film review, the passion
Question:

Well this is a little late maybe but it just came out for home use. DW bought the dvd and I watched it last night.
The part of it that is relevant here that I noticed was the part where jesus healed the disciples ear by just putting it back on with his hand.
I wonder if jesus healed anyone with P during his time on earth.
Wouldn't it be nice if Jesus could come back and just touch our skin and heal it.

Some Bible scholars believe that leprosy (as described in the Bible) is not the leprosy that we know today (Hansen's Disease). In fact, some say that leprosy in the Bible may be referring to psoriasis.
When the English word, "leprosy," is used, the reference is to Hansen's Disease. However, the disease described in the text is not Hansen's Disease. G.J. Wenham in "The Book of Leviticus" (a part of "The New International commentary on the Old Testament" series, p. 195) offers four reasons: (1) there is no evidence that Hansen's Disease was noticable at this time in Israel's history, (2) the mentioned symptoms are not those of Hansen's Disease, (3) the areas insentitive to pain, the degeneration of the fingers and toes, and the facial nodules of Hansen's Disease are not mentioned, and (4) the English translation of the Hebrew word as "leprosy" is incorrect.
Concerning the final reason, the Greek translation of the Hebrew is lepra. However, elephantiasis is the Greek word for leprosy, not lepra. Since the English word, "leprosy," looks a little like the Greek word, lepra, some translations make the connection. They are wrong.
It is more probable that the skin diseases are Psoriasis, Favus, and Leucoderma or Vitiligo.
So, the Bible records that Jesus healed the lepers. I still believe that He can today, too - either miraculously or through science. :D :D

hi
i don't have much knowledge of bible .
but , i always heard that hansen disease ('lepra') . was and it is highlycontagious .
so contagious that people were highly discriminated . they had to live inside
caves , isolated, and never be next to others . it was a repulsive plague at that time, that Jesus healed those people to save them from the pain . it was a way to show how miraculous he was .
until today , Jesus still puts his hands on those that have high level of faith.
very high level . because it happens to few ones.
i don't doubt it .
take care
