Question:
I have noticed a couple of us lurking!
I think we have special needs. I know I do. Just wanted to get us together so we could compare notes.
For me, with the PCOS, I already had fertility issues. I don't have any kids, but I want to be a mom someday.
Now, with all the added drama of P/PA and the drugs I take for that, I am constantly worried about what the future holds for me.
I just got AF today after 10 months without one-my longest stretch ever. I cannot take BCP any more because I got DX with Factor V leiden wich can cause blood clots.
I am a mess.
Any other cysters out there wanna contribute?
Hope to hear from you!
Hi Jessica, how are you
You will have to bear with me when you are using initials to explain things, we call them different things here (uk) so I may seem a bit slow on the uptake.
This is just a ruse, I am thick as a plank really.
I just got AF today after 10 months without one-my longest stretch ever. I cannot take BCP any more because I got DX with Factor V leiden wich can cause blood clots. this means nothing to me!!!!!!
I have been diagnosed with pcos for 2/3 years. I am not on Metformin yet I was put on Atkins until my weight comes down.... uk doc's believe in making you lose the weight which can clear up the pcos before they will give you any fertility treatment. Also my doc says that there are some very sickly side effects with Metformin, which I am due to go on in July if I have lost enough weight.
I didnt have any monthlies for absolutely ages and within 2 weeks of being on Atkins....kaboom we are in business...
My cousin has pcos and she is only 35 and has no kids but has just had to have a full hysterectomy.
I hope to speak to you soon.
Sorry :p !
I guess I assume (you knoww what That means) that everyone speaks that way online.
AF-Aunt Flow=My period
BCP-Birth Control Pills,(Orthos, Diane)
DX-Diagnosed (abbreviation in medical termionology that I used to work with, when I could work!)
HX-History (Same like above)
Factor V Leiden- Factor Five Leiden is a blood clotting disorder that is heriditary and can cause deep vein thrombosis, or blood clots in you legs. It can be aggravated by obesity and hormones in birth control
Unfortunatley for my, birth control, BCP, was the only way I would get my period, AF.
Sucks.
Hope that cleared it up for you.
My mom had PCOS. My oldest sister also does. My mom controled hers through diet, but not very well. She did manage to have 5 kids, including a set of twins, with no fertility drugs. But my sister is morbidly obese as am I. She is going to be 50 soon and has no kids. We both are postive for Factor V, but I alone have P/PA.
That is why I started the thread. I just hate being so darn "Unique"
Forgive my ignorance but could you explain what PCOS is I'm afraid I'm a bit thick?
sorry

You go Mike!
PCOS is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.
My favorite site is www.soulcysters.com
I also have a website about me and my struggles with it, listed in my signature line.
i dun have that. But I don't have a high fertility level either....but i also have a menstral disorder called dymenorrhea..i think it's spelt like that.
anyway, i'm young though...so i guess that idea doesn't bother me much.
Dysmenorrhea-is cramps. When you are told you have this, it usually means you have very painful periods. Is that what you mean?
I urge anyone who is "irregular" to get checked for PCOS. I thought for years that I was just one of those people who only got it a few times a year. And that it was okay to be like that. Wrong!
Now I know, and knowing is half the battle! (GI JOE!)
First I want to say thanks to Mike for jumping in with the links. "Thank's Mike" :D
I too have been Dx'd with PCOS, and currently I am on Metformin, and have been for almost a year. No results.
I see the Dr. monthly.
"AF" as you call it has been regular for at least the last 3-4 years. Before that I would go for 6-8 months without her visit. Not sure what changed, but the dreaded "monthly monster" stops in regularly now.
Oh....I'm almost 32, P/PA/Fibro. I have been married 11 years, no children.
I for one like being UNIQUE, but this is far from fun.....
wow, those websites taught me a lot. I think I will go ask a doctor to try and test me for this syndrome.
Ever since my senior year in high school, when my period disappeared for 9 months, it's become more and more irregular since then...My longest stretch with out one, was 2 years which just ended this past december...
Not to be graphic or anything, but I have been noticing an increase in hair growth on my face...
Thanks for this information. I will go and get this checked out.

hum, mine are more than painful...oh well...dun care. My family leads in getting the wrong diagnosis. Took my aunt months and tons of doctors saying nothing is wrong until someone goes "oh! you have a rare diabetic foot disease where your bones are breaking apart." Or something. I Spent years being told it's all in my head or they thought I was hypothyriod...even though mine was fine.
As long as i'm not suffering, I'm fine, i guess. Not moving, being sick, and all the other things were pretty bad from the diseases i have.
so what exactly is PCOS??
Bren from what i understand PCOS stands for Poly Cyctic Ovarian Syndrome.... I believe its when you develop cysts on the ovaries and eggs arent able to drop normally..... Someone will come along im sure to give you a better description....
