LEFTO vs. RIGHTO RESPONSES FROM THE PEANUT GALLERY
Question:

This sounds like fun guys....I can't wait for the priests marrying debate

Answers:

At this point I'm not so sure there will ever be a debate on that issue, Sally. I know how I feel about it, but Robi never mentioned if he is for it or against it.
If Robi doesn't respond within another day or two, I will start the debate off. Perhaps with a different issue. And then wait for Robi's response. Something that I have a pretty good idea that he will be against.
A strategy to close the gap between the rich and poor does seem to pretty heavy duty. I complain about the fact that the gap between rich and poor keeps growing, but I don't honestly know of a REALISTIC way to close it.
If Robi does, then I guess he won that round......
.....DING !!!

Priests marrying? Ok, but that would only work in a state that allows Gays to marry, otherwise, Priests can't marry. ;)
HEY, it was a JOKE!!! :D

On a vacation or something.
Or is the reason he has it in the first place is because 1. he earned it, and 2. he saved enough of it over time that he can now spend it.
Sometimes people make themselves poor or lets say less wealthy than they could be. I guess that is the liberty that we have in the US Jor-El.
I don't know, it just seems that the less the government is involved in my affairs the better off I am. Social Security????? give me a break. If you're depending on that you're already in the poor house. And then some people like not having a lot of money. They probably have more fun in life than the Rich. I've seen a lot of overworked and unhappy rich people in life. Life is life, rich or poor and you can't take it with you.
Jor-El, maybe you should ask God about this. He is offerring great riches to those who believe in him and offering hell as the reward for those who do not believe. And that is like for eternity, much more important than our fleeting years here on earth.

Yeah I'm loopy today. Not really I'm exhausted that's why I'm here on a computer instead of out taking on the world. :(

Here are a few things that I am AGAINST:
-The stupid BUSH crime syndicate
I'm against STUPID, insulting comments directed at the President. :D
-Handguns for the masses
Oh, I see, only the ELITE, UPPER class should have guns? How socialist of you. ;)
-Abortion becoming illegal again
I'm only against abortion being used as a form of birth control. Beyond that, I have no problem with it.
-Drilling and logging on national wildlife preserves
I'm against potential drilling and logging sites being turned into national wildlife preserves.
-The Patriot Act
I think the Patriot act needs some fine tuning.
-Electorial College
It worked for over 200 years. The 2000 election wasn't the first time that the majority popular vote winner lost. Without this system, we might as well let Kalifornia decide the elections, and the rest of us could just break off and form another country.
-Televised Presidential Debates
I would be against this, but until you can cram 300+ million people into one place, it's the only way all of us to have a chance to see it.
-Outsourcing of America's jobs overseas
No argument there.
-Bush's plan for Social Security reform
Since I don't know what all of his plan is, (since he hasn't revealed all of it) I have no comment.
-Pro-athelete's excessive salaries
Tell that to the Players' unions. Speaking of which, I'm against unions. ;)
-Florida
What about Ohio? They decided it this year.
-Golf courses
Golf courses???
-Platform shoes
Hey!! I had a pair, about 1974. Then I joined the Army. :D

Answer:
NO, of course not. Life is hard enough without treating your fellow man like that.
And I would pay for the loaf out of my own pocket.
Then I'd drive the person to the local soup kitchen so they could see to it that he/she got proper nourishment and further assistance (place to stay if the person had no home, etc...)

Answers:

If the owner of the 7-11 presses charges, you have to take him to jail, or at the minimum give him a ticket to appear in court.
Thats the way the law here works. Might not like it all the time but thats the way it is.
Possibly a solution to the poor person would be to ask for help or seek it out.
We see a lot of people down on our luck in our business. The funny thing is that when you tell them you can take them to the mission often they say no. The reason why? They want to drink and the mission won't let them.
Some people don't live by rules, what do you do with them? Some people are poor. Are they poor just because or are the poor because they didn't want to work and earn their own living?

Those are man made laws.
Let the heart go forward and live by one SPIRITUAL law:
Treat EVERYONE (emphasis on "EVERYONE") as you would want to be treated.
It doesn't mean we should "pick and choose" who we want to treat well. It means "EVERYONE." No matter what the consequences, no matter what their actions. If your mind is telling you that they're just bums and want to be the way they are and deserve their lot in life......I say, treat them well anyway.
When you do that, you will ALWAYS find that everything naturally and miraculouslky will work out for the best. Not always immediately, but in time it always will. Strange how it works, but it does.
It goes without saying that this is not always an easy thing to do. I fail most of the time.
To be a true Christian is a big stretch. Most can't handle it. That's why even many so-called Christians are for the Death Penalty. They can't get past that vengeance mentality and "an eye for an eye" philosophy.

It doesn't matter one tiny little bit. That same rule applies. Again, to practice that Golden Rule as a TRUE Christian, one should not pick and choose who they want to treat well.
We are all our brother's keeper.

Great spirtual message Jor-El, It is very hard to achieve the kindness that you are suggesting. It's hard for me to give money to people who are begging as a job and are not offering anything to society except negativity.
To ALowe,
I'm not so sure that the Elctoral college has worked since G.washington. Back room deals with the South helped not elect Tilden, changed reconstruction, broke the promisses to the blacks ( no 40 acres and a mule)
and what ever happened to the concept of one person one vote.
ALSO if you don't like bush jokes then don't laugh at California, (sure our goveners a joke ) but alot of us don't think he's too smart either...

You are absolutely correct. It is extremely hard to practice that rule on those who seem to be leeches on society.
That's what will separate an "arm chair" Christian from a true Christian.
Attending mass on Sunday is easy, forgiving someone who, for instance, stole something from you is a real "acid test" of spirituality.
Most of the time, I fail miserably at it.

I have nothing against Bush jokes. It's the insults I don't like.
Without the Electoral College, we could just leave the selection of the president up to New York and California. Then where would we be?
Not that it would always be one sided. But without the electoral college, the small states would really be left out. But what do I know. I couldn't understand how we could elect such a public adulterer as Bill Clinton, twice!
The Govenator may not be the best, but he certainly beats his predecessor.
It's always been one person, one vote...except in Chicago were even the dead get to vote. ;)

I used to feel sorry and give to the panhandlers. Then one day, in Denver, I saw a young guy standing on the corner holding his sign. The sign said,
"Why lie, I want a beer".
Since then, our hard earned money is more protected. I will gladly give to people whose home has burned, or the breadwinner gets sick. But no more beggars! There are lots of ways to help without giving to the "BUMS" that are too lazy to work. Stop and tell one you have some work that needs to be done and then you will give him some food. He will have an excuse not to do it!

I did too, until I saw a story on the local news that followed a panhandler who would stand near a busy intersection all day, collecting money. Then, after traffic died down, he'd walk 3 blocks to his nice, late model Cadillac, get in and drive home to his house in the suburbs, that was worth over $150k.
I was with my father-in-law one day, as we drove by a panhandler who had a sign, "Will work for food." My father-in-law owned his own business. He offered to pay the guy cash for cleaning up the office. The panhandler just looked at him dumbfounded and said, "Why don't you just give me some money like everyone else?" My father-in-law said "I thought so." and drove off.
Now, if I was a police officer today, and caught some guy stealing bread, I'd run him in. Then again, I've been a bit cynical today too.

I think every time I see a panhandler on a corner that "There but for the grace of God, Go I".
I used to wonder why on earth they didn't just go get a job until I found myself in dire straights. I'm a single woman. I had a good job and insurance benifits. I met My Partner, Joe, four years ago. We dated a while and after about a year decided to combine households. Shortly after that, I was Diagnosed with Leukemia. I filed for Family Medical Leave which extended my insurance for twelve weeks. Thank God I had Insurance, because my first months medical bills ran well over one hundred thousand dollars. When my Insurance ran out, I was forced to file for welfare to get medicaid. Welfare gave me a whopping big $339.00 a month and $47.00 worth of food stamps.
When I moved in with Joe, I never intended to be dependant on him. I've always carried my own weight. I had a brand new car I was paying for and a stack of credit card bills that I never dreamed I wouldn't be able to pay.
God gave me Joe because he Knew I was about to need this wonderful man who loves me, But What about those people who don't have anybody to help them? Could you live on under $400.00 a month?
They aren't all Bums. Some are just like you and me. Some are disabled and unable to work. I have Social Security Disability now, and Medicare with a medicaid supplimentation,Its a big help, But How could I survive by myself on $605.00 a month? That's what my income is. Could you do it?

There are many living right here in this "Land of Plenty" that are scrapping along on less than a dollar per day. And the numbers are growing. Most of this goes unreported by mainstream media.
