Done smoking
Question:

Well now I am close to officially passing the 48 hr. mark without a cig. I decided to quit due to the way you feel pretty much all the time.
So i went from 3 packs a day down to none. I am using nicorette gum to help with the withdrawl symptoms.

What a fun time these last 2 days have been, NOT!

I'm pulling for you, Shawn, It's a rough time, but if I can do it after 40+ years you can do it. Hang in there and when the craving gets bad take deep breaths and tell yourself you can get through it. I used the patches for a couple of weeks they really helped. Good Luck to you.

Hi Shawn, I'm so glad to hear you quit smoking. I quit smoking two months ago. I smoked two packs a day for 37 years. I wanted to quit and gave myself 4 weeks to quit. I mentally prepared myself by setting a quit date. I took Wellbutrin a week before I quit and actually took myself off of it after 3 weeks. Smoking is so much a mental addiction. I credit my success to wanting to quit and mentally preparing to quit. My oldest sister quit smoking a year ago, but it was the hardest thing she had to do because she didn't want to quit, she had to quit for her health. I never thought the day would come that I would ever quit because I enjoyed it so much but I decided that after 37 yrs. I had done enough damage. After just 2 day, I was amazed how much easier it was to take a deep breath. I wish you all the luck Shawn!

Dude,
It sure isn't easy!! Good for you. Now I don't have to give you my "sister lung cancer" story. Or did I already do that in NJ? Nevertheless, we are all wishing you well.

Great job! I also quit smoking 12/04. I must say. I didn't want to quit. I still, right now want to smoke. I made a pact with my husband, and decided to give it a try. Mostly cause I want to have kids. Maybe in the next year. It's mostly out of my mind, I mean the smoking. I think of other things I like to do in my spare time. And try to do them all the time. I must say the patch is a good option. It took 3 times falling off the wagon before I finally did it. But, I feel great. I hope you are still persuing quiting smoking. You really don't need them to be happy.

Wow 2 days and I still wanna smoke! Interesting I never would have guessed that LOL.
Thanks for the support everyone. It will be a rough few weeks but I figure if I can steer clear of bars and the like I should be ok.
Still wanting a smoke

Hey Shawn,
I'm proud of you, this is great. You might want to consider the patch, I know someone that is using the patch 3 weeks so far minimal if any cravings
congrats!

Shawn,
Hang tough. It's a rough ride but well worth the trip. When I quit, sometimes I would get tempted real bad and when that happened I had a little story I told myself to get myself to toughen up.
I used to picture a tobacco co. exec. or owner getting on his (non- smoking) private jet to vacation somewhere exotic, while I was sitting around coughing up a lung. My lousy habit was supporting their rich lifestyle. I was killing myself so they could be rich.Even now, when I think of it some 8 years later I still want to punch someone out (preferably a tobacco exec.)
When I used to think of that I got mad and I was able to channel that anger into something positive. A big part of that anger was also directed at myself for having been a willing accomplice in my own destruction.
It was one of the hardest things I've done and also one of the most worthwhile.

Shawn,
i wish you the best of luck in trying to quit..i hope that you reach your goal. my sister quit smoking cold turkey like 2 months ago. man..i was glad she was at college when she tried..well except winter break...but she was in a pretty bad mood most the time. i am happy to see more ppl are trying..i dont think it is very effective when ppl who smoke tell you not to smoke ya know?? i mean personallly i wont becuz i just dont belive in smoking...but i think that ppl are like..well you smoke..so i should too..but that is not rite..so i think if more ppl quit then in the future we will have more and more ppl quiting. i just want to say congagulations for trying to quite..i belive that you can do it! :) im gonna go now..places to be and things to do.

ps...hahha..my sister quite cuz someone told her they throw nucular waste on tobacco feilds in the USA...i thought that was kinda weird that, that was wat made her quite.

Oh, Shawn, you have my utmost admiration ... GOOD FOR YOU!!
I so want to quit ... I so NEED to quit ... I DID quit once, for 10 years, and like a bonehead started back up a few years ago (at a real "low point"). During that 10-yr cig-free period, I never once stopped wanting one, even though I felt amazingly better. Crazy!!
Sending lots of positive e-vibes your way and wishing you success!!
PS: Thanks for sharing -- it inspires me, and I'm sure other wanna-be quitters!! :)
