Good hand lotion/moisterizer???
Question:

Hey everyone-
Does anyone know of a really good hand lotion/moisterizer? I'm afraid my hands are starting to feel dry again...and it has to happen right before the conference in Boston...*grumbles* I just hope that they don't start cracking and peeling on me, I *HATE* it when that happens! *whimpers* But anyway, so yeah...anyone have any suggestions on any really good moisterizers? I have the feeling that a question like this might've been posted before...I'm just too lazy tonight to go through the threads searching for it. :D Any advice/sugggestions would be awesome!
Thanks all!

Hi Erin,
The best moisturizer I've ever used in a prescription moisturizer called Lac-Hydrin. (Here's a link to some additional information: http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic2/amlac.htm.) (I understand that the generic version -- Lac-Lotion -- is just as good.) All other moisturizers pale in comparision in my opinion. It really is in a class by itself. The bad news is that it stings VERY badly if there are any cracks or open lesions. You therefore have to be extremely careful on how or when you use it. (I hardly ever use it for that reason.)
When it comes to over the counter mosturizers, I find that it helps to rotate brands and to use only those moisturizers that are labled "fragrance free", "for sensitive skin" and/or "non-irritating". My current favorites include Eucerin (the kind that comes in a pump bottle), Palmer's Shea Butter (it has a slight fragrance), Palmer's Cocoa Butter, Cetaphil, and just about anything made by Aveeno.
I also have psoriais on my hands. I find that it helps to moisturize them every time that I wash them. I also find that it helps to use only warm water and to avoid anti-bacterial soaps. (Anti-bacterial and/or deoderant soaps tend to dry out and irritate my psoriasis.) Here's a link to a previous discussion about psoriasis and soap (which will link you to yet another discussion on the subject): .
I hope this helps.

One thing a lot of us learned from MelisaaLynn was the best products to use because it's what they used on her during the Goekerman treatment. The moisurizer is called Vanicream and I think they also make soaps, sunscreen, and lip balm.
I was never able to find it in a store, but Krista found it and gave me a tube. The stuff is really really good, but hard to find.

I found several products by Vanicream at my local CVS just a few days ago -- which was really odd, I thought, 'cause I live in a small town. I wasn't 100% sure it was the stuff I'd remembered being recommended by ML, so I didn't purchase any ... but now I will!!
If you have trouble finding it on the shelf, here's a link that might be helpful:

I use Aquaphor Ointment. It's in a lot of stores. When my hands are really dry, I put it on fairly thick and then vinyl gloves. I don't need it on my fingers so I cut the finger part off the gloves and can go on doing things while moisturising. you can sleep with it on but I got tired of that.

I also use the aquaphor ointment. It's a little greasy when you first put it on. It keeps me moisturized all day. I use it all over my body. I have p head to toe.

Something that is very inexpensive and slathers on, soakes right in without feeling greasy is Jergens Ultra Healing Lotion. I'v'e used just about everything everybody has suggested and I keep going back to it. I just love the way it leaves my skin feeling. My Dr said it really doesn't matter what you use as long as "petrolatum" is among the first three ingredients on the lable.

I also like A & D ointment, than I put on gloves. I have used almost all the above and none worked for me...I actually spent hours in stores buying and reading,,,I don't like anything with alcohol, fragrance or Sodium Lauryl Sulfate so many things contain both ingredients ( SLS) IS KNOWN TO CAUSE CANCER!

I also like Coconut oil.It does not stay greasy.Creams do nothing for me,,,only ointments and oils.
Lottie,,,can you imagine one of the oldest lotions,,,JERGENS AND IT IS GOOD!
Burt's products are good also. Trust me my hands are very bad,,so I spend quite a bit of time trying things. I try not to use any reg. soaps I use all natural soaps.

I'm with Granny and PJ66-
When my hands were really bad, I would slather them with aquaphore at night and sleep with socks on my hands. Sounds silly, but it was soooo soothing and really worked well.
I hope you find something that does the trick!

Three cheers for the Aquaphor healing ointment... I think it's the best for hands and feet. Vanicream is good (and yes, hard to find), but sometimes nothing but the grease will do. I keep a large tube at the office (along with Lubriderm Skin Therapy in the pump for when I don't have cracks).
Good luck...

P.S. I bought the Vanicream at "My Pharmacy"

PS - if they do happen to crack  Krista turned me onto Neosporin with Pain Relief. Also does a great job.
