad to watch.

I just wanted to forward this letter from the leader of the band I am in. If you want to help w/ the efforts. Please understand this is not a plug for my band its just an alternate way to help the Relief efforts, I am going to be playing in about 3 or 4 benefit shows in the next week sitting in with other bands.
Hi Everyone,
I am sending out a personal e-mail to everyone on all our mailing lists asking for help. As you all know our Country has been hit by one of the most horrific disasters in modern day history Hurricane Katrina. As most of you know the Mississippi, Louisiana, & Alabama coasts are no longer the same, the core of our Band hails from Mississippi and that's where our roots are including our Friends and Family. The stories we are hearing of the devastation of Mississippi are incredible but true, the city of New Orleans is no longer as we all new it, I am sure it will rise again but it will be a completely different place as they will have to rebuild almost the entire city from the ground up. New Orleans has always had a special place in my heart as it is where my wife and I spent our Honeymoon, where my parents first met, where we use to go partying on the weekends in college, my wife and I would always say it was our favorite city in the world and how much we missed it living in Florida. But the city we loved is no more and I'm asking for your help we are Donating 100% of the profits from the sale of our new CD "Trouble in The Southland" to the American Red Cross for disaster relief from Katrina! That means everything, we are even covering the costs of Manufacturing the CD's ourselves so ALL THE MONEY goes to the Red Cross 100% of our profit!! I know it might not seem like much but anything we can raise will surely help out! Please help if you can although it's a very small amount $10.99 we have teamed up with the largest independent CD distributor on the Internet CD BABY! They are grouping us with other artists so we can all contribute worldwide to the cause, if we all pull together we can raise some serious cash for the victims. So please click on this link http://cdbaby.com/cd/charlieo2 and order one today, if it shows Sold Out please go on the list to be notified when they are back in stock which shouldn't be long. Thanks in advance for your help as always Houserocker Friends are the BEST!
